Police order arrest of fake coronavirus taskforce in Anambra
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang, has ordered the arrest of illegal task force teams claiming to be enforcing COVID-19 measures including wearing of face masks in the state. Abang, in a statement issued to newsmen, in Awka, on Saturday, by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, said the Command would arrest and prosecute those found extorting money or intimidating members of the public in the guise of enforcing face mask protocols. Court adjourns suit challenging Akindele, others’ conviction
Reuters A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday adjourned until July 21, to hear a suit challenging the legality of the conviction of Funke Akindele, her husband, Abdu-rasheed Bello, and 236 others. A Lagos-based Lawyer, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, had approached the court seeking a declaration that the law upon which Akindele and others were convicted was inconsistent with the 1999 constitution. Recall that Akindele, a popular actress; Bello, and others were arrested, tried and convicted for violating the Lagos State Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulations 2020. FRSC alerts motorists on imminent diversion on Lagos 3rd mainland bridge
The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, says diversion and safety precaution are imminent, owing to the emergency rehabilitation on the third mainland bridge in Lagos. In a statement issued by the FRSC Public Education Officer (CPEO), Mr Bisi Kazeem, on Wednesday in Abuja, Oyeyemi said that the bridge would be partially closed for three months for the first phase of the job. Newsmen report that the Federal Government had announced plans to shut down the third mainland bridge for maintenance work from July 24 to Jan. 24, 2021. The first phase of the project covers the rehabilitation of the Oworonshoki bound lanes. Police nab eight suspects for rape, sodomy in Kebbi
The Police Command in Kebbi has arrested seven suspected rapists and one for sodomy in the state. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Agunbiade Oluyemi-Lasore, made this known while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday. Oluyemi-Lasore, said that the arrests were made from May to June, adding that the period under review was challenging and eventful for the command. The police Commissioner said that in spite of the daunting challenges, the command was able to crack most of criminal syndicates terrorising the state and made quite a number of arrests. Man sentenced to death by hanging for murder
File Photo An Osun State High Court sitting in Ile Ife has sentenced a 37-years old man, Oluleke Ogunyemi to death by hanging for alleged murder. Ogunyemi was said to have killed one Moshood Babalola on 17th of February 2010 at about 10am at a village called Agbedegbede in Ile Ife, Osun State. Ogunyemi was arraigned on 6th March, 2013 on two counts charge murder and conspiracy to murder an ofgence contrary to section 319 and 324 criminal Code Laws cap 34, Laws of Osun State. Ogun police framed us as land-grabbers – community leader
The Akinrogun of Meiran land, Chief Joseph Ayodele, whom the Ogun State Police Command claimed to be the leader of a land-grabbing gang, has refuted the claim. Newsmen had reported that Rufai Abdulkareem, Tobi Ajayi and Wasiu Oladipupo were arrested by the police for allegedly shooting at seven workers on a construction site in the state. Ondo doctors withdraw services from infectious disease centre
The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) in Ondo State has directed its members to withdraw their services from the state’s Infectious Disease Centre with immediate effect. The association said the directive became imperative due to government’s failure to meet their demands. The union had last month withdrawn the services of its members working in the employ of the state government following government failure to accede to their demands. Family members of a missing 22-year-old man, Arinze Obiukwu, are asking the Rivers State Police Command to put pressure on a local vigilance group popularly known as OSPAC in Elele Ikwerre Local Government Area to produce him dead or alive. Police arrest 46 ‘criminals’, recover N1.5m in Nasarawa
The Nigerian Police Nasarawa State Command has arrested 46 suspected criminals and recovered 1.5 million naira from its operations recently.
