Colin Farrell’s The Penguin Spin-Off Gets Greenlight from HBO Max

Matt Reeves’ iteration of Batman might’ve just flown into theaters, but the director already has another DC project up his sleeve: HBO Max has officially ordered a spin-off series centered on The Penguin, which will see Colin Farrell reprise his role as the criminal mastermind. Just as The Batman offers a thrilling origin story for Bruce Wayne, this forthcoming limited drama series — currently under the working title The Penguin — will provide detailed context about how Oswald Cobblepot rose to power in Gotham City. Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will write the script, with Reeves and The Batman producer Dylan Clark serving as executive producers alongside Farrell. “The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of O...

The Batman Director Elaborates on Kurt Cobain Inspiration: “His Drug Is… Revenge”

Matt Reeves, director of Warner Bros.’s The Batman, recently revealed that his version of Bruce Wayne draws inspiration from Kurt Cobain. In a new interview with Esquire, Reeves discussed the similarities between the Nirvana frontman and Gotham vigilante, explaining that they’re both addicts. “Early on, when I was writing, I started listening to Nirvana, and there was something about [Nevermind song] ‘Something in the Way,’ which is in the first trailer, which is part of the voice of that character,” Reeves explained. “When I considered, ‘How do you do Bruce Wayne in a way that hasn’t been seen before?’ I started thinking, ‘What if some tragedy happened [ie: Wayne sees his parents murdered] and this guy becomes so reclusive, we don’t know what he’s doing? Is this guy some kind of wayward, ...

Holy Bat-Marathon! Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Is Longest Batman Film Ever

Pack an extra Bat-Bladder for this one: Robert Pattinson’s The Batman is the longest film ever to star the Caped Crusader, with a run time stretching out to two hours and 55 minutes including credits. Not only is this Dark Knight also the longest knight, it instantly becomes one of the lengthiest superhero movies in the history of the genre, slotting in just behind the three hour, one minute Avengers: Endgame. Director Matt Reeves‘ new take on Bruce Wayne’s second job has been given a PG-13 rating, dashing the hopes of thousands of Pattinson stans hoping for a glimpse at the Bat-Penis. Zoë Kravitz stars as Catwoman, and she promised extra-realistic combat after training with videos of catfights. As for the villains, Colin Farrell is unrecognizable in prosthetics as the ...

The Batman Gets a PG-13 Rating Despite Dark Undertones

Despite Robert Pattinson’s bone-chilling stare and Gotham City’s perennially dark atmosphere, don’t expect the forthcoming Batman adaptation to get too NSFW. Matt Reeves’ The Batman has earned a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association after predictions that it would end up rated R. Variety points out the MPA rated The Batman PG-13 for “strong violent and disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material.” Sources close to the film say that its foul language is minimal, and the violent scenes tend to focus more on things like car crashes and explosions. Speculation that The Batman would be rated R was largely based around Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich’s vision to further distinguish DC films from Disney’s Marvel franchise, whic...

Warner Bros. Reveals Closer Look at The Riddler and Penguin From The Batman

Superhero flicks are notoriously shrouded in mystery prior to release, but as Matt Reeves’ The Batman approaches its March 4th premiere, more details about the film have begun to emerge. Over the weekend, Warner Bros. shared new photos from the film, including closer looks at two of Batman’s biggest foes, Paul Dano’s Riddler and Colin Farrell’s Penguin. Dano’s Riddler gives off a Zodiac-killer vibe in this Batman adaptation, dressed head to toe in army green and covered up with a terrifying mask Penguin, meanwhile, maintains his classic purple suit. Other new photos show the villains in action, as the maniacal Riddler wields some duct tape and the Gentleman of Crime consults his paperwork. It’s not a lot to go on, but it’s still fun to see. Robert Pattinson’s Batman Was Inspired by Kurt Cobain

Robert Pattinson’s upcoming version of Bruce Wayne was inspired by Kurt Cobain, according The Batman writer and director Matt Reeves. “When I write, I listen to music, and as I was writing the first act, I put on Nirvana’s ‘Something In The Way,’” Reeves explained in a new interview with Empire. “That’s when it came to me that, rather than make Bruce Wayne the playboy version we’ve seen before, there’s another version who had gone through a great tragedy and become a recluse. So I started making this connection to Gus Van Sant’s [2005 film] Last Days, and the idea of this fictionalized version of Kurt Cobain being in this kind of decaying manor.” Reeves said he was convinced Pattinson was perfect for the part after seeing his performance in Good Time. “In that movie you could really ...

The Batman Faces The Riddler in New Trailer for Robert Pattinson’s DC Movie: Watch

It’s been over a year since we got the first trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Robert Pattinson’s debut as the Dark Knight was originally targeting an October 1st, 2021 debut, but following the star catching COVID-19 last September and the industry’s slow return in the midst of the pandemic, it was shoved back to March 4th, 2022. As the new date approaches, Warner Bros. has finally unleashed another new look at the film, debuting a fresh trailer during the DC FanDome event. The clip finds Pattinson’s Batman squaring off with Paul Dano’s The Riddler — a far darker take on the classic villain than, say, Jim Carrey’s version from 1995’s Batman Forever. In fact, Bats himself seems grittier in response, as Pattinson’s hero is clearly dealing with some aggressive anger. In addition ...
