As of the end of episode 7, Galadriel and Halbrand are on their way from Mordor to meet the elves. Perhaps this is how he meets Celebrimbor. And then when he does, he’ll casually say to Celebrimbor, “hey, that’s a pretty nice forge. I have some recommendations for how to improve it. Oh, and try using that Dwarven mithril to fashion rings.” Ending the season this way (which is how I suspect it will conclude) would be a cleverer way to reward the fans for their attentiveness to the clues and non-Tolkien fans are none-the-wiser. Whether Halbrand is revealed as Sauron (assuming this theory is true) at the end of the season is still unclear, though I’m actually inclined to say he will not be outed as Sauron formally (though I suspect something will happen that confirms to at least the fans that...
Succession star Brian Cox will voice the lead in the upcoming anime movie The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. He’ll be joined by returning Lord of the Rings actress Miranda Otto, plus Gaia Wise (Silent Witness, A Walk in the Woods), Luke Pasqualino (Snowpiercer), and more for the upcoming fantasy feature, expected to arrive in theaters on April 12th, 2024. According to Deadline, Cox will portray the film’s protagonist, Helm Hammerhand, who serves as the King of Rohan 183 years before the events of original LOTR trilogy. Hammerhand must defend his family and his claim against the clever and ruthless Dunlending lord Wulf (Pasqualino). With the help of his daughter Hera (Wise), Hammerhand ultimately stages a last stand at the Hornburg, which later becomes known as H...
It’s always fun to watch talented voice actors jump from character to character, which is what Andy Serkis did during a recent visit to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Despite doing press for his recent turn as Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman, Serkis humored Lord of the Rings megafan Colbert by impersonating several characters from Tolkein’s universe, including a very topical rendition of a Ukraine-invading Gollum. Explaining how he managed to voice 132 different characters in the Lord of the Rings audiobooks, Serkis used a prop microphone to mime the physicality of each of the characters. After shuffling through the likes of Gandolf and Elron, Serkis brought out the hobbit Gollum, who he famously voiced in the Lord of the Rings movies. “Gollum was on this...
After some COVID-19 pandemic delays, Amazon’s blockbuster Lord of the Rings TV series finally has a premiere date. It’s set to air Friday, September 2nd, 2022 on Prime Video in 240 territories around the world. New episodes will arrive on a weekly schedule. The streamer also released a gorgeous first look photo from the show’s first episode featuring an unidentified character. Check it out below. Little is known about the series at this time, including its title. What we do know is it’s set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Read the official description below: “Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to M...
Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd have launched a new podcast and they’re spilling all sorts of secrets from the set of The Lord of the Rings. According to the actors, the movie trilogy could have been down one hobbit by its end. In a new interview with IGN promoting their latest Hobbit-inspired project, The Friendship Onion, they revealed that director Peter Jackson was once pressured by studio execs to kill off one of the hobbits at the end of The Return of the King despite the fact that Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin all survive in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original source material. However, Jackson refused, keeping the foursome alive to the end of their journey. “It’s a good job that didn’t happen, because it would have been me,” Monaghan said with a laugh. “It definitely would have. There’s no wa...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-16T19:15:29+00:00“>April 16, 2021 | 3:15pm ET Amazon Studios has already made it clear that they’re betting big on their original Lord of the Rings series, giving it a second season renewal before even completing the first one. It looks as if they’re willing to put their money where their mouth is, too, as reports indicate they’re planning to send roughly $465 million on just Season 1 alone. The figures were initially made public as part of the New Zealand government’s Official Information Act. The series is currently filming in the country, and officials revealed Amazon is anticipating spending NZ$650 million (which converts to $465 million US) on the first season. When local pu...
Peter Jackson has remastered both The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy in 4K. According to the director, all six movies were lacking visual consistency, so he revisited both the theatrical and extended versions to give them the 4K Ultra HD visuals and surround-sound Dolby audio they deserve in 2020. Do these movies really need some touching up barely two decades later? It’s hard to believe so considering they repeatedly swept the Academy Awards for cinematography, visual effects, makeup, and more. And yet, considering his Lord of the Rings adaptations have maintained their lore over the years and technology makes visual adjustments like these rather easy, Jackson’s decision to do so also makes complete sense. In a behind-the-feature included on the box sets, Jackson re...
Everybody is keeping in touch with old friends these days. As it turns out, so are some fellas from Middle Earth. This Sunday, the cast of The Lord of the Rings will reunite for a special livestream — because apparently Gollum’s nonstop reading of The Hobbit was only the beginning. The epic reunion is the latest installment in Josh Gad’s ongoing series “Reunited Apart”, which has already brought together the cast of The Goonies and Back to the Future during this period of self-isolation. In a teaser clip, Gad geeks out to Astin in an attempt to bring The Lord of the Rings family back together. “I was wondering what you might think about tracking down a certain group of buddies, comrades, pals,” says Gad. “Oh, what’s another word for it? Fellowship?” Astin protests, but event...
There’s never been a better time to watch The Lord of the Rings movies than now. With quarantine affording many people ample time to dig into pop culture they’ve previously missed, watching the series back-to-back is a fun way to pass a day (or three). The most impressive way to absorb the iconic stories is by reading the originals, though, and thankfully someone has stepped up to incentivize that route: Gollum himself. Andy Serkis has announced he will read The Hobbit nonstop to raise money for charity tomorrow. Serkis isn’t exaggerating. According to The Guardian, he will give a continuous, live reading of J.R.R. Tolkien’s 1937 novel from start to finish, with no breaks, which should take around 12 hours to do. That’s a massive task to take on, but the actor is determined to do so i...
