According to Diario Sport, the central defender wants to see through his current deal at the club through to the summer of 2023 and attempt to force his way back into the starting XI. Umtiti has had decreasing prominence at the club in recent seasons, primarily due to injury issues surrounding a recurring knee problem. The Cameroon-born defender has lost his place in the France international side with Clement Lenglet – his Barca teammate – often preferred in both line-ups, while Gerard Pique is still first choice central defender at the Camp Nou. Report: Manchester City close to signing £30m Liverpool target, verbal agreement reached

After triumphing in their legal battle to have Uefa’s two-year European ban overturned, Manchester City are now ready to spend big in the transfer market. Kevin de Bruyne ‘assist’ blows up Twitter as Belgian equals Thierry Henry’s record

The video of Kevin De Bruyne’s supposed assist against Arsenal has gone viral after the Manchester City superstar equaled Thierry Henry’s Premier League record. De Bruyne finished the 2019/20 Premier League campaign with an impressive 20 assists to his name. He equaled Henry’s long-time record, but the Belgium maestro believes he was robbed of an assist earlier in the season at the Emirates. City beat Arsenal 3-0 with Raheem Sterling opening the scoring courtesy of a ball from De Bruyne who wasn’t officially attributed with the assist. After going level with Henry on Sunday, a City fan suggested the 29-year-old should appeal to become the new assist leader. “KDB needs to appeal for this and get the record,” the social media account wrote, accompanied with footage of De Bruyne’s non-assist ...

David Silva is one of the finest imports to have ever graced the Premier League, says Kevin De Bruyne, with another of Manchester City’s midfield stars hoping to establish the same consistency in his game as the Spanish World Cup winner has enjoyed. After 10 memorable years at the Etihad Stadium, Silva will be dropping into the free agent pool when their 2019-20 campaign comes to a close. The 34-year-old will walk away with over 430 appearances, four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups to his name – with a Champions League crown still up for grabs. He has been a model of consistency throughout his time in Manchester, with the diminutive playmaker proving that the physicality of life in the Premier League can be mastered through talent and hard work. Silva has been showe...

Pep Guardiola & Alan Shearer react to Leeds United’s promotion

English Premier League legend Alan Shearer and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola have reacted to Leeds United sealing promotion to the top-flight following a 16-year wait. The Elland Road outfit were crowned Championship winners on Saturday following their 27th league victory of the campaign. Leeds were head and shoulders above every of the other 45 teams in the division, and they will hope to prove their worth and quality in the big time. The Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa is highly regarded as one of the best tactical minds in the game, and Guardiola is a huge fan of the Argentine. The Catalan consulted with the Leeds head coach prior to taking a step into management, and he has reacted thus to the side’s promotion: Pep: “Congratulations to Leeds United. Historic team. 16 years com...

Opinion: City boost with Spurs keen to sell 24y/o if Levy makes £25m decision

As reported by The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has cast doubts on the future of Harry Winks at the North London club. The Denmark international is valued £25 million by the Saints, and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will need to balance the books if he decides to sign the midfielder. Winks is the most likely player to leave Tottenham if Hojbjerg arrives, but the 24-year-old isn’t short of options. Manchester City have been linked with the England international, and Spurs could be strengthening one of their rivals should they go ahead with the alleged plans for their midfielder. The Athletic’s David Ornstein claimed back in January that the bulk of City’s recruitment and restructuring will take place when the campaign is over, with manager...

‘Great bit of business’ – Some Leeds fans react to Phil Hay’s transfer update on 23-yr-old

Leeds have agreed on a deal to extend Jack Harrison’s loan spell from Manchester City. Phil Hay has confirmed that the Whites had an option to sign the player permanently until the end of May and they have renegotiated the deal now. Leeds will have an option to sign Harrison permanently next summer. The Manchester City winger has been a good player for Leeds this season and they will be hoping he can replicate this form in the Premier League next year. Signing him for another season is hardly a surprise. Bielsa will need to keep his squad together and then build on it. It will be interesting to see if the Whites can sign Ben White as well. Harrison has six goals and eight assists in the Championship so far and he will be pleased to continue at Elland Road as well. He is well settled in the...

‘Klopp was wrong’ – Carragher leaps to City’s defence following German manager’s comments

The Court of Arbitration for Sports overturned Manchester City’s two-year ban from the Champions League on Monday, and the decision didn’t go down well with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Klopp: “But I don’t think yesterday was a good day for football. FFP is a good idea. It is there for protecting teams and the competition so nobody overspends.” #LFC — James Pearce (@JamesPearceLFC) July 14, 2020 Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho is also not happy that City escaped being severely punished, and CAS’ decision continues to divide opinions. The Etihad Stadium outfit were initially banned from Europe for allegedly breaching Financial Fair Play rules, but they have since been declared innocent, and former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher claims that Klopp was wrong to s...

Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-1 to end hopes of record points haul

Arsenal capitalised on shocking errors from Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Alisson to beat the champions 2-1 at The Emirates on Wednesday and end their hopes of a record points tally for the Premier League season. The loss means Liverpool, on 93 points, can now only stretch that tally to 99, one short of Manchester City’s record. Arsenal’s first win against Liverpool since April 2015 lifts them one place to ninth in the table on 53 points. The visitors created all the early pressure and opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Sadio Mane lashed in his 17th goal of the season from close range. Yet the home side, playing without their leading scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, were handed a free pass back into the game 12 minutes later when Van Dijk made a back pass straight into the path ...
