The 30 Best Songs of 2021 (So Far)

Best Album lists tend to earn all the internet hype — it always feels like a somewhat serious, academic endeavor, adding to the pantheon of OK Computers and To Pimp a Butterflys. But Best Songs lists are weirder, messier, even more challenging on a nuts and bolts level. (When was this song released? When was the album released? Does it need to be singles only?) While LP lists tend to follow the critical consensus, songs lists are harder to predict. And that makes them fun to explore. Below, we gathered our 30 favorite tracks of 2021 so far. (In this case, we decided songs from any 2021 albums were on the table.) And as you’ll notice, we swerved all over the map — from Bieber to Black Country, New Road. Let’s meet back here in six months and see how things shake out. Bachelor – “Anything At...

Watch Dave Grohl Have Fun Co-Hosting The Tonight Show

The multi-talented and always busy Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl added  “co-host” to his resume when he co-hosted  The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Monday. In front of a live studio audience, Grohl helped with all the customary hosting duties, including the opening monologue, the interviews, the sketches and even performed a couple of musical numbers. Fallon and Grohl went head to head on the “Off Songs Song Off” challenge — where it took Grohl an uncomfortably long time to recognize the Nirvana song “Lithium.” The pair also recreated the Rick Astley “Rick Roll” meme as the Grohl Roll during a live performance of “The Best of You,” where he was joined by Fallon and the two traded screamed “the best!’ at each other. Watch the pair play below. [embedded conte...

Lil Nas X Held Down ‘SNL’, Ripped His Pants On Stripper Pole [Video]

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NBC / Getty Lil Nas X has been masterful at owning his truth and trolling his haters. So it only made sense that he ripped his pants while performing on Saturday Night Live. Naturally, the wardrobe malfunction when he was performing “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” the same song and video that got everyone’s panties in a bunch. Well, at least the intolerant folk. Just saying. [embedded content] Apparently, tight pants and a stripper pole are not a good combination, especially on live television. It also goes without saying that Lil Nas X would use the moments for more views (peep his reaction below). The guy is crafty. Last night’s episode was also the season finale of SNL. Lil Nas X also performed “Sun Goes Down,” with no hitches. [embedded content] Hip...

Lil Nas X Rips His Pants During SNL Debut

Lil Nas X made his SNL debut one to remember last night. The rapper’s performance of his latest chart-topping single “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” was set in a hellish strip club, and after a whole lot of gyrating the “Old Town Road” star took his turn on the pole — only to rip the front of his pants. He spent the last minute of the song holding his crotch, which really didn’t look too out of place. X laughed off the wardrobe malfunction on Twitter this morning. “i know i do a lot of planned shit but ripping my pants on live television is not one of them,” he quipped before going into more detail in a subsequent tweet. “at first i was afraid to even perform,” he confessed. “then we rehearsed for 2 weeks, then all of the dancers got removed because one had covid and new on...

Lil Nas X Taking “Montero” To Pornhub After He Claims Streaming Services Are Scrubbing It

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz83 They just won’t Lil Nas X live his best life. Lil Nas X can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to his song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” Upon its release with the accompanying video that saw the rapper pole dancing his way into hell to give Satan a lapdance before snapping his neck, Christian twitter has been on one. It also didn’t help that Nike had a knee-jerk reaction to a pair of customized Air Max 97 sneakers from MSCHF called “Satan Shoes,” resulting in the company reaching a settlement barring Lil Nas X from giving away the final 666th pair. Now, it appears that streaming services are scrubbing the song altogether. On Tuesday (Apr.13), Lil Nas X urged his fans and followers to get the singles numbers up becu...

Nike & MSCHF Settle “Satan Shoes” Lawsuit

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: MSCHF / MSCHF A week and change after Nike hit MSCHF with a lawsuit over their customized “Satan Shoes” Air Max 97’s, Yahoo is reporting that the two sides have settled the legal squabble with MSCHF having to come out of pocket in the matter. According to the report Nike and MSCHF have squashed the lawsuit but MSCHF has to buyback all the sneakers they’ve already sold via refunds. With the sneakers themselves already reselling for more than $2,000, we doubt MSCHF will be finding any of their pairs in the possession of their original buyers. For those who don’t want to send them back, Nike’s covering their bases if anyone’s unhappy with their purchase. The statement also read, “If any purchasers were confused, or if they otherwise want to return their...

The artist is having himself a very busy month thanks to his controversial hit record “MONTERO” (Call Me By Your Name) along with his “Satan Shoes” collaboration with MSCHF. Lil Nas X’s “Montero” Is Now The Number One Song In America

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Tommaso Boddi / Getty While his sneakers have been shelved, all of Lil Nas X’s recent efforts were not in vain. He has landed in the number one position with his new single. As spotted on Buzzfeed, the Lithia Springs, Ga. native has proven he isn’t a one-hit one wonder. This week his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” track claimed the top slot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. This marks his second number one since his game-changing introduction with “Old Town Road”. Given he faced some sharp criticism for the video visual for “Montero,” he made sure to let the world know that he will not be written off. “[Y]’all told a 19 year old who had just escaped the lowest point of his life that he would never have a hit again. you told him to stop while he’s ahead...

Lil Nas X Expresses Disappointment That Nike Stopped The Release Of His “Satan Shoes”

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: MSCHF / MSCHF Earlier this week Nike filed a lawsuit against MSCHF for their custom made Air Max 97 “Satan Shoes” and asked a judge to keep the designer company from filling orders of the limited edition sneakers. The judge temporarily granted their request. Limited to just 666 pairs, Lil Nas X fans and Satanists will have to wait longer than expected to get their pair of Air Satans, if ever. Naturally, Lil Nas X was upset that his collaboration with MSCHF has basically been canceled by Nike and blamed “the crying nerds on the internet” for having a t*tty attack over a pair of sneakers. Taking to Twitter to express his disappointment, the “Old Town Road” rapper/country artist stated “I haven’t been upset until today, i feel like it’s f*cked up they have s...

Lil Nas X Exposed Our Own Hypocrisy With “Montero” Video, Y’all Are Just Mad He’s Unapologetically Gay

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: YouTube / Youtube Lil Nas X wanted to test just how tolerant and welcoming some of y’all really are when it comes to treating people equally. So, the 21-year-old, gay Black man celebrated his sexuality and put our boundaries to the test with his video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” And some of you truly showed your whole entire ass by expressing your outrage on social media due to the imagery in the video. But more on that later. “What Montero Lamar Hill was showing you is that he isn’t afraid of the hell that some of you have already put him in for being gay.” And it wasn’t necessarily what was in the video but who was behind those “provocative” and “evil” images. To be Black is one thing that this country is still trying to accept. To be Black an...
