Terra (LUNA), an open-source stablecoin network, hit an all-time high of $20.05 billion in total value locked, or TVL, across its 13 product offerings, according to industry data. On Dec. 1, Terra’s TVL was at $11.9 billion, signifying a 68% increase in less than a month. This means that the platform’s users are investing in large quantities into the protocol to receive staking rewards.  The price of LUNA, Terra’s native token, is also steadily trending upwards, trading above $94 with a 31% increase in one week, according to Cointelegraph Markets Pro. The coin now has a total market capitalization of $34.8 billion, placing it in the top 10 crypto projects. LUNA continues to be one of crypto’s hottest performers. Price analysis 12/22: BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL, ADA, XRP, LUNA, AVAX, DOT, DOGE

Bitcoin (BTC) is attempting to break above the psychologically critical level at $50,000 and close the year on a strong note. The up-move in Bitcoin has led to a sharp recovery in the value of the Crypto Fear & Greed Index from 27 to 45 within a day, signaling improving sentiment. BlockFi co-founder Flori Marquez said in a recent interview that new talent, regulatory clarity and higher crypto prices could lead to a feeling of FOMO, boosting crypto adoption in 2022. Marquez added that the “majority of Blockfi’s clients—when they receive a BTC reward, they’re not selling that for cash.” Daily cryptocurrency market performance. Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs catch up to CryptoPunks, flips floor price

The price of the cheapest Bored Ape NFT for sale is now 53.9 Ether (ETH), or $215,067, while the minimum asking price for a CryptoPunk is 52.69 ETH, which is currently worth $210,239, according to OpenSea. All month long, there has been speculation about the possibility of Bored Ape flipping CryptoPunks in terms of NFT floor price. Earlier this week, Cointelegraph did a deep dive into the potential factors that could affect the value of one collection over the other. Whether owners had a preference for intellectual property rights or over certain partnerships and collaborations, the driving force behind any NFT project, “blue chip” or not, is its community. It is important to keep in mind a few notable differences between the two collections. Larva Labs, the team behind CryptoPunks, w...

Price analysis 12/20: BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL, ADA, XRP, LUNA, AVAX, DOT, DOGE

Bitcoin (BTC) continues to lose ground in December, a signal that traders may be locking in their gains before the end of the year. The lack of a Santa rally in the U.S. equity markets indicates that the risk-off sentiment prevails due to the uncertainty regarding the spread of the COVID-19 omicron variant in several parts of the world. Even after the sharp drop in Bitcoin’s price, the demand from institutional investors remains tepid, and data shows that the largest institutional Bitcoin product, the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), is trading at a discount of more than 20%. Crypto regulation is coming, but Bitcoin traders are still buying the dip

Looking at the Bitcoin chart from a weekly or daily perspective presents a bearish outlook and it’s clear that (BTC) price has been consistently making lower lows since hitting an all-time high at $69,000. Bitcoin/USD on FTX. Source: TradingView Curiously, the Nov. 10 price peak happened right as the United States announced that inflation has hit a 30-year high, but, the mood quickly reversed after fears related to China-based real estate developer Evergrande defaulting on its loans. This appears to have impacted the broader market structure. Traders are still afraid of stablecoin regulation This initial corrective phase was quickly followed by relentless pressure from regulators and policy makers on stablecoin issuers. First came VanEck’s spot Bitcoin ETF rejection by the U.S....

Here’s why Ethereum traders could care less about ETH’s current weakness

Since hitting an all-time high at $4,870 on Nov. 10, Ether (ETH) price has been posting lower lows over the past 50 days. If this downtrend continues, the lower trendline support suggests that the altcoin will bottom at $3,600. Still, derivatives data is signaling that pro traders are not concerned about the seemingly bearish market structure. Ether/USD price on FTX. In a press conference on Dec. 17, Russia’s Central Bank governor, Elvira Nabiullina, stated that banning crypto in the country is “quite doable.” Nabiullina cited crypto’s frequent use for illegal operations and significant risks for retail inve...

Traders delay $100K Bitcoin prediction, but still expect a blow-off top in 2022

Bullish traders that drank the “Bitcoin to $100,000 by year-end” Kool-Aid are now coming to terms with the fact that there may be no Santa Claus rally to wrap up 2021. At the moment, the pipe dream has morphed into simple hopes that the top cryptocurrency can at least finish the year above $50,000.  Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that the bounce in price seen in BTC following remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has pretty much evaporated and over the past 48-hours the price has swept fresh lows at $45,500 and from the look of things, the price could drop even further. A tale of two NFTs: Could Bored Ape Yacht Club flip CryptoPunks?

Rising from its modest minting price of 0.08 Ether (ETH), Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) has climbed to nonfungible-token (NFT) stardom, competing with one of the earliest examples of Larva Labs CryptoPunk NFT.  Given its steady but amplified growth, BAYC has many crypto natives speculating that its collection will eventually “flip” CryptoPunks, and there are several reasons to back it. Tip-toeing around which collection is the top NFT contender, the competition between these two collections is driven by several factors. With an existing divide between mainstream media adoption and the IP rights granted to its owners, the BAYC and CryptoPunks collection also have a disparate amount of unique holders. This is important because the amount of unique holders is often indicative of a wider sp...

YFI, HXRO and AR post gains even as Bitcoin price dips to $45.5K

Bitcoin (BTC) bulls took another beating on Dec. 17 as a midday onslaught dropped the price to $45,500. The price did manage a quick bounce back to $47,000 but sweeping a new daily low could be a sign that additional downside is in store. Amid the wider market downturn, several altcoins provided weary traders with a source of refuge as token buybacks and increased network activity helped bolster their prices and provide shelter from the storm. Altcoin Roundup: Three smart contract platforms that could see deeper adoption in 2022

Decentralized finance (DeFi) dominated media headlines throughout 2021 and the sector, along with nonfungible tokens (NFTs), helped to initiate the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies. While high yields on staking and instant profits from flipping jpegs have proven to be very lucrative for investors, it’s important to remember that none of it would have been possible without the underlying capabilities of smart contract technology.  The Ethereum network remains, hands-down, the most widely used layer-one smart contract platform in the crypto ecosystem, but everyone knows about the high fee and clogged network issues of the past few years. In 2021, competing networks like Avalanche and Binance Smart Chain enabled compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and this produced pos...

YFI price gains 46% in just four days after Yearn Finance’s $7.5M buyback

Yearn Finance (YFI) emerged as one of the best performers in the crypto market this week, rallying by over 46% in just four days to reach a two-week high above $29,100. YFI/USD daily price chart featuring its four-day bull run. Source: TradingView The gains surfaced primarily as Yearn Finance revealed that it has been buying back YFI en masse since November in response to a community vote to improve the YFI token’s economics. The decentralized asset management platform purchased 282.40 YFI at an average price of $26,651 per token — a total of over $7.50 million. Furthermore, Yearn Finance noted that it has more than $45 million saved in its Treasury and has “stronger than ever” earnings. As a result, it would — in the future — could deploy its income to buy...
