If you’ve never heard Marshmello speak, now’s your chance to hear the man behind the helmet. Despite the fact that his identity was confirmed years ago, Mello—for some reason—continues to operate under the guise of an anonymous DJ. Ergo, he rarely gives interviews and when he does, he usually remains silent and simply nods or shakes his head to communicate. That brings us to today, when Pandora launched its newest flagship dance music station MIXR. On the same day Marshmello unveiled his long-awaited Shockwave album, Pandora invited him to kick off their new platform by taking over its “The Main Stage” channel. Pandora Mello’s MIXR takeover finds him breaking down his new 12-track album—which features massive collaborations with the likes o...
After months of teasing, Marshmello has finally released Shockwave, a 12-track masterstroke channeling the producer’s long-lost electronic roots. The record kicks off with the spellbinding “Fairytale,” a brooding beat that eventually culminates in a thick melodic trap drop with booming hip-hop 808s. The tongue-in-cheek “Supernovacane” follows, in which the polarizing producer tips his helmet to his haters with a flippant vocal intro. “Marshmello is the most overrated electronic music artist by the way, ever to exist, of all-time,” whines an uncredited blowhard. “It’s so mediocre. To have it become so popular makes no sense.” One of the album’s most anticipated cuts, “Jiggle It,” delivers thank...
After the release of Marshmello‘s latest single, it’s safe to say his return to EDM is official. Mello, whose affinity for pop and hip-hop in recent years has been a topic of consternation among his fanbase, has teamed up with Subtronics for a dubstep smash called “House Party.” The track arrives one day ahead of the masked dance music superstar’s new album Shockwave. Fans will be thrilled to hear a signature Subtronics banger, rife with the idiosyncratic yet heavy-hitting sound design that has propelled him to become one of dubstep’s most revered artists. Serenaded by a party-starting spoken word verse, “House Party” features three massive drops, each of which rumble with quirky synths that slither through thunderous subs. Tak...
Marshmello is set to send shockwaves through the dance music scene. You’ll get that pun in a moment. After months of teasing, Mello’s fourth studio album seems to be on the way after a serendipitous Apple Music leak revealed its title, release date, and tracklist. The record, called Shockwave, will hit streaming platforms this Friday, June 11th. Screenshot of Marshmello’s “Shockwave” pre-release page on Apple Music. [Screenshot by EDM.com] Apple Music The official Apple Music pre-release page indicates that Shockwave will feature a slew of high-profile collaborators across its 12 tracks, such as TroyBoi, Juicy J, Nitti Gritti, Megan Thee Stallion, and DJ Sliink, among others. It’s shaping up to be another meteoric month for Marshmello after the masked producer dropped his second high-profile collaborative track in less than a week. Following up on “Hitta” alongside Eptic and Juicy J, Mello has now joined forces with Nitti Gritti and Megan Thee Stallion for a club-ready collaboration called “Bad Bitches,” which will appear on his upcoming Shockwave LP. Seeing these three artists in the title, we didn’t necessarily expect house to be the genre of choice, but Marshmello is is known to keep his fans on their toes. Similar to his production efforts on the ferocious “Hitta,” his latest single harkens back to the superstar producer’s dance music roots, albeit in a much different capacity. The t...
Marshmello, Eptic, and Juicy J have joined forces for a monster collaboration called “Hitta.” While “Hitta” doesn’t quite represent a return to form for Marshmello, whose saccharine, fan-favorite future bass beats have taken a backseat to dance-pop and mainstream hip-hop, it’s an unmistakable return to his EDM roots. The track finds Marshemello tapping one of the electronic scene’s most revered sound designers, Eptic, for a hip-hop and bass music hybrid that doubles as an all-out assault on the senses. “Hitta” foams at the mouth with trap ferocity, highlighted by the bombastic dirty south flows of Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J, who spits furiously over thunderous 808s in the verses. Stentorian brass shots and frenetic sta...
Following the announcement of Lollapalooza‘s full lineup two weeks ago, organizers have released the daily schedule breakdown for the upcoming four-day event. As in prior years, electronic artists have nabbed two of the top headlining slots. This year ILLENIUM and Marshmello will fill those roles on Thursday and Friday, respectively. Meanwhile, fans of the festival’s dedicated electronic outfit, Perry’s Stage, will have no trouble staying busy. Thursday features notable sets from Kaytranada, Steve Aoki, and Tchami while Friday belongs to the bassheads, boasting performances from Wooli, Subtronics, Riot Ten, and more. Saturday finds a balance with Oliver Heldens, SLANDER, and Lost Kings dotting the lineup while Sunday holds some of the festival’s...
In a new interview with GQ, Marshmello got candid about his prior online feuds with deadmau5, appearing to extend an olive branch in an effort to squash their beef. The feud goes way back to 2016. In the early days of his career, Mello was famously known for the not-so-subtle “inclusion” of deadmau5 in his music videos. That included a pet mouse named Joel in his “Alone” music video as well as a mau5head-donning character in his video for “Ritual.” The trolling certainly succeeded in catching deadmau5’s attention, although he wasn’t having any of it. Marshmello became the subject of more than one Twitter rant from the legendary “Strobe” producer, who at one point even outed Marshmello’s real name, which was s...
In an unlikely collision of dance music talent, Marshmello and Carnage have joined forces for a new single called “Back In Time.” “Back In Time” is an interesting departure for both artists, who have been known in recent years to keep fans on their toes in terms of genre. Influenced by late-80s Eurodance music, the song attempts to harken back to the rave scene of the era by interpolating old-school synths with a pulsing bassline. The track—which EDM Twitter will undoubtedly have a field day with—has a saccharine hyperpop feel that slides naturally into the electronic corner of Mello’s catalog, making it somewhat of an outlier due to his affinity for hip-hop as of late. No word yet whether or not “Back In Time” wi...
As North American music festivals return at a dizzying pace, Toronto’s Veld Music Festival has sadly met a different fate. Organizers today announced that the 2021 edition of Veld has been moved to 2022, citing the uncertainty of the pandemic. The silver lining for fans, however, is the fact that EDM superstars Martin Garrix and Marshmello have been confirmed as headliners for the new dates. “Due to continuing COVID-19 restrictions and our commitment to the safety of our fans and staff, Veld Music Festival will be postponed until 2022,” reads the statement before announcing the event’s headliners. Veld Music Festival (via Twitter) CTV Toronto reports that over 65% of Toronto residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of May 2...
Earlier in the week, Marshmello took to Twitter to tease fans with the prospect of new music on the horizon. With very short notice, the masked producer went on to announce that his latest song would soon drop before revealing hours later that it would be titled “Leave Before You Love Me”—and it’s with Disney stars-turned internationally successful pop group, Jonas Brothers. They’ve now unveiled the song, which arrived today by way of Mello’s Joytime Collective. You can listen to the honeyed pop tune below. “Leave Before You Love Me” will also be making its television debut this weekend, just two days after its release. On Sunday the pop trio will take the stage at the Billboard Music Awards for a closing performance featuring many of their cl...
