Report: Liverpool eye ‘surprise’ move for nine-assist PL player…could get him on the cheap

Liverpool are reportedly plotting a surprise move for Arsenal’s rising star Bukayo Saka. According to reports from Football Insider, the Reds are looking to sign Saka. German giants Borussia Dortmund have also been linked with a summer move for the player. The 18-year-old has made a superb start to life in north London, making a strong impact in the absence of Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney. His impressive form has alerted the Premier League champions-in-waiting, and it remains to be seen whether they would make a move for him. Saka has moved into the final year of his contract at Arsenal. The highly-rated Arsenal youngster currently earns about just £5,000 a week. Manager who has worked with 27-goal star claims he would fit in well at Liverpool

German forward Timo Werner has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a while now. Liverpool are thought to be one of the clubs keen on the RB Leipzig star. According to former RB Leipzig coach and sporting director Ralf Rangnick, the German striker would fit in well at Liverpool. Rangnick explains that Werner is suited to counter-attacking football and he benefits from quick switching of play. Jurgen Klopp’s men are probably the best in the world at that and Werner is likely to excel in his system. He said (via Nicolo Schira): “Since Timo has made progress under Nagelsmann, his most important weapons, however, are the quick switching movement and his powerful finish. Therefore, he would rather fit a club like Liverpool, which is similar to our style of play”. It will be interes...

Man City star claims Liverpool ended interest in him after they signed 27y/o

Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez has revealed that Liverpool ended their interest in him after they signed Mohamed Salah in the summer of 2017. The Algeria international was with Leicester City at the time but was open to leaving for a bigger club, eventually joining Man. City the following summer. Despite already having Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the team, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was keen to further boost his attacking ranks at the time, and the club splashed a then club-record £34 million to bring the Egypt international from AS Roma to Anfield.  Mahrez eventually got his wish, though, leaving Leicester and moving to the Etihad Stadium for £60 million. “Before signing for Manchester City, there was interest from Liverpool in me,” the City star told BeIN Sports journal...

Report: Liverpool and Manchester City on alert as club confirms asking price

Liverpool and Manchester City could be set for a summer transfer battle for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar. According to L’Eqiupe, the French club are willing to sell Aouar for £44 million. Lyon may have to cash in on some of their best players following the early curtailment of the Ligue 1 season. The club finished seventh in the table and will not be in the Champions League next term. Aouar has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, with both Liverpool and City believed to be tracking his progress. The 21-year-old has been impressive for Lyon this season, scoring nine goals and creating seven more in 37 appearances for the club. Aouar’s performances have drawn admiring glances from across Europe and he would undoubtedly be an excellent addition to the Premier League. Desp...

Another Premier League player tests positive for novel coronavirus

A third first-team player from Brighton & Hove Albion tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, the Premier League club’s chief executive Paul Barber has confirmed. Two Brighton players had contracted the novel coronavirus in March and April and the latest positive result could cast doubts on the Premier League’s plans to resume the season that has been suspended due to the pandemic. Clubs are due to meet on Monday to further discuss “Project Restart” which envisages a return to play in June once given the green light from government, with the remaining 92 matches held behind closed doors at neutral venues. “It is a concern. Unfortunately we’ve had a third player test positive yesterday,” Barber told Sky Sports on Sunday. “So despite all of the measures that we’ve been taking over the ...

Arsenal’s Bernd Leno names Alisson Becker as Premier League’s best goalkeeper

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno says his Liverpool counterpart Alisson Becker is the best in the Premier League. The Brazilian has made a huge impression at Anfield since his record-breaking £65 million ($85m) move from Roma two years ago. Taking over from Loris Karius following his disastrous performance in the 2018 Champions League final, Alisson has helped transform Liverpool’s back line. Jurgen Klopp’s side have only conceded 21 goals in 29 league games this season, with Leicester and Sheffield United the only other sides to manage fewer than 30. Asked by Soccer AM who was the best keeper in the Premier League, Leno had no doubt. “For me it’s clear, it’s Alisson,” the German said. “He’s good at everything and his stats are also very good. “He’s played a number of big games for Liverpool ...

Jesper Gronkjaer: Hakim Ziyech will succeed in Premier League with Chelsea

Jesper Gronkjaer is backing Hakim Ziyech to succeed after his £37 million ($43m) move from Ajax to Chelsea. The Blues completed a deal in late February and the 27-year-old is set to link up with his new team-mates on July 1, with the Eredivisie season cancelled amid the coronavirus outbreak. Ziyech will join a group including Filipe Luis, Bertrand Traore, Mario Melchiot, Winston Bogarde and Gronkjaer himself in making the switch to Stamford Bridge having played at the Amsterdam ArenA. Moving to the Premier League will prove a step up for Ziyech and Gronkjaer believes he is the star player from the Dutch side’s run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018. “Ziyech was the one who has caught my eye over the past two seasons even though he wasn’t produced by Ajax’s academy,” Gronkjaer told...

Serie A giants looking to sign Liverpool star for an affordable price: report

AS Roma are looking to land the signature of Dejan Lovren from Liverpool during this summer’s transfer, a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness) claims. The Croatian has struggled for regular first-team football with the Reds this term and he has been restricted to only nine starts in the Premier League. With less than 14 months remaining on his contract, he has been fancied to head through the exit door and it is reported that Roma could lure him to the Serie A. The Giallorossi have been in discussions with Manchester United over a permanent deal for Chris Smalling (currently on loan with them) but they are unlikely to afford the £17m price tag. As a result, Lovren, valued at £14.4m, has been identified as the alternative choice and they are hoping to lure him...

Bojan urges Barcelona to sign Liverpool striker instead of Lautaro Martinez

In an interview with Sport (h/t Goal.com), Bojan has urged Barcelona to land the signature of Roberto Firmino from Liverpool instead of Lautaro Martinez. The Catalan giants are on the search for a long-term successor to Luis Suarez and Martinez has been mentioned as the club’s priority target for the summer. The Blaugrana have yet to make any progress in terms of the negotiations and former graduate Bojan believes the club should focus on signing Firmino from the European champions. He added that Martinez has been a striker throughout his career and he could be confined to playing outside his comfort zone unlike Firmino, who is more versatile and can feature in different attacking positions. “Inter Milan do not usually take the initiative and that makes me think that Lautaro could occupy a...

Arsenal to keep Saka away from ‘hugely impressed’ Liverpool

Liverpool have a concrete interest in Bukayo Saka, claims a report, but Arsenal are unlikely to sanction a transfer even though he is nearly out of contract. Saka has been one of the most promising aspects of Arsenal’s mixed season, with the teenager impressing as either a left winger or a left-back. The 18-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season, meaning Arsenal may have to sell him to avoid losing him on a free to a Premier League rival – with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United circling. However, it appears that the Gunners will not be selling him before his contract expires, as Football Insider claims that they are not giving up hope of convincing him to sign an extension and are prepared to take the risk of negotiating into next season. Arsenal are ready to offe...
