Tasked with guiding my friend through his first EDM concert, I was confident Liquid Stranger would take good care of us. The Wakaan boss brought his DIMENSIONS tour to the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, B.C. on November 26th for a night of head-banging, hip-swinging fun. I took a small survey of festival-goers at Thunderdome earlier this year and Liquid Stranger was overwhelmingly among the lineup’s favorites. That reputation was well-deserved. Already a fan of his music—songs like “Dissolve,” “Dragonhawks” and “Don’t Stop” serve as building blocks for some of my most cherished playlists—it was reassuring to see his live performance measure up. Stranger was also trusted to close out the final day of Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge’s Ch...
Fans of Liquid Stranger have something exciting to look forward to in 2023. The Wakaan label boss has revealed a brand new EP, Unity. The project is slated to release next year on the imprint’s SSKWAN offshoot, which specializes in downtempo electronic music. To build the hype surrounding the EP’s release, Stranger today dropped its lead single, “Smoke N Hope.” Wakaan diehards are sure to be mesmerized by this dreamy record, which weaves ragga-inspired vocals by J Lauryn with wonky drums and pulsing bass. After kicking off with a hypnotic acoustic guitar riff, the track whispers and winds before an enthralling chorus takes hold—and refuses to let go. In the wake of Stranger’s mind-bending B A L A N C E album and Dimensions EP, there’s no doubt t...
Liquidity is a superhuman power one person conjured while sneaking into a Liquid Stranger show in Houston, Texas. An unexpected guest apparently broke in through the ceilings of the venue, wriggling through the air ducts and into the men’s bathroom at Liquid Stranger’s recent show at Ayva. A video shared by a fan, which appears to be a screengab from Snapchat, is captioned: “Dude just snuck in through the ceiling.” It shows a young man stepping on the bathroom’s hand dryer and his other foot on the bathroom’s mirror. As the board from the ceiling falls on his back, he jumps on the sink and then onto the floor. The man did stay at the show, according to a number of responses on Twitter. Liquid Stranger and LUZCID have once again put their creative minds together for a new collab called “Snow Melt.” “Snow Melt,” which marks the first release on Liquid Stranger’s SSKWAN imprint, pulls influence from his fan-favorite single “Dissolve” while ushering in a more melodic sound. The track is smooth, with a slower cadence and an ethereal ambiance that takes listeners on a psychedelic journey. Setting the scene, the song opens with the sound of running water with eerie, subtle drips. Heavy kick drums and a syncopated snare drum drive the track forward before a cacophony of synths pour in. Turbulent in parts and smooth in others, the sound design ebbs and flows beautifully as the arrangement chugs along. You can stream “Snow Melt...

Packed with deep synths and an earth-shattering low end, “The Drill” opens with a hypnotic melody as vocals unearthed from the underworld take us into the chaotic underbelly of the beast. Pushing and pulling with subtle changes to cadence, a gritty rising bass thrusts the track from ground zero into a galaxy unknown, continuing to drive with vicious dubstep elements....
