Lana Del Rey Finds Grace While Searching For ‘Arcadia’

“My body is a map of L.A./ And my heart is like paper, I hate ya,” Lana Del Rey sings in the second verse “Arcadia,” the fourth single from her eighth studio album, Blue Banisters, out October 22nd via UMG. If we as a society have learned anything in the 10-odd years since “Video Games,” it’s that nobody does breakup songs quite like Lana Del Rey. Though just about everyone since has tried. “Arcadia” is both elegant and elegiac. Over a muted piano, Del Rey sings her origin story with an innocence that recalls Daniel Johnston’s compact masterpiece, “Story Of An Artist.” The way she lets us hear just enough of a quiver feels like an act of surrender for Del Rey. Without the old Hollywood glamor, Del Rey sounds liberated, clear-eyed, and mournful. Del Rey, like her folk forbears Patty Griffin...

Lana Del Rey Pushes Back Blue Banisters, Teases New Song

Lana Del Rey fans are going to have to find another soundtrack for their 4th of July festivities this year. After revealing that her upcoming album, Blue Banisters, was slated for a July 4 release, the singer-songwriter took to Instagram on Saturday night to break the news that it’s now “TBD.” But it wasn’t all bad news. Del Rey let fans down easy by also unveiling the album’s cover art: a photo of her in a yellow dress, sitting barefoot on a deck alongside her two German Shepherds Tex and Mex. She also teased a new single off the album in a separate post. “Album out later later… Single out soonish. Have a good fourth x” she captioned the video, which sees her singing along to a slow piano-led song. This will be the fourth offering off Blue Banisters. In May, Del Rey shared its title ...

The album, however, seems to indicate that the album will be Blue Banisters. Late last year, Del Rey made her first TV performance in the U.S. in nearly a d...

Lana Del Rey Delivers Her Most Delicate Music Yet on Chemtrails Over the Country Club

By moniker alone, Chemtrails Over the Country Club would be considered a worthy new chapter in Lana Del Rey’s ongoing subversion of classic (see: myopic) American fantasies.  Chemtrails spell conspiracy and doubt; country clubs conjure our obsession with wealth, status and all things Instagram braggadocio. One looms above the other, further threatening the golden-era glamor Del Rey has spent a decade both romanticizing and dissecting. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″,”height”:”270″,”playlist”:”10315″,”inviewBottomOffset”:”105px”} }); –...

Lana Del Rey Teases ‘White Dress’ Single; Country Covers Album Also Completed

In an Instagram post, Lana Del Rey shared a 20-second video of her rollerblading down an empty, sunny highway as a tease to her next single, “White Dress,” off her upcoming Chemtrails Over the Country Club LP that’s out this month. In an interview clip in the same post, Del Rey answers an off-camera question about videos, saying, “I don’t know what I”m going for, but I do hope one day, I can work with somebody who actually knows how to make videos like John Waters or David Lynch.” Del Rey also revealed she has also recorded a country covers album, telling Contact Music, “I went back and listened to ‘Ride’ and ‘Video Games’ and thought, you know they’re kind of country. I mean, they’re definitely not pop. “Maybe the way ‘Video Games’ got remastered, they’re pop,” she continued, “b...

Lana Del Rey Doubles Down on Chemtrails Cover Defense, Says Trump Presidency ‘Needed to Happen’ in Order to Address ‘Problems’

Lana Del Rey might want to be a bit more careful as she promotes her upcoming album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club. The “Summertime Sadness” singer took to Instagram yesterday to awkwardly point out that the newly released album cover features people of color (including “My best friends are rappers my boyfriends have been rappers” and “I’m not the one storming the capital, I’m literally changing the world by putting my life and thoughts and love out there on the table 24 seven”). Del Rey then went on BBC Radio 1 to further discuss the album, which quickly devolved into a rambling discussion about her post, politics, and the state of the nation in general. “Before I even put the album cover up, I knew what people were going to say,” Del Rey said. “So when they actually started ...

Hayley Williams, St. Vincent and Lana Del Rey Perform Covers for Jack Antonoff’s Charity

Bleachers frontman and prolific producer Jack Antonoff, along with his sister Rachel Antonoff, took their 7th annual Ally Coalition Talent Show that supports LGBTQ+ youth virtual this year. Even though it was streamed on Twitch, that didn’t make it any less impressive. This year’s lineup included St. Vincent, Hayley Williams, Sleater-Kinney, Lana Del Rey, Spoon, The Chicks among many more. St. Vincent’s Annie Clark sang The Beatles’ 1968 ditty about Paul McCartney’s sheepdog, “Martha My Dear,” Lana Del Rey delivered “Silent Night” while sitting in front of her Christmas tree and Hayley Williams, with her hair up in a towel, did Massive Attack’s “Teardrop.” Other highlights included performances by Maggie Rogers, Brittany Howard and Antonoff performing “This is Me Trying” by&...

Lana Del Rey Performs on The Tonight Show in First TV Appearance in Eight Years

Lana Del Rey performed “Let Me Love You Like A Woman” for the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But that wasn’t the most noteworthy element of her socially-distanced performance. The Tonight Show’s Twitter account wrote that the singer was “Making her first U.S. TV appearance in 9 years.” Though the math doesn’t technically check out (Del Rey performed on SNL in January 2012), it has been a long time since the singer-songwriter appeared since that critically-panned performance. As for the song itself, it had a full complement of back-up singers along with Del Rey’s band and was filmed on an old-timey bar-themed set. Check out Del Rey’s performance of “Let Me Love You Like a Woman on the Tonight Show below. [embedded content] “Let Me Love You Like A Woman,” will appear on D...
