The 35 Greatest Concerts of the Last 35 Years

We know, we know — the best concert of all-time is your friend’s obscure indie-punk band playing a sweaty neighborhood basement back in ‘94. We admit that one slipped through the cracks.  Maybe it’s a fool’s errand, but this list is our attempt to narrow down three and a half decades of worthy live music events — legendary festivals, headlining tours from major artists, one-off stage collaborations, multimedia spectacles — into an eclectic and satisfying blend. – Ryan Reed 35. So it’s heartening that Heilung’s debut l...

Watch DJ Diesel’s Epic 2019 Lollapalooza Set [Exclusive]

Watching Shaquille O’Neal perform at Lollapalooza in 2019 was a surreal experience. It’s rare to see someone go from rattling backboards to crowds in the tens of thousands, but O’Neal did so with the gravitas one would expect from a true Renaissance man. O’Neal’s foray into the EDM scene may have seemed like a pie-in-the-sky idea a few years ago, but he put his naysayers to bed after dropping a breakthrough Lollapalooza set as triumphant as his legendary NBA career. Performing as DJ Diesel, he graced the stage of the quintessential music festival and went on to play a set that was emblematic of a real genesis, like a butterfly emerging from a (gigantic) cocoon. After he kicked things off with a hypnotic intro edit of Kanye West‘s “Je...

Miss Out on Lollapalooza 2020? Check Out Some of the Best Sets from Last Weekend’s Livestream

Sets from last weekend include ZHU, Kaskade, and G Jones B2B Eprom, among many others. Due to the continuation of the current global pandemic, festivals have turned to livestreaming to satisfy their would-be attendees. Lollapalooza took their weekend to the next level, with 150 artists performing via livestream exclusively on YouTube over four nights. While organizers aired old footage of iconic sets from many performers, they also tapped artists for new original performances, and they got creative. Alison Wonderland was joined by a live band for her set, switching things up for fans who normally see her behind the decks. ZHU held one of the longer time-slots of the weekend and decided to venture into the desert at night and perform in front of a fire. Boombox Cartel made a trip ...

Watch ZHU’s Stunning “Coral.PINK” Show at Lollapalooza’s 2020 Virtual Festival

A cinematic 50-minute set from the Coral Pink Sand Dunes Park in Utah. ZHU has delivered some of the best livestreams quarantine has had to offer. His latest was arguably his best, with an epic 50-minute set from the Coral Pink Sand Dunes Park in Utah for Lollapalooza‘s 2020 virtual edition.  In true ZHU fashion, the performance is effortlessly cool, featuring the renowned producer singing and DJing alongside two band members on instruments. The location is stunning and is the perfect backdrop for his enigmatic brand. It has a similar style to the listening party he held back in 2018 for the launch of RINGOS DESERT in Joshua Tree.  Featured in the setlist is ZHU’s most recent release “Desire,” a collaboration with Bob Moses. The single was played alon...

Using green screen technology, the multi-genre producer was able to simulate the dance music-focused Perry’s Stage. Although COVID-19 put a damper on in-person Lollapalooza plans, NGHTMRE’s simulated version of Chicago enhanced the livestream experience by transporting viewers to the stage they longed for. The reunion marked the first time this particular lineup has performed together in over 24 years. Otherwise, the last time the Porno for Pyros moniker was dusted off was when the original lineup featuring bassist Martyn LeNoble reunited for Farrell’s 50th birthday party. Since then, Farrell has teased of getting the band back together to no avail. This isn’t the last we’ll see of Farrell. Chris Cornell’s daughters are doing an admirable job preserving their father’s legacy. His eldest, Lily, recently launched an IGTV series focusing on mental health. Meanwhile, his younger daughter, Toni, is following in her father’s footsteps by pursing a career in music. In addition to releasing her own original material, 15-year-old Toni has also made a point to cover some old grunge classics. We previously saw her perform Temple of the Dog’s “Hunger Strike” as part of a COVID-19 benefit concert. And earlier this evening, to kick off Lollapalooza’s Lolla2020 livestream, Toni sang Pearl Jam’s “Black” as a tribute to her late father. Watch the replay below (via Rolling Stone).
