106 Musicians Predict the 2022 Baseball Season

The powers-that-be did their best to prevent this year’s Major League Baseball season from happening, but, alas, we’re back. By we, I mean the annual SPIN baseball preview. As usual, everyone (or almost everyone) is optimistic about their team’s chances in 2022. In 2021, a good chunk of the season was played with minimal fans in attendance, but things should be mostly back to normal this year. As I said last year about the season: Will it be weird? Probably. But aren’t they all? If it wasn’t a weird season with bizarre injuries, what kind of season would it be? Not baseball, Suzyn. Somehow, we almost doubled the number of participants from 62 to 105. Maybe we go for a cool 162 next year? If nothing else, we know that musicians love America’s Pastime (even if many feel that it doesn’t love ...

5 Albums I Can’t Live Without: Buzz Osborne

Name King Buzzo/Melvins Best known for Music to some degree. Most of the world has no clue who I am at all and they’d most likely be turned off by what I do anyway. I can’t worry about that. I’ve played in a band called the Melvins for the better part of 40 years. Current city Los Angeles. It’s like living in a lot of different cities actually. I enjoy the enormity and anonymity. Really want to be in Los Angeles with nobody there except me and a load of weird anti-science zombies who want to kill me. I’d be on the freeway most of the time going 110 mph in whatever kind of car I wanted and if the zombies fucked with me I’d do my best to execute them all. Just watch the movie The Omega Man. That’s my dream… Except I don’t die at the end. Ha! Excited about We have a n...

41 Artists Reflect on Nirvana’s Nevermind Turning 30

The world changed 30 years ago today. Though it took a few months before the proverbial train left the station, the rumblings from the underground completely blew up when college rock and punk blended to form alternative rock, with Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl serving as the conductors. Nevermind’s legacy is firmly and safely entrenched in music history. It’s been discussed so many times before, but here’s the CliffsNotes version. All of these years later — even though Nirvana burned out instead of fading away — Nevermind continues to resonate. Cobain’s powerful lyrics are still influencing people of all generations (maybe not Boomers, but Gen X and beyond) and their musical tastes. It still serves as the gateway to rock for countless fans. When SPIN spoke with Nov...

Melvins’ Buzz Osbourne Recalls the Night Kurt Cobain Went to Jail for Vandalism

Before Kurt Cobain became a household name thanks to Nirvana, he was a teenage prankster in his hometown of Aberdeen, Washington. (Stars, they’re just like us?) Melvins frontman Buzz Osbourne remembers the night in May 1986 that he and pal Cobain, 19, “were out spray painting graffiti all over town” — antics that eventually landed one of them in jail. Telling the tale during Melvins’ Divine Monkeyshines: Valentine’s Day Special streaming event according to Ultimate Classic Rock, Osborne recalls Cobain getting busted and going to jail, while Osborne and their other compadre, former Melvins drummer Matt Dillard, got away. “We walked around the corner of this bank and all of a sudden there’s cops, a bunch of cops everywhere,” Osborne remembered. “And we just take off running in...
