Kraftwerk Member Karl Bartos Shares Career Journey In New Memoir, “The Sound of the Machine”

An electronic music pioneer is putting his storied career to the page in an upcoming memoir.  Former Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos has revealed The Sound of the Machine. The new book chronicles the rise of the pioneering band, who recently joined the very selective club of electronic music artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. “I reveal why our music – created in the analogue world – has survived its digital substitute,” Bartos said of the memoir, per Euronews. “As I see it, in our best moments the compositions are a testament to our search for the poetry concealed in the sound of the machine.” Karl Bartos became Kraftwerk’s fourth member in the mid-1970s and remained a member of the group until 1990. Rolling Stone has published its list of greatest dance songs of all-time. Dance music has evolved immensely over the years and is now paramount to today’s contemporary music ecosystem. In order to land on their high-profile list, the songs “had to be part of ‘dance music culture,'” according to Rolling Stone. “It’s a more specific world, but an enormous one too, going back nearly fifty years and eternally evolving right up to today and into the future,” the outlet writes. Covering 200 tracks, the list features electronic dance music classics like Avicii‘s “Levels” (#52), Nero‘s “Promises” (#42), DJ Snake‘s “Turn Down For What” (#22) and Disclosure‘s “Latch” (#10)...

Here’s a List of Every Electronic Music Show at Red Rocks In 2022

If music were water, Colorado would never run dry. It’s no secret that Colorado is a hub for electronic music. And its most iconic venue, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, is its biggest purveyor. Celebrated for its natural acoustics, which are made possible by two giant monoliths flanking the amphitheater, the open air venue is one of those ineffable places that consistently manufactures “you had to be there” moments. Ergo, only those who have attended an electronic dance music show at Red Rocks can attest how special it is. Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. Creative Studio Creates Galactic Visual Representation of Electronic Music History

A U.K. creative studio has designed a unique vision of the etymology of modern electronic music. The Manchester-based studio, Dorothy, published “The Electronic System and The Alternative System,” two art prints that reimagine landmarks of our universe as prominent figures in the history of electronic and alternative music respectively.  The electronic music-focused print features influential artists such as Daft Punk and the founder of ambient music, Brian Eno. The structure of the art not only highlights the genre’s most impactful contributors, but also draws attention to the influences that likely inspired each artist. Naturally, legendary German electronic outfit Kraftwerk are positioned firmly at the center of the universe, the sun. After forming in 1969, K...

This Random Pennsylvania Warehouse Preserves Electronic Gear Used by Kraftwerk, Jimi Hendrix, More

Located about an hour north of Philadelphia, Harleysville, Pennsylvania is not exactly an EDM destination town. However, a warehouse in the town of 9,500 is reportedly the resting place of a treasure trove of rare electronic music artifacts used by legendary artists from the 1930s through the late 80s. The nearly 3,000-piece collection was started 20 years ago by Vince Pupillo, a longtime fan and player of electronic music. Over time, he became known as “the guy who would buy instruments that otherwise might be thrown away,” according to a report by WHYY.  “I did whatever I had to do to get those instruments under one roof and preserved,” Pupillo said. “A lot of musicians and folks in the music industry, they want to preserve their legacy, and they see what we’re doi...
