Jack White performed a surprise concert at Third Man Records’ new London record store on Saturday night, marking his first full-length public gig in over two years. White initially played a seven-song set in the basement of the store before moving to a nearby balcony to rip through another five songs. The setlist included pulled from the catalogs of The White Stripes (“Hello Operator,” “Icky Thump,” “Seven Nation Army”), The Dead Weather (“I Cut Like a Buffalo”), The Raconteurs (“Steady, As She Goes”), and White’s own solo albums (“Sixteen Saltines,” “Lazaretto”). Prior to closing the rooftop portion of the gig with “Seven Nation Army,” White dedicated his performance of The White Stripes’ “We Are Going to Be Friends” to “all the neighbors we’re upsetting now.” Advertisement Related Video ...

A police officer on Friday admitted murdering Sarah Everard whose killing sparked anger and soul-searching across Britain about what police, government and society can do to stop male violence against women. Wayne Couzens, 48, a London officer who guarded diplomatic premises, had previously admitted rape and kidnap. Everard, 33, was abducted as she walked home from a friend’s house in south London on March 3. Her body was later found in woodland around 50 miles away in southeast England. A post-mortem last month concluded she had died as a result of compression of the neck. Recommended Stories You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday revealed plans to lift most of England’s legal coronavirus restrictions, including face masks and social distancing from July 19, urging personal responsibility rather than government edict. Johnson had initially aimed for a full reopening on June 21, but was forced to push back the date because of a surge in the highly contagious Delta variant. That variant now accounts for nearly all new Covid-19 cases in Britain, and infection rates have soared, sparking concern. But mass vaccinations have stopped a resultant surge in hospital admissions or deaths. “This pandemic is far from over, it certainly won’t be over by the 19th,” warned Johnson. “We must reconcile ourselves, sadly, to more deaths from Covid. “There’s only one reason why we can contemplate g...
Crystal Palace have confirmed Patrick Vieira as the club’s new manager on a three-year deal that will take the Frenchman through 2024 at Selhurst Park. The Arsenal legend, who was previously coach of Nice until his dismissal in December last year, will succeed Roy Hodgson in the hotseat in south London. The 45-year-old, who began his coaching career with New York City FC in Major League Soccer, takes charge for the first time in the Premier League, having made his name as one of the game’s greatest midfielders during an electrifying decade-long spell with the Gunners. Though forever linked with Les Bleus’ 1998 World Cup triumph on home soil back home, Vieira remains forever associated in the British sporting consciousness as the anchor of Arsneal’s superb period of success under Arsene Wen...

Britain urged all parties to pull back from the violence in Tigray and allow humanitarian workers access to the area on Thursday, after the Ethiopian government declared a unilateral ceasefire earlier this week. “We welcome the Government of Ethiopia’s announcement of a humanitarian ceasefire in Tigray and urge all other parties to the conflict to make similar announcements,” a spokesperson for the Foreign Office said. “The violence must now stop and unfettered humanitarian access granted. In the aftermath of a year in isolation, legendary London nightclub fabric wants to return to the fundamental values of clubbing. After the team behind fabric announced a ban on photo and video at shows, urging attendees to “stay in the moment,” it’s now likely that you’ll never again receive a blurry Snapchat of a muffled bass drop. “fabric is London’s home for underground music, always aiming to create a feeling of self-expression on the dance-floor,” reads a Facebook post shared by fabric. “As we approach reopening, we are introducing a strict no photo, and no video policy at the club. Stay in the moment and put away your phone, enjoy the night.” The announcement was met with both assent and frustration. “Don’t ...
23 people have been arrested in central London after participating in the #FreedomToDance marches organized by Save Our Scene, an organization formed to protect the music and hospitality sectors in the UK. The protests came after a proposed lift of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions—originally slated for June 21st—was postponed to July 19th by the UK government. Revelers, industry professionals, musical artists, and other figures were dismayed at the contentious decision, which sees the region remain under lockdown with no nightlife activity for yet another month. An official statement released by Save Our Scene reads: “The music industry has shown its capacity to open safely and responsibly through multiple pilot events, strongly suggesting this is a political decision not data dri...
West Ham United have signed Celtic attacker Armstrong Oko-Flex. The 19-year-old winger – who is equally adept playing in a more central role – has penned a two-year contract with the Club, with the option to extend this for an additional year. Oko-Flex moves to east London at the expiration of his contract with Scottish Premiership side Celtic, for whom he made two senior appearances earlier this year. “I feel very good to have signed,” Oko-Flex, who had trialled with the Hammers at the end of last season, told West Ham TV. “It’s good to sign for a big club like West Ham United. “I’m very excited to get started here. There are a lot of positives around West Ham and it’s just a great Club to be at right now. “I know a lot of the boys here already. I trained with some of them when I was youn...
Save Our Scene, an organization formed to protect the music and hospitality sectors in the UK, has announced what they’re calling the “largest creative industry demonstration ever in the UK.” For those unfamiliar with the status of the industry in the UK, COVID-19 restrictions pertaining to the hospitality sector were scheduled to be lifted on Monday, June 21st before the government delayed to July 19th. As we reported earlier in the month, a recent survey suggested that 50% of the region’s nightlife will not survive without government aid. In response to the contentious delay, Save Our Scene has organized a large march and performance in London that will feature industry players, supporters, and a spate of artists, NME reports. The organization...
