Oklahoma Movie Theater Posts Warning About “Same-Sex Kissing Scene” in Lightyear

An Oklahoma movie theater posted a warning about the same-sex kiss that occurs in Pixar’s new Lightyear film, telling parents that they would fast forward through the scene. Lightyear, the new Toy Story spinoff that tells the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, has faced international controversy for briefly showing two women kissing toward the beginning of the film. The 89-ER Movie Theater in Kingfisher, a town about 50 miles northwest of Oklahoma City, posted a message on the window of the building about the scene, prompting movie goers to post pictures of the sign on social media. “Attention Parents: The management of this theatre discovered after booking ‘Lightyear’ that there is a same-sex kissing scene within the first 30 minutes of the Pixar movie,” the message reads. “We will do a...

Lightyear Review: A Sweet, But Relatively Safe Buzz Lightyear Origin Story

The Pitch: It’s fitting that after four editions of Toy Story over the last 25 years, numerous spin-off shows and games, and a still-undisputed legacy status, Pixar simply wasn’t done telling stories in this universe. Pixar’s Lightyear Restores Same-Sex Kiss After Staff Revolt over Support of ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill

Disney continues to do damage control following reports that the company donated to every sponsor of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill. After Pixar staff publicly accused the House of Mouse of censoring gay affection in their films last week, Variety has learned that a previously-cut same-sex kiss has been restored to Lightyear. Lightyear is a Pixar origin tale starring Chris Evans as the astronaut upon which the Buzz Lightyear action figure in Toy Story is based. Uzo Aduba co-stars as the character Hawthorne, an astronaut in a relationship with another woman. While the movie reportedly always treated her romantic partnership as serious, a kiss between the characters had been cut. Now, it’s back in the film. It’s the latest attempt by Disney to win back LGBT...
