UEFA have revealed the nominees for the 2020 fans’ Team of the Year. The 50-man list is comprised of five goalkeepers, 15 defenders, 15 midfielders, and 15 forwards. Rather unsurprisingly, treble winners Bayern Munich are the most heavily represented side in the nominations, boasting ten candidates. Bayern completed the treble with a win over PSG in August Runaway Premier League champions Liverpool and Champions League finalists Paris Saint Germain also hold a high percentage of the nominees, possessing eight candidates each. It was a disappointing turn out from the La Liga giants, as Real Madrid and Barcelona only managed one nominee each, while Atletico Madrid had just two. Germany were the most represented nation with six, with France one behind. Argentina, Portugal, England, Brazil, Sp...

BBC pundit raves about Leeds player who could be a ‘perfect replacement’ for Liverpool star

Popular football pundit Garth Crooks has praised Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, suggesting that he reminds him of former great Manchester United player, Bryan Robson. Phillips was simply outstanding last weekend as Leeds won 1-0 against Everton at Goodison Park. His influential display helped the Whites secure their first win in four games with Raphinha’s long-range strike making the difference between the two sides. Leeds missed Phillips through injury against Leicester City and Crystal Palace, and the Whites conceded four goals in each of them. However, it is no coincidence that the England international’s return to action has seen a marked difference in performance from Leeds. Phillips was simply superb with his passing, tackling and boisterous energy in the middle of the...

Harry Redknapp ‘lucky’ to have managed ‘special’ Papa Bouba Diop

Harry Redknapp has expressed his delight to have managed “special talent” Papa Bouba Diop during his time at Portsmouth. The former Senegal international spent three years with Pompey after teaming up with the club from Fulham in 2007. Diop played a key role for Redknapp’s side as they clinched the FA Cup in 2008 and featured in more than 50 games for the club under the English tactician before leaving for AEK Athens. The midfielder passed away on Sunday at the age of 42 after a long illness and Redknapp has expressed his sadness for his demise, while eulogizing him for his contributions during his playing years. “I was very lucky to have managed such a fantastic boy – he was special. He did a great job for me at Portsmouth and I think the Portsmouth fans loved him,” Redknapp told BBC Spor...

Gary Lineker responds to Liverpool star’s tweet after Brighton result

Liverpool suffered yet another injury blow as the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw against Brighton at the Amex Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.  According to Liverpool’s official website, James Milner – who was forced off from the field after 74 minutes and was replaced by Curtis Jones — has suffered a hamstring injury. This comes as a blow for the Reds who are already missing a host of key players including Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xherdan Shaqiri, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk, with the latter two ruled out for lengthy spells on the sideline. Milner’s tweet on VAR – Lineker responds  Liverpool thought they had picked up all three points against the Seagulls when Sadio Mane scored a late header. However, it was ruled out by the VA...

‘Awful’, ‘doesn’t deserve to start’: Some Liverpool fans tear 25 y/o to shreds after latest display

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw against Brighton at the Amex Stadium, but they still went top of the Premier League table.  Diogo Jota broke the deadlock in the second half with Mohamed Salah providing the assist. It was Jota’s ninth goal for the club since joining the Reds in the summer transfer window from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Salah also had a goal disallowed for offside by the video assistant referee. Sadio Mane appeared to have sealed the game with a late header for Liverpool, but it was also ruled out by the VAR officials. For Brighton, Pascal Gross scored a controversial injury-time penalty, after  Neal Maupay fired a first-half spot-kick wide. While it wasn’t a top-level performance from the Reds, one player who has particularly disappointed was T...

On-loan Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo stars in Cardiff rout

On-loan Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo scored and weighed in with an assist as Cardiff City thumped Luton Town 4-0 in the Championship on Saturday. The Bluebirds were already 3-0 up when the wideman found the net in the 82nd minute following goals from Sean Morrison, Mark Harris and Kieffer Moore during thoroughly one-sided affair in which the hosts took a two-goal lead after nine minutes. Ojo had also contributed the assist for Harris’s ninth-minute goal—the forward’s first for the club—when he sent a fine cross from the left flank for the Wales U-21 international to dispatch with aplomb. The Anglo-Nigerian wideman then added the fourth late on, when he slammed home into the far corner after Marlon Pack’s corner was cleared into his path. Ojo impressed on the left flank—with Harry Wilson also...

Report: Figures within the club believe Liverpool could sign €75m star, Klopp an admirer

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to Liverpool. According to Eurosport, the Premier League champions could make him their next big-money signing. The 20-year-old has been outstanding for the German outfit and he could prove to be a superb long term signing for Liverpool. There is no doubt that Liverpool need to sign a quality number nine soon and Erling Haaland certainly fits the profile. Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino has been in poor form for quite some time now and Jurgen Klopp needs to bring in an alternative. The 29-year-old striker has scored just 14 goals in his last 66 appearances with Liverpool and that is simply not good enough for a team looking to challenge for the Premier League title and the Champions League title every year. Meanwhile, E...

Andre-Villas Boas: Marcelo Bielsa’s nomination for The Best FIFA Coach award ‘scandalous’

Marseille boss Andre-Villas Boas has taken a swipe at Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa’s nomination for The Best FIFA Coach Award. The Argentine has joined a five-match shortlist that also includes Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui and Bayern Munich’s Champions League-winning coach Hansi Flick. Bielsa was at the helm as Leeds returned to the top flight of the English game for the first time in 2004, but Villas-Boas has suggested that these achievements pale into comparison with other coaches who have been overlooked. “Bielsa? Bielsa has to win a prestigious trophy,” he told the media on Friday. “But he’s not among the best five coaches in the world in 2020. It’s a scandal. He won the Championship!” Villas-Boas, who risks provoking the M...

Report: Liverpool enter negotiation to sign £27m defender in January

Liverpool are in talks with Ajax to sign Perr Schuurs in the January transfer window, according to reports from Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport. The report from CdS claims that the Reds have offered £27m for Schuurs who is a highly promising young defender filling in the void of Matthijs de Ligt since his transfer to Juventus. The 21-year-old has managed eight appearances in the Dutch league and started in all the Champions League games so far. His playing style is similar to that of De Ligt, and he is apparently a priority signing for Klopp in January. The youngster has a contract at the club till 2022 and he is yet to pen a new deal. Ajax would be prepared to sell him for the amount Liverpool have reportedly offered. Liverpool’s injury crisis and what t...

Leeds boss kicks against fans returning to stadiums

Marcelo Bielsa has demanded Premier League chiefs block fans returning to grounds until all 20 top-flight clubs can reopen their turnstiles. Under the new Covid tier system, half of Premier League clubs will still not be allowed supporters from Wednesday, while the other ten can have 2,000. Leeds are in Tier 3 and must keep fans locked out – with boss Bielsa saying: “If fans are not allowed in all stadiums, then they should not be allowed until everyone can. “Clubs shouldn’t have to deal with the consequences of being in a category. It should be about trying to maintain the competition as equally as possible.” Arsenal will become the first Prem team to welcome fans back since March when they host Rapid Vienna in the Europa League on Thursday. While West Ham’s Prem clash with Manchester Uni...
