Conservatives Lash Out at Disney for Depicting a Trans Man Buying Period Products

Since American conservatives aren’t too worried about the Supreme Court’s disbelief in global warming or dismantling of abortion rights, they have to find some nit-pickier topics to get their panties in a wad — like a man shopping for menstrual products in a children’s television show. This week, infamous right-wing writer Christopher T. Rufo  — aka the guy who drummed up last year’s partisan uproar over critical race theory. — tweeted his outrage over Disney+’s Baymax! for one very brief inclusion of an openly transgender background character, sending much of conservative Twitter into a pathetic tizzy. Baymax!, a spinoff of the film Big Hero 6, is a six-part series in which the titular “personal healthcare companion” extends his helpful deeds to the youths of San Fransokyo....

An Oklahoma movie theater posted a warning about the same-sex kiss that occurs in Pixar’s new Lightyear film, telling parents that they would fast forward through the scene. The 89-ER Movie Theater in Kingfisher, a town about 50 miles northwest of Oklahoma City, posted a message on the window of the building about the scene, prompting movie goers to post pictures of the sign on social media. “Attention Parents: The management of this theatre discovered after booking ‘Lightyear’ that there is a same-sex kissing scene within the first 30 minutes of the Pixar movie,” the message reads. “We will do a...

Jerrod Carmichael Says Dave Chappelle’s Trans Jokes Are “An Odd Hill to Die On”

Dave Chappelle has stirred up a lot of conversation about cancel culture and offensive comedy since he decided to make transgender people the butt of all of his jokes, and now, Jerrod Carmichael has entered the chat. In a new interview with GQ, the openly gay comedian questioned Chappelle’s tendency to double down on transphobia, calling his position “an odd hill to die on.” Carmichael was originally proclaiming his love for Generation Z after sharing an anecdote about his young cousin being his most supportive relative after he came out as gay. “I love this generation,” the comedian said. “I actually fuck with them, and fuck all those comedians that are going so hard against them.” Naturally, then, the conversation turned to Chappelle, who has recently become a figurehead for co...

Kim Petras is first up the hill in what is sure to be a flood of new covers for Kate Bush’s iconic pop number “Running Up That Hill” after it received a crucial sync placement in the first volume of Stranger Things 4. Ricky Gervais’ New Netflix Special SuperNature Also Super Transphobic

Ricky Gervais, the comedian who gained fame by lampooning the sexism, homophobia, and overall incompetence of corporate America, has reinvented himself as Ricky Gervais, Genital Understander. He has a new Netflix special out now, and to the surprise of no one, SuperNature is also super transphobic. “Oh, women!” he says less than five minutes after he began (via Variety). “Not all women, I mean the old-fashioned ones. The old-fashioned women, the ones with wombs. Those fucking dinosaurs. I love the new women. They’re great, aren’t they? The new ones we’ve been seeing lately. The ones with beards and cocks. They’re as good as gold, I love them. And now the old-fashioned ones say, ‘Oh, they want to use our toilets.’ ‘Why shouldn’t they use your toilets?’ ‘For ladies!’ ‘They are ladi...

Janelle Monáe Discusses Coming Out as Non-Binary to Their Family: “I Couldn’t Be Little Janelle”

Janelle Monáe stopped by Red Table Talk for the show’s Season 5 premiere and opened up about their journey of coming out as non-binary to their family. “I’m non-binary, so I just don’t see myself as a woman solely,” the singer told hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris. “I feel all of my energy. I feel like God is so much bigger than the ‘he’ or the ‘she.’ And if I am from God, I am everything… I will always stand with Black women. But I just see everything that I am, beyond the binary.” The eight-time Grammy nominee first drew attention to their identity back in 2020 when they used the hashtag #IAmNonbinary alongside a meme promoting gender fluidity on Twitter, but explained during the sitdown that they hadn’t yet started the process of getting vulnerable wi...

Florida Votes to Punish Disney for Opposition to “Don’t Say Gay” Bill

Florida Republicans are retaliating against The Walt Disney Company for its opposition to the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by passing a new law repealing Disney World’s special district status. As reported by Deadline and The New York Times, the land surrounding Disney World has been covered by the Reedy Creek Improvement District since 1967. It allows Disney to administer its own emergency services while gaining extra control over land use and environmental issues. It’s a very business-friendly arrangement, enacted for the sole purpose of enticing the House of Mouse to build a theme park, which it finally did in 1971. That special arrangement is set to end June 1st of 2023. The Florida Senate voted to eliminate the District on Wednesday, and the House followed suit today. Gove...
