Watch Lizzo Play 209-Year Old Flute Owned By President James Madison

Lizzo already has numerous accolades to her credit, but now she can boast about something no other person has ever done: play a 209-year old crystal flute once owned by President James Madison. A classically trained flutist who segued into pop music later in life, Lizzo briefly performed a few notes on the instrument last night (Sept. 27) during a concert at Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena, following an invitation from the Library of Congress. “Nobody has ever heard this famous crystal flute before,” she wrote on Twitter (in all caps). “Now you have.” The Library of Congress says the flute in question was made in 1813 to celebrate Madison’s second presidential inauguration. Lizzo, Jack Harlow, Blackpink, and Maneskin have been added to the performance lineup for the MTV Video Music Awards, which will be handed out on Aug. 28 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. They join previously-announced performers Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello and Khalid, Panic! Lizzo could be on her way to becoming a half-EGOT winner, as the Grammy-winning pop superstar received her first Emmy nomination today (July 12). Lizzo received a nod in the best competition program category for her show Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. Lizzo is a host and executive producer for the eight-episode Amazon reality series. The show follows a group of plus-sized dancers who are fighting to win a spot as a backup dancer at Lizzo’s Bonnaroo set and on her world tour. Lizzo, Latto and Jack Harlow are among the first round of performers set for the 2022 BET Awards. The show, hosted by Taraji P. Henson for the second year in a row, will air live on BET on June 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The first round of performers also includes Babyface, Chance the Rapper, Chlöe, Doechii,  Ella Mai, Fireboy DML, Givēon, Joey Bada$$, Kirk Franklin, Maverick City Music, Muni Long and Roddy Ricch. However, the inclusion of the word on the song, “Grrrls” by Lizzo was not well-received in the United Kingdom where it is known as a common slur against disabled people. Lizzo Announces U.S. Arena Tour

Lizzo detailed her extensive North American tour. The stint will support her forthcoming record, SPECIAL, which is out on July 15. Kicking off on September 23 in Sunrise, Florida, Lizzo ‘s 25-date run will stop at major-city arenas. Atlanta rapper Latto is slated to support. Fans can pre-save SPECIAL for early access to tickets. The general public ticket sale begins at 10 a.m. local on Friday, April 29 through Ticketmaster. Lizzo most recently put on a matching fur Gucci coat alongside Harry Styles while performing as his special guest during his second weekend Coachella set.
