Liverpool skipper out for the rest of the season

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury. The England midfielder limped out of a 3-1 victory at Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday after damaging his left knee in a challenge with Yves Bissouma. At a Friday news conference, Klopp revealed Henderson will play no further part in the champions’ bid to break Manchester City’s record Premier League points tally of 100. The former Sunderland man will not require surgery, however, and his manager is optimistic he will be fit for the start of the 2020-21 season. Klopp said: “Best possible news. It’s a knee injury, but no surgery is required. “He will not play this season, but I’m positive he will start the new season. He’s a quick healer.” Klopp also revealed Dejan Lovr...

Pep Guardiola: Bernardo Silva’s bad form may be my fault

Pep Guardiola says Bernardo Silva is one of the most special footballers he has ever coached despite the midfielder’s dip in form this season – something for which the Manchester City boss takes his share of responsibility. Silva was voted City’s player of the season as he and his team-mates swept to a domestic treble in 2018-19, but his performances this time around have been indicative of a general malaise, with Liverpool storming clear of their rivals to claim the Premier League title. The Portugal international has featured infrequently in the right-sided attacking midfield position he occupied for a chunk of last term, with Kevin De Bruyne back to full fitness and in prime form. Similarly adept on the right-hand side of attack, Silva has found his path blocked by Riyad Mahrez and, mor...

David Ornstein: Man Utd have expressed interest in 22 y/o winger available for €20-30m

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Premier League clubs are stepping up their interest in Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey. After impressing heavily in Bundesliga in the past couple of years, the 22-year-old is now favouring a move to England this summer. The Jamaica international has scored 24 goals in 114 appearances for the German club since joining from Belgian side Genk in 2018. Sky Sports claimed last week that Everton and Liverpool scouts would watch the DFB Cup final between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in order to keep an eye on Bailey. Ornstein claims that both the Manchester clubs are showing interest in him, although he is not their first-choice target. Bailey and his representatives will hold talks with Leverkusen this week about his situation...

Pep Guardiola ‘interfered in medical matters’ at Bayern Munich – ex-team doctor

Getty Images Pep Guardiola “interfered in medical matters” at Bayern Munich, according to former team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, who says the highly-rated coach thought he “knew everything better than I did”. Guardiola was drafted in to replace Jupp Heynckes in the Allianz Arena hot seat in the summer of 2013, inheriting a treble-winning squad brimming with world-class talent. The Spaniard had already established himself as arguably the finest manager in Europe by that time, after assembling one of the greatest teams in history at Barcelona between 2008 and 2012. As expected, Bayern continued to dominate the domestic scene in Germany with Guardiola at the helm, but he was unable to deliver success in Europe. The 49-year-old picked up seven major trophies during his time at the A...

Liverpool reiterate need for safe celebrations ahead of Villa clash

Liverpool have again urged their supporters to avoid mass gatherings in the city and to celebrate their Premier League triumph safely at home in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, chief executive Peter Moore said on Friday. Liverpool’s 30-year wait for their 19th English top-flight crown ended last week when Manchester City lost at Chelsea and thousands of fans turned up at their Anfield stadium to celebrate. Local media reported that fans launched fireworks at the Royal Liver Building, with a fire breaking out on the balcony of the landmark owned by Farhad Moshiri, the majority shareholder of the side’s local rivals Everton. Liverpool, Merseyside police and the City Council issued a statement condemning the “wholly unacceptable” behaviour, while manager Juergen Klopp requeste...

‘Really poor’: Some Liverpool fans are hammering 23-year-old tonight

Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to the performance of Joe Gomez against Manchester City on Thursday evening. Gomez was in action for Liverpool in their Premier League game against City away from home at the Etihad Stadium. The 23-year-old central defender started the match and was taken off at the half-time interval, as the Citizens hammered the Reds, who won the league title last week. The defender was at fault for two of the three goals that Liverpool conceded in the first half and had one of his worst games of the season. According to WhoScored, against City on Thursday evening, the England international had a pass accuracy of 85.4%, took 49 touches, and made one tackle. So far this season, the youngster has made 15 starts and six substitute appearances ...

Report: Boost for Newcastle as rival club ‘will listen to offers’ for £47m target

According to reports from The Times, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is looking to rebuild the squad in the summer transfer window. He feels that if Manchester City are to win the title back from Liverpool next season, they need to invest in the squad and bring the right profile of players. The report claims that the Spaniard will meet the City board to discuss which players should be leaving the club. After City fell 23 points behind Jürgen Klopp’s side, Guardiola feels that signing a central defender is a necessity. City are keen to offload Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi while the club will listen to offers for John Stones. The 26-year-old defender joined City in 2016 from Everton for a reported fee of £47.5m. He was the world’s second most expensive defender at...

‘Glad’, ‘Thrilled’, ‘Everything’s coming up’ – Some Liverpool fans react to Sane’s exit

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane will play for Bayern Munich next season. As per Guardian, the two clubs have agreed on a deal worth around €60m with add-ons. Sane has had a season filled with injuries and he will be hoping to return strongly next year. It will be interesting to see how he performs with the German champions. The Manchester winger is a world-class talent who could be the ideal long-term replacement for Ribery next season. Bayern have already replaced Robben with Gnabry. Robben and Ribery were key to Bayern’s style of play and the German club have done well to replace their former players with a couple of outstanding talents. Manchester City have two quality wingers in Sterling and Mahrez but they will have to bring in a top player to replace Sane properly. Otherwise, ...

Manchester United directors set the price for their prime target Jadon Sancho

Manchester United directors have set their amount they would pay for their prime target Jadon Sancho. The report in Sky Sport says Borussia Dortmund are demanding a fee over £100million for the attacker but the Red Devils are reluctant to pay such amount for the former Manchester City winger. Manchester United new stance on the signing of Sancho could see them miss out unless the winger remains with Dortmund this summer and moves at a later date. Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United are distance apart in the pricing of Sancho, the attacker scored 20 goals and created 19 assists in all competitions this season. Manchester United is also keen on signing Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish as they aim to strengthen their options in the midfield. Manchester United is also linked with a mov...
