Yola has one of the best voices in modern country right now, in part because of the undeniable soul she brings to the genre. Last night, she got to reintroduce her show-stopping voice on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a rousing rendition of “Diamond Studded Shoes.” Watch a replay of her performance below. For the occasion, Yola broke out the Stand For Myself track in a cozy room back home in Nashville, Tennessee. What starts out with the warm vibe of a local band at a bar quickly turns into a powerhouse country-pop song worth dancing along to. Yola shows off her voice with subdued verses and effortless trills, but it’s her massive belted notes towards the end that steal the show. All told, it’s a goosebump-raising live version of “Diamond Studded Shoes” that further drives home the song’s an...
Courtney Barnett is gearing up to soundtrack your Sad Girl Winter with her forthcoming album, Things Take Time, Take Time. To promote the follow-up to 2018’s Tell Me How You Really Feel, the Aussie singer-songwriter made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she performed her recent single (and previous Song of the Week) “Rae Street.” Sonically, “Rae Street” feels warm and rugged, and Barnett’s remote performance suited the song’s ambiance perfectly; she and her band set up in a dimly-lit lounge area that looks like a mix between your neighborhood speakeasy and your favorite grandparent’s living room. It’s the type of setup that makes you want to curl up in one of the big upholstered chairs in the corner and watch Barnett’s magnetic songwriting unfurl in front of y...
Last night, NBC rang in the 1,500th episode (!) of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with help from Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington. To celebrate the milestone, the TV star broke out a bold cover of “Drops of Jupiter” by Train while playing (?) the piano. Harington puts his whole self into the rendition, which you can see for yourself when watching the performance below. The video opens on Harington, dressed in a black suit and playing a grand piano covered in flower petals and burning candles. After the opening section, Harington immediately starts belting out the lyrics to “Drops of Jupiter” so loudly that you can see the veins popping out of his neck. Once the rest of Fallon’s band starts playing the backing track, Harington doubles down, his face turning red at points as he si...
After sobering up from an afternoon of day drinking, Lorde returned to Rockefeller Center on Wednesday night to film the rest of her appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Most notably, the New Zealand singer performed her new single, “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” live for the first time. Whereas her previous television performance of “Solar Power” came live from the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater, Lorde opted for a much more low-key affair for the debut of “Stoned at the Nail Salon.” She sang the tender rumination about aging and domestication while sitting in a garden of shrubbery, accompanied by a stripped-down acoustic ensemble led by producer Jack Antonoff. Watch the replay below. Lorde also sat down with Seth Meyers to discuss how her trip to Antarctica in 2019 inspired her upcomi...
Here’s a morning pick-me-up stronger than a double espresso: Yola swung by Colbert and delivered a towering performance of her new single “Stand for Myself.” This self-empowerment anthem was advertised as being accompanied by Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste. While video evidence suggests he was indeed playing the piano, you’d have to tear your eyes away from Yola to notice him. That’s no easy feat; she commanded the stage in a dress as bright and red as the dawn, as her gale-force vocals swept up and down the register. By the end, the camera panned out to show the audience giving a standing ovation. Check out Yola’s “Stand for Myself” below. The track appears on her upcoming album of the same name, with Stand for Myself dropping July 30th on Easy Eye Sound. Earlie...
Margo Price has announced Live From the Other Side, a new audiovisual EP due out July 16th via Loma Vista Recordings. To preview the project, the country singer filmed a Late Show with Stephen Colbert performance featuring a new version of “Hey Child” with Adia Victoria, Allison Russell, Kam Franklin, and Kyshona Armstrong. Live From the Other Side will contain a cover of The Beatles’ “Help” (also featuring Victoria, Russell, Franklin, and Armstrong), a solo arrangement of “That’s How Rumors Get Started,” and “Hey Child.” In a statement, Price reflected on the year since she released the excellent That’s How Rumors Get Started and shared how Tina Turner influenced her new project. “I hope it kept you warm during those cold, lonely nights,” she said about Rumors. “Some things changed f...
Celebrating the release of her new EP Our Extended Play, beabadoobee appeared as the musical guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night. The UK singer-songwriter (and our 2020 Rookie of the Year) performed the jangly single “Last Day On Earth”, turning a studio space into a teen’s dream party with the help from a few extras — and a cameo from Simon Pegg. Keeping in line with beabadoobee’s early 2000s aesthetic, the set of her “Last Day On Earth” performance felt straight out of an episode of Lizzie McGuire. As she perused the set with her microphone in hand, she swung by a DJ booth, jumped on a bed with a crew of friends, and exchanged a handshake with Pegg. Check it out below. Our Extended Play EP, which beabadoobee made in collaboration with members of the 1975, was ...
Lucy Dacus’ third album, Home Video, is out this Friday, and the singer-songwriter celebrated release week with a remote musical guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Performing her latest single “Brando” from the Virginia Repertory Theatre, Dacus aptly brought an old Hollywood style to complement the track’s classic film references. Complete with sequined dresses, bowties, and a dance routine that would make Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers proud, Dacus’ performance of “Brando” begins with a black-and-white filter that bursts into color just in time for the song’s climax. With the vintage setting of the theatre as their backdrop, Dacus, her band, and her dancers feel like they’re lifted straight from a 1940s film. Watch the clip below. “Brando” is the fourth and final preview we get o...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-23T14:40:08+00:00“>May 23, 2021 | 10:40am ET Lil Nas X helped close out Saturday Night Live’s 46th season by performing his two latest singles: the chart-topping “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and his recent follow-up, “Sun Goes Down”. However, Lil Nas X’s appearance on SNL’s season finale nearly proved disastrous, and not because angry conservatives bum-rushed the stage. Rather, all that gyrating during Lil Nas X’s performance of “Montero” caused the front of his pants to split open. He spent the last minute of his performance with one hand on his crotch — which, to be honest, wasn’t all that out of place when juxtaposed alongside some of the other sultry moves carried out by ...

Rodrigo used her first performance of the evening to sing her record-smashing debut single, “Drivers License”. Upon its release earlier this year, the power pop ballad set a record on Spotify for most streams on a single day (17 million), on its way to becoming the latest song to reach 100 million streams on the streaming service. It also spent eight consecutive weeks atop Billboard’s Hot 100. Later in the episode, the 18-year-old Rodrigo performed the live debut of her latest single, the fiery pop punk anthem ...

Filmed to tape at the legendary Blue Front Café, Dan Auerbach, Patrick Carney, and their backing band delivered slick covers of Junior Kimbrough’s version of the John Lee Hooker classic “Crawling Kingsnake” and R.L. Burnside’s “Going Down South”. Replay both performances below. Also check out Paolo Ragusa’s interview with Carney about the making of Delta Kream. <span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-12T16:33:41+00:00“>May 12, 2021 | 12:33pm ET Time is a walking bass line, and despite some funky digressions along the way, we always seem to wind up back where we started. Perhaps that’s why a certain brand of pre-reggae Jamaican jamming keeps getting re-interpreted for different eras, and why the two-tone legends Madness are once again skascendent. The UK outfit is gearing up for a 2022 tour, and which they’ll preview with a new livestream, “The Get Up”, on May 14th. This busyness is to expected, because, as they demonstrated on Kimmel last night, during the skanaissance, every house is “Our House”. “Our House” came out on the 1982 album The Rise & Fall, ...
