Sylvan Esso Announce 2022 Tour Dates, Perform “Ferris Wheel” on Kimmel: Watch

It’s been almost two years since Sylvan Esso shared “Ferris Wheel,” but the electro-pop jam still has plenty of life left in it, as evidenced by the duo’s performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night. In addition to their latest late-night appearance, Sylvan Esso have announced a leg of tour dates for Spring 2022. Sylvan Esso don’t need much to light up a stage, thanks to singer Amelia Meath’s singular dance moves and keyboardist Nick Sanborn’s infectious enthusiasm. Backed by little more than colored flood lights, their Kimmel performance is just one example of their consistently great live energy. The duo’s tour begins in Birmingham, Alabama on May 11th, taking them through the East Coast before they wrap up at Electric Forest Festival in Michigan this June. The 14-da...

Earl Sweatshirt Performs “2010” on Fallon: Watch

Earl Sweatshirt stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday (January 24th) to play “2010,” a single off his excellent new album, SICK! Performing against the backdrop of an animated visualizer reflecting the themes of the project, Earl was solely accompanied by producer Black Noi$e, who produced nearly half of the songs on the 10-track album. Without the aid of a backing vocal track, Earl expertly twists and turns his flow to match the atmospheric beat. Watch the replay below the jump. “2010” is one of three singles Earl shared in anticipation of SICK! During the lead-up to the album’s release on January 14th, he also dropped the Armand Hammer-assisted “Tabula Rasa” and spaced out “Titanic.” Advertisement Related Video In Marcus Shorter’s review of SICK! for Conse...

Nell Smith and The Flaming Lips Cover Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand” on Colbert: Watch

14-year-old musician Nell Smith and psych rock veterans The Flaming Lips took their unlikely friendship to television last night, covering Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The track comes from Where the Viaduct Looms, an album of Nick Cave covers that Smith and the band released in November. Smith took center stage with the veteran rockers arrayed behind her, as a projection screen brought the eye into a whirlpool of psychedelia. Lips frontman Wayne Coyne displayed his trademark humility, fading into the background and only stirring to sing the occasional supporting vocal or bang on a single drum. At the end, drummer Matthew Kirksey pulled his blazer aside to reveal a T-shirt that read “Bad Seed,” in tribute to Cave’s longtime band the Bad Seeds...

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night to perform “Searching for My Love.” The track is featured on the duo’s new collaborative album Raise the Roof, which was released last month. Watch the replay below. Previously, Plant and Krauss supported the album’s release by performing “Can’t Let Go” and “Trouble With My Love” on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. They also recently played an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Next year, the Led Zeppelin frontman and bluegrass singer will embark on an expansive international tour in support of the studio effort. They’ll play ten US dates throughout June before hopping the pond for the trek’s European leg, which includes stops at London’s BST Hyde Park, the Lucca Summer Festival in Italy, and the Forest...

BTS Stop Traffic Performing “Butter” on Corden: Watch

BTS literally stopped traffic during their latest appearance on Corden, blocking Geneese Ave in Los Angeles to perform “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” “and “Dynamite.” This is becoming a habit for James Corden, who halted traffic over the summer with a reviled flash mob. But if anyone can make spending more time in LA traffic lovable, it’s the Bangtan Boys. For their performance of “Butter,” they sang alongside dancers dressed as sticks of emulsified cream. A sign labelled “BUT” rolled from one side of the street to be joined by “TER” coming the other way, as the K-Pop idols churned through their choreography. Like the product for which it was named, this “Butter” might give you a heart attack. Check out all three performances below. BTS, who after playing a record-setting series of ...

Billie Eilish Confirms Her Rock Star Status with SNL Performance of “Happier Than Ever”: Watch

In 2019, Dave Grohl famously proclaimed Billie Eilish as the future of rock ‘n’ roll. “The same thing is happening with her that happened with Nirvana in 1991,” Grohl said. “People say, ‘Is rock dead?’ When I look at someone like Billie Eilish, rock and roll is not close to dead!” While some may scoff at the comparison, one needs to look no further than Eilish’s Saturday Night Live performance of “Happier Than Ever” to see one of the more kick ass concert moments in recent memory. The title track to Eilish’s sophomore LP began as a hushed ballad sung from a love seat positioned on an on-set living room. However, as the song reached its crescendo, the 20-year-old singer assumed the role of rock ‘n’ roll frontwoman, leading her brother Finneas and drummer Andrew Marshall with the same unbrid...

BTS Perform “Butter” to Celebrate the 1,000th Episode of Corden: Watch

Last night, The Late Late Show with James Corden celebrated its 1,000th episode, of which approximately 999 featured BTS  (ok, that’s a slight exaggeration, though Corden undoubtedly wishes it were true). To honor the occasion, the Bangtan Boys returned once again to perform a rendition of their record-breaking hit, “Butter.” BTS sang the song live with a backing track, and if you’ve been following these performances closely, you’ll be able to hear a marked improvement in their English accents from just a few months ago. After a two-year marathon, the world’s most famous septet are getting close to a well-deserved “extended period of rest,” and this iteration of “Butter” was much looser than usual — a bit breathier at times, with slightly more ad-libbing on the mic, and a goofy dance ...

Wet Leg Make US TV Debut by Performing “Chaise Longue” on Seth Meyers: Watch

After releasing just four songs, Wet Leg have earned a considerable amount of buzz from websites just like this one, and last night the British indie rockers stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers for a performance of “Chaise Longue.” The track appears on the band’s upcoming self-titled debut album, due out April 8th, 2022 via Domino. Wet Leg founders Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers clearly enjoyed making their US TV debut, exchanging sly glances while getting away with singing tongue-in-cheek lyrics like “I went to school and I got the big D” on air. Further showing off their wry humor, “Chaise Longue” also alludes to a scene from Mean Girls (“Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin?”). Watch Wet Leg’s performance below. Fueled by a chugging guitar riff, it’...

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss Perform “Trouble With My Lover” and “Can’t Let Go” on Colbert: Watch

On Friday (November 19th), Robert Plant and Alison Krauss released Raise the Roof, their long-awaited new collaborative album composed largely of covers made famous by blues, country, folk, and soul pioneers. To celebrate the occasion, the Led Zeppelin frontman and the bluegrass singer stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, playing “Trouble With My Lover” and “Can’t Let Go.” With their band set up remotely in a studio filled with rustic decor, Plant and Krauss’ performance only further testifies to their incredible musical chemistry. On “Trouble With My Lover” — a moody number originally sung by New Orleans blues icon Betty Harris in 1969 — Krauss takes the lead, showing off her powerhouse vocals. “Can’t Let Go,” which was written by Randy Weeks and later covered by Lucin...

Damon Albarn Brings “Darkness to Light” on Fallon: Watch

Damon Albarn celebrated this week’s release of his new album, The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows, by stopping by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night (November 12th). As the evening’s musical guest, the musician delivered a stunning rendition of his song “Darkness to Light.” While most of us are more used to Albarn rocking out as the frontman of Blur or taking on an animated persona with Gorillaz, his solo work positions him as a soft-rock crooner. With a full backing band, Albarn was able to stick to vocals alone; with a black-and-white filter placed over the footage, it makes for one arresting performance. (Notably, his mullet is still in full force.) Watch him sing “Darkness to Light” on Fallon below. Albarn first conceptualized The Nearer th...
