Manchester United boss rules out late title push despite derby win

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is refusing to dream of a late title push, believing Manchester City are “too far ahead” despite yesterday’s superb derby win. Bruno Fernandes’ penalty and Luke Shaw’s strike saw United triumph 2-0 at the Etihad, ending City’s run of 21 straight wins in all competitions. The result denied City the chance to go 15 points clear at the top and moved United ahead of Leicester into second but they remain 11 points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s side with just ten game to play. “We just take one game at a time,” Solskjaer said. “City are too far ahead for us to think we can catch them. Last year we caught 15 points up on Leicester, but City are a different proposition. “Even today they put us under so much pressure you could see we were playing against a ve...

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Manchester City still far ahead of others

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has downplayed suggestions his side have reignited the Premier League title race after ending Manchester City’s 21-match winning run with a stunning 2-0 derby victory. Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw struck early in each half at the Etihad Stadium as United inflicted a first defeat on their rivals since November. The result cut City’s lead over United at the top of the Premier League to 11 points and, while it may be a stretch to suggest the title race has been reignited, it has slowed what was looking like a procession. Solskjaer stopped short of claiming the victory will act as a springboard to catch City in the title race this season, telling Sky Sports: “We just take one game at a time; City are too far ahead for us to think we can catch them. Last year we caught 15 ...

Spurs and Leicester linked with 22-yr-old Brazilian who would cost around £69m

Roma defender Roger Ibanez has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City. The 22-year-old centre-back recently signed a new long term contract with the Italian outfit and he has a release clause of €80 million (£69m) in the deal. According to Calciomercato, the release clause will be valid until mid or late July and the defender’s suitors will not be able to trigger it in the final weeks of the summer transfer window. There is no doubt that the Brazilian is a talented defender, but he has done nothing to justify the €80m price tag and it would be highly surprising if clubs decided to splash that kind of money on him this summer. Spurs and Leicester are in need of defensive reinforcements but the Roma star will probably be too expensive for them. Jose Mourinho has been linked wi...

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has confirmed that young English full-back Tariq Lamptey will miss their home game against Leicester City with a new injury problem. Since then, he has become one of the most promising young full-backs around, recording a goal and two assists in 19 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls. ‘Class’, ‘Best performance’: Some Arsenal fans praise attacker’s display vs Leicester City

A selection of Arsenal fans heaped praise on Willian following his impressive display against Leicester City in the Premier League this afternoon. The Brazilian has experienced a tough debut season with the Gunners and, before the Foxes game, he managed just three league assists which came on the opening day at Fulham. Willian made an impact with an assist off the bench against Benfica in the Europa League on Thursday, but there were still question marks whether he deserved a start on the left wing ahead of Gabriel Martinelli as part of the rotation. He managed to prove his worth by grabbing an assist in either half at the King Power Stadium and playing a role in the build-up to the penalty which was won by Nicolas Pepe before the interval. The Gunners started poorly as they conceded after...

‘Hope it’s not as bad as it looks’ – Gary Lineker reacts to Leicester City’s injury blow

Leicester City were beaten 3-1 by Arsenal at home earlier in the Premier League today. The Foxes had a great opportunity to overtake Manchester United in the table with a win and Brendan Rodgers will be disappointed with the dropped points. However, the injury to Harvey Barnes will be more worrying for Leicester right now. The winger had to go off six minutes into the second half and it will be interesting to see if he can return to action soon. Former Leicester City striker Gary Lineker has now shared his reaction to the injury blow on Twitter. Yet another injury for @LCFC and this time it’s the brilliant @harveybarnes97. Hope it’s not as bad as it looks. Jeez! — Gary Lineker 💙 (@GaryLineker) February 28, 2021 The 23-year-old winger has been outstanding for Leicester so far this s...
