‘Go & win some trophies’ – Some Spurs fans react as EPL rival looks to sign star

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is reportedly wanted at Manchester City this summer. The 33-year-old is set to leave North London at the end of the campaign after him and the club couldn’t agree to terms of a new deal, and the Etihad Stadium outfit have him on their radar. City failed to replace Vincent Kompany last summer, and that played a huge role in their failure to mount a successful title defence. Vertonghen wouldn’t make a huge impact at the club like his countryman did, but he is a quality and experienced cover at both centre-back and left-back. The Belgium international has been at Tottenham since the summer of 2012, featuring in over 300 games across all competitions, but he is yet to win any silverware in England. That is guaranteed at Man. City given the quality of t...

Simon Donnelly wants Manchester City midfielder at Celtic

Simon Donnelly has suggested on Twitter Manchester City attacking midfielder David Silva as a potential transfer target for Celtic. The former Celtic and Scotland international star believes that Spaniard would be a brilliant addition to the Glasgow giants for the next two seasons. Donnelly stated his wish while responding to Trevor Sinclair’s post on Twitter about Silva. Sinclair praised the 34-year-old midfielder on Twitter while watching him in action for City against Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Wednesday evening. The former Valencia star scored in the sixth minute and had a very good game, as Pep Guardiola’s side won 2-1. As reported by The Manchester Evening News in May, Silva will leave City at the end of the season, and Donnelly wants him at Celti...

Pep Guardiola: Manchester City deserve an apology

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said his team deserved an apology, after their two-year UEFA ban from European football was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) — a verdict he called “a good day for football”. Guardiola said the club’s reputation had been damaged by the furore around allegations that they broke Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules and fired back at comments from rival managers Jose Mourinho and Juergen Klopp. Mourinho had described the CAS decision to fine City 10 million euros ($11.39 million) for non-cooperation with the investigation as “disgraceful”. “Maybe. The thing about the money, maybe. But Jose and all the managers should know that we were damaged. We should be apologised (to). Because, like I said many times, if we did something wrong, we will...

Klopp explains why he is happy that Man. City are no longer banned from UCL

The Court of Arbitration for Sports overturned Manchester City’s two-year ban from the Champions League yesterday, with the Etihad Stadium outfit only told to pay a £9 million fine. While the decision left many fuming, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is happy that Pep Guardiola’s men will be playing in Europe next term. City will look to pip the Reds to the Premier League title next season after they were beaten to it with seven games remaining this term. Not playing in Europe would have massively boosted their chances of winning the domestic treble next term, and the Liverpool boss is glad that wouldn’t be happening. Klopp on City’s CL ban being lifted: “I am happy that City can play Champions League next year, if they had 10 or 12 less games to play next season I wouldn’...

Report: Man City set to beat Liverpool to the signature of in-demand £40m player

After triumphing in their legal battle to have Uefa’s two-year European ban overturned, Manchester City are now ready to spend big in the transfer market. City not only lost the Premier League title to Liverpool but they fell way behind their rivals in the 2019/20 season. Pep Guardiola will be looking to make necessary changes to the squad and he is looking to make some big signings. The Citizens would have lost more than £200 million in revenue if they had been suspended from European competitions. But now, they will be able to spend heavily once again in the summer transfer window.  According to reports from The Times, Manchester City are heavily interested in signing the highly-rated Valencia winger Ferran Torres this summer. Liverpool, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Ajax...

Report: Guardiola wants to sign £45m Arsenal target to bolster one major problem area

Having escaped a potential two-year ban from European competitions, Manchester City are now focussing on bolstering their squad in the transfer market. City would have lost more than £200 million in revenue had they missed out on European football. However, with clubs given relaxations in FFP due to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, City will be looking to make the best use of it by bringing in some quality players this summer.  The defence has proved to be one of the major problem areas for City in 2019/20, and Pep Guardiola will be looking to rectify that. City have conceded 34 goals already this season in the Premier League, and needless to say, this is one area in which they are looking to add depth and quality. According to reports from The Times, Guardiola is...

The summer transfer window is on the horizon and clubs across the Premier League are being linked with a host of potential new signings. It has been suggested that many top flight clubs will be reluctant to spend big money during the window, but things will probably start to snowball once the first few deals have been completed. The window will be a particularly crucial period for the ‘Big Six’ clubs, with each of them needing to make differing levels of improvements to their respective squads. Sportslens takes a closer look at the latest state-of-play regarding the key signings the sextet need to make this summer. Gary Lineker’s instant reaction as Manchester City’s Champions League ban is lifted

Manchester City will be playing in the Champions League next season and in 2021-22 after the Court of Arbitration for Sports overturned their initial two-year ban from the competition. The Etihad Stadium outfit will now part with just a £9 million fine after they were initially fined £27 million, with CAS saying most of the alleged breaches reported were either not established or time-barred. City were accused of breaking the Financial Fair Play rules by overstating the sponsorship revenue in their accounts and in the break-even information submitted to UEFA between 2012 and 2016. Failure to play European football for the next two seasons would have dealt a huge blow on Man. City on so many facets, and manager Pep Guardiola, his players and the fans will be glad that the ban has been lifte...

‘What a player’: Gary Lineker raves about ‘exceptional’ Manchester City star

Manchester City showed their ruthless side once again as they breezed past Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s side came into the match on the back of a 5-0 win against Newcastle United. They showed yet another top performance and earned yet another 5-0 win against Graham Potter’s side. Raheem Sterling scored his third hat-trick of the season, as City ensured they will finish in second place in the Premier League. City, who have lost nine away games this season and had lost their three previous away league games, including a defeat at Southampton last Sunday, never looked like suffering another slip-up against Brighton. Former England striker turned popular football pundit Gary Lineker showered praise on Sterling after the match on Twitter. ...

Zinedine Zidane reveals Real Madrid’s plan against Granada

Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane has revealed his team’s plan against Granada in their next La Liga match on Monday night at the Los Carmenes. Zidane’s men will be up against a Granada side that is chasing a slot to play in the Europa League next season and the manager insisted that the fixture is the only thing on his mind. “Here we are in the final week, with three matches,” he said. “Surely it’s the most difficult week because it’s the end of the season. Almost everyone is playing for something. But, we aren’t thinking about the three matches right now. We’re putting all of our energy into tomorrow’s game. We’re not thinking about the maths of when we could win the league, as we’re just thinking about tomorrow’s match.” Marcelo is expected to miss the rest of the season and the Brazi...

‘Up there with the best’ – Pundit drools over 28-yr-old Newcastle star who’s ‘as good as there is’ in the PL

Pundit John Giles has urged Manchester City to sign Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle United. The 28-year-old has been impressive for Steve Bruce’s side this season and the former Leeds player thinks he could improve further if he plays alongside better players. Giles claims that Guardiola should sign Shelvey because the midfielder is up there with the best players and he is as good as anyone in the Premier League when he is on form. He said (quotes via Chronicle): “It would be a gamble, but if I was Guardiola, I’d be very tempted to go for him. “He has the skill, he can pick a pass, he can distribute it, he’s a well-gifted lad and he might be at an age now with the right manager, in the right team – he’d be as good as he’d promised to be years ago. “I think he’d be made for Guardiola because h...
