Louis Cato will replace Jon Batiste as the bandleader on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when the show begins its eighth season on Sept. 6. Colbert announced the change on last night’s episode of the show, noting that Cato has already filled this summer for Batiste, who is departing “to pursue personal and professional interests.” “Louis has done a great job this summer, and he is very humble, so he won’t say this. But I will. He’s a musical genius,” Colbert told the audience. “He can play basically every instrument over there.
