Mutant Ape Planet creator arrested in NY for alleged $2.9M NFT ‘fraud’

The developer of a Mutant Ape Yacht Club knock-off collection — Mutant Ape Planet — has been arrested in New York, charged with allegedly “defrauding” investors of $2.9 million in a “rug pull scheme.” The arrest took place on Jan. 4 at the John F. International Airport in New York, with homeland security agent Ivan J. Global confectionery giant Mars has teamed up with virtual metaverse band KINGSHIP to create limited edition boxes of M&M’s featuring content from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). KINGSHIP is a group made up of three BAYC NFT hodlers and one Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) owner. As part of the deal, the avatars depicted in the nonfungible token (NFT) art will be printed on the chocolate candies in a select number of boxes. There has been a total of 4,000 boxes created in total, split between two tiers of rarity. NFT markets slump as weekly sales volume dives 30%

The nonfungible token (NFT) collections by Yuga Labs have experienced a dramatic downturn in transaction volume over the past 24 hours.  Otherdeed is down just over 50%, Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) is down 46%, and Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is down 25% according to data from NFT market tracker NFTGO. Over the past 24 hours, general NFT market activity has mirrored Yuga’s collections, where volume has dropped 31% to $113 million.
