Super League: Everton blast Premier League ‘Big Six’

Everton have launched a furious attack on the six Premier League clubs forming the Super League. The Blues launched an official statement: Issuing a statement on Tuesday morning, the Merseyside club said: “Everton is saddened and disappointed to see proposals of a breakaway league pushed forward by six clubs. “Six clubs acting entirely in their own interests. Six clubs tarnishing the reputation of our league and the game. Six clubs choosing to disrespect every other club with whom they sit around the Premier League table. Six clubs taking for granted and even betraying the majority of football supporters across our country and beyond. “At this time of national and international crisis – and a defining period for our game – clubs should be working together collaboratively with the ideals of...

European Super League shelved as more clubs withdraw

The European Super League collapsed on Wednesday as eight of the 12 founding members from England, Italy and Spain abandoned the breakaway project. The project collapsed after it came under massive pressure from fans, politicians, football officials and even the British royals. Founder and Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli told Reuters he was reluctantly calling time on the new league. This was after six English clubs withdrew on Tuesday, with Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid following suit and AC Milan indicating they would too. “The voices and the concerns of fans around the world have clearly been expressed about the Super League, and AC Milan must be sensitive to the voice of those who love this wonderful sport,” the Italian club said in a statement. Agnelli said he still believed in the...

British premier condemns European Super League plans

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has taken to Twitter to condemn plans for the Premier League Big Six to be part of the formation of a European super league. In Sunday’s big story, as Sky Sports report, all of the traditional Big Six in England have signed up to the idea of playing in the proposed European super league. The competition would see many of Europe’s elite compete with each other, without the prospect of relegation, year after year, season after season, until football dies a death. There’s been quite the uproar over it, and understandably so. Football fans do not want to sit around and watch the sport they love be destroyed before their eyes. Neither, apparently, does Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, who has taken to Twitter to post a two-tweet response to t...

Paul Onuachu speaks on missing Belgium goals record

Paul Onuachu may have emerged the Goal King of Belgium, but he came a goal shy of matching the goals record in the Belgian top league. Onuachu netted a brace to finish on 29 goals, a goal short of the record set by Wesley Sonck. The Super Eagles striker insisted he did not play to reach the record Saturday night at Antwerp. “I was not doing that at all today (Saturday),” he told Het Belang Van Limburg . “I played for the team and tried to use my qualities for them. “By getting two goals that worked well. Unfortunately it was not enough for a win and second place (for Genk).” Genk lost 3-2 at Antwerp. The striker was also a booking away from suspension, but he said he was suspended after about an hour because he was struggling with his knee. “I did not think about that yellow card. I had so...

Stoke, Derby County others eager to have Akin Odimayo

English footballer of Nigerian descent Akin Odimayo has been caught in the middle as Championship sides Stoke and Derby County jostle to have him in their squad. The Swindon Town defender has been impressive doing his job and has attracted attention from a number of clubs in recent times. Odimayo joined The Robins last summer on a free transfer from Reading, and has played over 30 times for the League One side. He has played at both full-back and in central defence for Swindon, who are battling hard to avoid relegation. Despite their struggles as a team, the 21-year-old has impressed. Therefore, Swindon are set to take up the one-year option they have on him before then selling him. Court urged to restrain Nigerian government on £4.2 million James Ibori loot

The Federal Government has been sued over its planned use of the £4.2million linked to former Delta State Governor James Ibori. The President, League of Ndokwa Professionals (LNP), Chief Tony Amechi and Legal Adviser, Evans Ufeli, on behalf of the people of Delta State, are challenging the Federal Government’s plan to deploy the funds to projects outside Delta. The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the Minister for Finance are the defendants. In their originating motion, the plaintiffs seek a declaration that the first and second defendants’ decision to deploy the yet to be repatriated sum of £4.2million belonging to Delta State government (when repatriated) for Federal Government’s projects is unconstitutional and repugnant to natural justic...

Manchester City close in on Premier League title with Leicester win

Manchester City took another significant step towards the Premier League title with a 2-0 victory at Leicester City. The visitors dominated from the off and thought they were ahead on five minutes. Fernandinho rifled a 35-yard strike into the bottom corner, but Sergio Aguero – who was appearing for the first time since his impending summer departure from City was announced – was deemed to be offside. Kevin de Bruyne then hit the crossbar with a stunning free kick before Leicester’s best moment saw Jamie Vardy’s strike ruled out for offside on the stroke of half time. The pattern of Man City dominance continued after the break and they deservedly took the lead on 58 minutes when Benjamin Mendy showed great composure to cut inside and place a low shot into the far corner. Gabriel Jesus made ...

Leicester boss declares Manchester City as champions-elect

Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers, has declared Manchester City as champions-elect. Leicester beat Manchester City 5-2 back in September, but City have since built a 14-point cushion at the top of the table and Rodgers is sure his side will be playing the champions this weekend. “I don’t think there’s any doubt they will go on and win the league,” he said. “We, of course, want to make it as difficult as possible but their level of consistency over a long period this season sees them out in front and if they go on and win it, they’ll be very deserving. “But all the teams they have to play want to make sure they have to fight for it and they have to earn it.” Leicester sit third, 15 points adrift of City but more importantly seven better off than fifth-placed West Ham in the battle for Ch...

Former Roma boss, online fan clash over Mo Salah sale

Four years after Mohammed Salah was sold to Liverpool for £35m a die-hard Roma fan has hauled pebbles at the decision describing it as undue emphasis on money over quality. Former Roma president James Pallotta locked horn with a fan who from all indication was ready to throw blows should the need arise. Salah has starred for Liverpool ever since leaving Roma in 2017 for £35m. The unamed fan took Pallotta online , suggesting it was all about money, claiming Roma only cared about Financial Fair Play regulations. He posted to social media: “Replacing Salah with [Patrik] Schick is confirmation of the inability of a company that constantly sells the best players. “You’re not good enough at turning omelettes, trust me.” Pallotta replied: “You still show ignorance by ignoring fact that Salah want...
