Machine Gun Kelly’s ‘Emo Girl’ Is A Valentine for Sharpie-Colored Hearts

It’s a new year and the newly-engaged Machine Gun Kelly seems to have a fresh outlook on life: Hello, world? You don’t fucking suck! MGK’s new song “emo girl” is the low-caps song for all of his high-caps feelings for his girl who still looks cute when she looks “half-dead.” WILLOW brings the pop-punk street cred and the one excellent line: “Holy fuck, I’m bleeding on your Blink tee.” “emo girl” appears on MGK’s sixth album, mainstream sellout, which arrives March 25 (pre-order it here.) The album was executive produced by Blink-182 drummer and MGK collaborator, Travis Barker, who also played on WILLOW’s previously-released song “Transparent Soul,” from her fourth album, lately I feel EVERYTHING. MGK is performing at this year’s NHL All-Star Game in Las Vegas, and also has a show with...

Staff Picks: The Albums and Songs We Loved in 2021

The late, great Lester Bangs once wrote that we will never again agree on anything as we agreed on Elvis. And he was basically right until Lil Nas X came sliding down the stripper-pole to Hell. Oh, 2021. You rocked us like a damn sociopath. What an insanely exciting, emotional, and reinvigorating year for music. President Biden took office and made Olivia Rodrigo an ambassador. We had Hot Vax Summer and Sad Girl Fall (Taylor’s Version.) Live music came back and Dave Grohl never left. Noobs ruled songwriting. Doja Cat ruled the planet. We brought back the electric guitar (all the rumors are true, baby), 2000s pop-punk, and Adele. We freed Britney. Halsey freed the nipple. And we all somehow found out about a Baltimore rock quintet called Turnstile. It’s all in SPIN‘s lists for Best Songs of...

SPIN and Machine Gun Kelly Address Mental Health Outreach at Charity Art Show

Enjoy where you are right now. That’s the aphorism rendered on a tall wall at the 27 Club, located in Cleveland’s Flats district. And while the more cynical folks descending upon the city for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies might snort and roll their eyes at the sentiment, it fits the vibe of the weekend perfectly. In the spirit of that great notion, SPIN teamed up with Machine Gun Kelly (who also owns the 27 Club), recovery specialist teams Stand Together and The Phoenix for a night of rock history, mental health awareness, and some glorious beat-powered camaraderie. (Credit: Jeff Klaum) The evening was a tacit acknowledgment that mental health is a genuine concern for both artists and fans seeking vicarious refuge through the art. To that end, a specially curated panel di...

As spotted on Page Six the former MMA champion had a tense moment with the former Bad Boy Entertainment MC. An unnamed source says the two exchanged hands on the red carpet because of a photo snub. “They scuffled, then it settled down and Conor went for him again,” the source said, adding that the photographers “weren’t happy” and were “saying they were going to boycott Conor because they were worried MGK and Megan wouldn’t walk.” “[McGregor] was ready to throw fists,” the second source said, adding, “Security was having trouble holding him back.” Well C...

Machine Gun Kelly Allegedly Will Pop The Question To Megan Fox During 2021 MTV VMAs Performance

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Michael Hickey / Getty Is rocker/”rapper” Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox engaged? Some folks believe so. Page Six reports the musician and the Transformers’ star who stole the hearts of many teenage boys could be heading down the aisle. According to Us Weekly, Fox was spotted rocking a huge rock on her finger while Machine Gun Kelly rehearsed for his 2021 MTV Video Music Awards performance, fueling engagement rumors. A source close to the situation speculated that Kelly might make a “surprise announcement” during his performance of his track “Paper Cuts” featuring Kourtney Kardashian’s boo drummer Travis Barker during the awards show which will be taking place at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on Sunday (Sep.12). Page Six reports a rep for Fox shot dow...

Machine Gun Kelly Goes Full Rock on New Single ‘papercuts’

Machine Gun Kelly has fully made the pivot from rapper to rocker. On the heels of being nominated (again) in the Best Alternative category at MTV’s VMAs for his video for  “my ex’s best friend,” MGK revealed his Cole Bennett-directed video for “papercuts,” the first song off his new album born with horns, which seems him again team up with Blink-182’s Travis Barker. The song really embraces the rock he went for on his previous album, Tickets to My Downfall, except it’s more of a bigger, moody, mid-’90s alt vibe. In the clip, which you can see below, a bald MGK hops on a bike straight out of Mad Max and glides through Beverly Hills before ending up on Hollywood Blvd. Also, he manages to perform the song with Barker and his now-trademark (albeit oversized) pink guita...

Machine Gun Kelly Fires Off Cover of Edwyn Collins’ ‘A Girl Like You’

Hip-hop star turned pop-punk rocker Machine Gun Kelly has gone back to 1994 — he was just 4 years old at the time — to cover “A Girl Like You” in the trailer for the new Amazon series Paradise City. The tune was originally written and performed by Edwyn Collins, the Scottish post-punk and former Orange Juice frontman. It’s another interesting move by MGK, whose punky Tickets To My Downfall, which he created with Blink-182 drummer/impresario Travis Barker, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard last year. The LP also served as the soundtrack to an accompanying short film, Downfalls High. Last June, MGK and Barker covered Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name” during the protests. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.p...

[embedded content] [embedded content] Though he’s appeared in a number of films, MGK didn’t appear in any skits. We chatted with MGK about his “unforgettable” pop-punk debut for our November cover story. “How shitty would it have been if I went in there and they were like, ‘It’s cool,’” he said in reference to playing new music for his label, Interscope. “I mean, a lot of things are cool. My breakfast was cool. I don’t want ‘cool’ I want unforgettable.” He certainly seemed to accomplish his mission: Tickets t...

Avril Lavigne Teases New Collab With Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun

If you were looking for a cross-generational pop-punk collaboration, here it is. Avril Lavigne offered a tantalizing caption to a photo of her hanging with Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun in a recording studio: “So are we ready for new music in the new year or what?” The behind-the-scenes photos also showed MGK both at a vocal mic and playing guitar. In addition to the tease of the rapper-turned-pop-punker’s contributions, Lavigne has long been working on her new album with producer John Feldmann of Goldfinger. Mod Sun (who Feldmann is also producing) has also been a part of Lavigne’s sessions. Back in January 2020, We The Kings frontman Travis Clark revealed to Alternative Press that he was working with Lavigne on music for her upcoming record as well, recalling the moment wh...
