Police dismiss explosives in Oshodi market fire
Hours after Lagos Emergency Management Agency said its investigation showed some for of explosive or accelerant was used in the fire which gutted Oshodi Market, police has ruled out any explosive being involved in the incident. It signals a controversy over the cause of the fire, which started with an explosion on Thursday night. Lagos police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said police and expert investigations showed the fire was “not caused” by bombing or explosives. “The commissioner of police has debunked the rumour that the Oshodi market inferno was caused by bombing or explosives. The public is hereby urged to disregard such news or rumour,” said Adejobi. LASEMA personnel hit by stray bullet
A paramedic intern with Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Morinola, Marian Omobukola, was Tuesday, hit by stray bullets while discharging her official duties in Oshodi. The incident occurred at about 4 pm. She has been taken to the Trauma Centre at the Toll Gate, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway for medical attention. LASEMA: Two died, six injured in a four vehicles accident
Two persons died on the spot while four others were seriously injured in an accident along Anthony-inward-Gbagada on Tuesday night in Lagos. The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed this to newsmen on Wednesday. Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA received distress calls on the accident, around 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday. He added that four vehicles were involved in the accident, comprising two tipper-lorries, one petroleum tanker and one commercial bus. Lagos to decamp pipeline explosion victims from relief camp
The Lagos State Government says it set to decamp the Abule-Egba pipeline explosion victims from the Igando Relief camp on June 30. Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Lagos on Saturday. Oke-Osanyintolu said the state government had been supporting the rehabilitation of victims since January when the explosion occurred. He said that the government would be closing the camp effective June 30. Tragedy occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 30, 2020, when fire gutted Olaleye Market in Somolu, Bariga area of Lagos State in which several items and properties worth billions of naira were destroyed. LASEMA raises alarm over distressed three-storey building
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Friday, raised the alarm, over a distressed building in the state. LASEMA Director-General Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu said the building situated at No 7, Sule Close, Apapa/Iganmu Local Council Development Area of the state, was physically unfit when the attention of the agency was drawn to it. He said the agency’s response team alongside Lagos State Building Control Agency LASBCA, and Lagos State Material Testing Agency will be carrying out a full inspection and additional testing on the building.
