Smashing Pumpkins Perform “CYR” on Fallon: Watch

On Tuesday night, Smashing Pumpkins delivered their first-late night television appearance in support of their new double album, CYR. Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and Jeff Scroeder beamed remotely into The Tonight Show for a performance of the album’s title track. Watch the replay below. In a review of CYR for Consequence of Sound, Tyler Clark said the sprawling double album is “as frustrating as it is ambitious.” In other news, the Pumpkins recently announced a 33-song (!) sequel album to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in honor of its 25th anniversary. The group is also planning to embark on an arena tour next year in further support of the classic record. [embedded content] Related You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are lookin...

Kurt Vile Covers John Prine’s “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” on Seth Meyers: Watch

Kurt Vile stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thanksgiving evening to perform his cover of “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” by John Prine. Watch the full performance below. Instead of doing the traditional introduction to segue into Vile’s performance, Meyers actually told a brief, personal story before passing the microphone over to the musician. “My family loved John Prine and we booked this act because we thought it would be a perfect song to listen to together on that couch,” he said. “Now we can’t be together, and it was unplanned, but this is a perfect song for anyone who’s not with their loved ones this year.” Vile’s rendition of the song is a faithful, yet emotional, spin on Prine’s original version. Basked in the soft glow of an overhead light, Vile takes his time fingerpi...

Sheryl Crow Covers Tom Petty’s “You Don’t Know How It Feels” on Fallon: Watch

Tom Petty’s estate released the expanded Wildflowers box set last month, and they’ve been tapping artists to promote it in his place since the beloved late musician cannot. On Wednesday night, Sheryl Crow stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform “You Don’t Know How It Feels” — and she did so with the help of three other Sheryl Crows. “You Don’t Know How It Feels” is one of those classic rock staples that hits you right in the heart. The original version of the classic 1994 single has plenty of swagger courtesy of a bluesy harmonica solo, a great guitar riff, and of course Petty’s empathetic chorus. Wildflowers & All The Rest includes a 2014 remastered version of the song as well as the original 8-track demo and a live version. In her take on the song, Crow essential...

Bad Bunny Releases New Album El Último Tour del Mundo: Stream

Latin trap and reggaeton king Bad Bunny has returned with El Último Tour del Mundo, his third album of 2020. Stream it below via Apple Music or Spotify. El Último Tour del Mundo follows YHLQMDLG, which came out in February, and Las Que No Iban a Salir, which dropped in May. It spans 16 tracks in total, including collaborations with Rosalía, Jhay Cortez, and ABRA, and takes a rock-forward approach that suits the reggaeton star rather well. It appears Bad Bunny is giving “O VISTO ASÍ” the single treatment, too. The album cut is accompanied by a flashy music video filled with graffiti-filled skateparks and celebrity photoshoots. You know you’ve made it when you can casually call up people like Ricky Martin, Sofia Vergara, and Karol G to star in your song’s visuals. Check it out below. Th...

BTS Bring “Life Goes On”, Holiday Cheer to Corden: Watch

On Monday, BTS fans were gifted the best holiday present of them all: the Bangtan Boys under their Christmas tree. Following appearances on Good Morning America and the 2020 American Music Awards, the K-pop megastars visited The Late Late Show with James Corden, where they performed their latest single “Life Goes On” in extraordinary festive fashion. The group’s virtual setup was made to look like a series of cozy living rooms decked out in seasonal decor, complete with Christmas trees, wreaths, candles, and even indoor snow. All seven members of BTS — J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, V, RM, and Suga — were of course dressed for the occasion, outfitted in toasty sweaters, cardigans, and hoodies. We now clearly need an entire merch line dedicated to BTS Christmas. Replay the video down be...

Brittany Howard Covers Nina Simone’s “Revolution” on Colbert: Watch

Brittany Howard received five Grammy Award nominations across four genre categories (Rock, Alternative Music, R&B, and American Roots) on Tuesday. Hours later, she appeared on Colbert, but instead of performing any of her recognized work, she chose to dig into yet another genre and perform someone else’s song. Howard delivered an impassioned blues rock rendition of Nina Simone’s “Revolution”. Matching her band’s red attire, Howard strutted about the stage like she was playing for a real live audience. It’s got to be hard to muster that sort of energy these days, but the Alabama Shakes singer barely looked like she had to dig very deep at all as she busted out the powerful performance. Of course, she’s been covering the song (itself a response to The Beatles’ “Revolution”) live for awhi...

BTS Perform “Dynamite”, Talk Grammy Nomination on Corden: Watch

Fresh off their first musical Grammy nod, the superstar K-pop group BTS dialed in to The Late Late Show with James Corden to discuss the Grammy Awards and perform their newly-nominated song “Dynamite”. Despite Corden’s introduction touting their “first ever Grammy nomination,” the Bangtan Boys had previously been up for Best Recording Package in 2019 for their album Love Yourself: Tear. But this is the first time that J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, V, RM, and Suga were recognized for their musical contributions, and they certainly seemed excited. Corden showed a video of the members watching as their name was called, complete with hooting, clapping, and jumping off the couch. But one member, V, merely sat there in shock. As he explained, “The reactions were different for each...
