It seems Rezz was all but able to relax this year. The Canadian electronic music superstar recently appeared as a guest on KITTENS’ podcast, “She/Her/They,” to open up about the adversity that came with a grueling touring schedule, among other topics. She’s typically not one to appear on podcasts or do video interviews, let alone speak so intimately about her own personal mental and physical health, touring and finding healthy love. Rezz begins talking about her struggle with her mental health right before the “Spiral” tour, the biggest and most expensive headlining tour of her career. Opiuo Opens Up About Burnout: “It Cannot Be Ignored, and a Balance Has to Be Found”

Electronic music star Opiuo has opened up about his experiences with burnout as a touring artist. The electronic music virtuoso star, who recently released his fifth studio album, A Shape of Sound, penned a heartfelt letter to his fans, detailing his personal struggles and reflections from life on the road in 2022. It sheds light on the bleak realities of the live music landscape, where many artists are scared to talk about exhaustion for fear of scrutiny since their work is considered a “dream job” by others. Opiuo begins by praising his fans in the United States in particular, who he said are “consistently the most kind, colourful, genuine humans out.” But having been touring around the world for over a decade, he isn’t safe from battling the hardships that come with the...

Bloom Vol. 28: More Than One

Two people stood facing one another. Longingly, they gazed into one another’s eyes. Between them was a hammock – radiant in its red, purple, and orange hues, tinged with the sun’s warmth and the remnants of their bodies and embrace. Falling into love, they would rock back and forth, comfortable and safe. They wove the hammock together – made by a snapshot of similarities. They tightened the fabric until it could hold their weight, solidifying a bond. The thread was trust, needle action. As the days go on, months, the two begin to see their differences. One enjoys drifting, foraging, hunting, and roaming the fields alone for hours and even days on end, but the other does not. As they began to explore themselves and the world around them as individuals, they made a pact to never stray from o...

Pardyalone is Building a Mental Health Community Around His Music

For Pardyalone (born Kalvin Beal in Eden Prarie, Minnesota), music is a form of expression to work through struggles with depression, anxiety, and the gamut of negative emotions that plague so many people in our ever-chaotic world. He’s participated in other solitary endeavors, like skateboarding and creative writing — or any other outlet that didn’t involve the self-described quiet kid speaking up at school or to his parents, friends or a therapist about his problems. But all of the resources Pardy would use to work through these down periods were for him and him only. With his music career, the production and behind-the-scenes work were certainly solitary tasks. As soon as he uploaded his first song, “No More,” on Spotify, he discovered a group of people to share these feelings and emoti...

REECE Found His Voice in Supporting Others

REECE’s style of self-described “kitchen sink pop” comes into full focus on his new project, It Boy, which moves from acoustic-rap head-nodders to two-step inspired dance workouts. With inspirations ranging from Lady Gaga to Frank Ocean to FKA Twigs, REECE’s music sprawls towards each of these influences with its own unique spin. His knack for melodies is immediately apparent, but the subtle nuances of experimental flexes reveal themselves with repeat listens. While the arrangements and melodic flourishes give the album unpredictability, REECE decided to hone in on a few specific themes with his lyrics. Born out of the pandemic, the album obviously grapples with what so many have experienced — but on It Boy, REECE gets extremely vulnerable in examining what happiness means and why he’s so ...
