Hipgnosis Songs Funds improved its gross revenue for the six months ended Sept. 30 by 35% year-on-year to $85.3 million, primarily due to the revenue from eight catalogs with 1,315 songs acquired in the previous six months, the company announced Thursday (Dec. 16) in its bi-annual report to investors. Net revenue—gross revenue minus royalties paid to songwriters under contract and administered catalogs—grew 31% $74.1 million during the same period. Three months after announcing his departure from the U.K. label, Cockle is today (Aug. 8) unveiled as president of Hipgnosis Songs. Also joining the company is Amy Thomson, a management and marketing veteran who takes the role as chief catalog officer. Merck Mercuriadis’ Hipgnosis Songs continues its spending spree with the acquisition of Blondie’s catalog. In a statement issued Wednesday morning (Aug. 5) to the London Stock Exchange, Hipgnosis and its investment adviser The Family announced a deal to buy 100% of Debbie Harry and Chris Stein’s writer’s share and neighboring rights (Sound Exchange) royalties in their Blondie catalogs, tallying 197 songs.
