Adams Oshiomhole: I’m back to reclaim Edo for APC
Immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has stated he returned to Edo to reclaim the state for APC. He declared that if Edo residents say yes and God say yes, no man born of a woman could say no. He was apparently referring to the September 19 governorship election mainly between APC’s Governorship Candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Edo court orders driver, two traders to cut grass for three days
A Mobile Court in Uselu, Egor Local Government Area of Edo, on Saturday, sentenced two traders and a driver to community service for displaying wares and parking vehicle in unauthorised places. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mutairu Oare, handed down sentence after they had pleaded guilty. Oare directed the convicts to cut grass at the unused Government House gate on Golf Road, GRA, Benin, for one hour for three days. He, however, gave the traders, Francis Nwatu and Emmanuel Lele, an option of N3,000 fine each and the driver, Monday Imaduvbanyi, an option of N10,000 fine. Kidnapped ex-Taraba senator cries out to governor for help
Kidnapped former Senator, representing Taraba North, Zik Ambonu Sunday, has cried out from his abductors’ den, calling on Governor Darius Ishaku to pay the fifty million naira ransom being demanded so that he could regain his freedom. The ex-senator was kidnapped in his Bachama village, Karim-Lamido local government area of Taraba at about 1.30 am last Saturday, according to police spokesman, David Misal. Police arrest father of six for ‘rape’ of 13-year-old girl
The Police in Jos have arrested a 39-year-old businessman, Abdul Abdul, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl after buying N20 sachet water in her mother’s makeshift store. Abdul, a married man and father of six who resides in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area, allegedly committed the crime on June 8, when he went into the shop to buy water. Nasarawa governor urged to halt Tiv/Fulani crisis
The Tiv community in Kadarko, Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa state has called on the state governor, Abdullahi Sule to deploy more security personnel to curtail the frequent attacks on their people. A former Secretary to Enugu State Government and former Rector Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna Prof Samson Ukpabi is dead. Until his death he was the traditional ruler of Okpanku community in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu state. The revered traditional ruler who was one of the leading figures in the state died on Sunday morning. He died at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu after a brief illness. Sources close to the family said that Ukpabi spoke with his family members at about 6:15 am on Sunday before he left for the hospital where he died. Family indicts vigilance group over missing man in Rivers
Family members of a missing 22-year-old man, Arinze Obiukwu, are asking the Rivers State Police Command to put pressure on a local vigilance group popularly known as OSPAC in Elele Ikwerre Local Government Area to produce him dead or alive. The elder brother of the missing man, Ifeanyi Obiukwu, said Arinze was arrested on the 27th of April 2020 by members of the vigilance group and efforts to reach him or secure his bail has proved abortive since then. Mr Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday, withdrew his application for stay of execution of the June 16, 2020 judgment of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal which affirmed his suspension as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress. The withdrawal, his lawyers said, was in line with his concession to the dissolution of the National Working Committee and the subsequent appointment of a caretaker committee by the National Executive Committee of the party on June 25. Following the withdrawal of the motion, the three-man panel of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Eunice Onyemenam unanimously dismissed in a short ruling on Tuesday. Police arrest 46 ‘criminals’, recover N1.5m in Nasarawa
The Nigerian Police Nasarawa State Command has arrested 46 suspected criminals and recovered 1.5 million naira from its operations recently. Woman hacked to death in Ibadan
A 42-year-old woman, Olusayo Fagbemi, has been reportedly murdered in the early hours of Wednesday by unknown assailants at Sasa community in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State. Fagbemi was reported to have been killed while washing plates in front of her house around 5:40am. It was learnt that her neighbours were attracted to the scene by Fagbemi’s cry for help. On getting to the scene, she was seen struggling in the pool of her blood and later confirmed dead in the hospital. The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Kenneth Ebrimson, has disclosed that the recruitment of special constables in the state would commence this week. Ebrimson said the recruitment which is aimed at fighting crimes at the grassroots, is part of efforts to encourage community policing in the state. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has arrested a pastor and 11 others for various cases of rape and defilement of minors. Speaking on Wednesday in Uyo during a press conference, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, said the 33-year-old pastor, Inimfon Inyang, severally raped a 15-year-old girl at his deliverance centre.
