The Killers played a concert in Manchester, UK on Saturday night, but paused the show when an elderly fan started crowdsurfing. Via NME, frontman Brandon Flowers noticed the man being carried over the barrier at the venue Emirates Old Trafford during the band’s set and wanted to make sure he was OK. Despite appearing to be bleeding from the head, the man, named Billy, was all smiles as Flowers ran down to throw his arms around him and offer a hug. “Billy was trying to crowdsurf, he looks like he’s about 68 or 69 years old,” the singer told the crowd once he was back on stage. “I said, ‘Billy, what are you doin’?’ And you know what he said? He said, ‘I’m enjoyin’ meself.’” Advertisement Related Video Check out fan-captured footage of Billy living his best life below. The Killers’ curr...
Over 1,000 musicians from 25 countries convened at Stade de France in Paris this past weekend for the latest staging of the Rockin’1000 concert. Initially launched as an elaborate plan to lure Foo Fighters to the small town of Cesena, Italy, Rockin’1000 has since evolved into a live celebration of rock music, in which hundreds of singers, guitarists, bassists, and drummers congregate in one single setting and rock the fuck out together. Due to the pandemic, Saturday marked the first staging of Rockin’1000 in nearly three years. With a crowd of 50,000 people looking on, the collective performed a 21-song set that included covers of The Who, Rage Against the Machine, Pink Floyd, The White Stripes, and Guns N’ Roses. Notably, Rockin’1000 also paid tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor H...
With drummer Matt Cameron still sidelined by COVID, Pearl Jam tapped an 18-year-old high school senior to fill in behind the kit. Kai Neukermans backed Pearl Jam for their performance of “Mind Your Manners,” from 2013’s Lightning Bolt, during the band’s concert at Oakland Arena on Saturday (May 14th). As Neukermans replayed to the San Fransisco Chronicle, he initially offered his services to Pearl Jam by texting Eddie Vedder’s daughter, Olivia. (The two had met previously at her father’s Ohana Fest). Neukermans, who drums in a band called Alive, was then asked to record video of himself drumming along to a Pearl Jam song, so he skipped school — including a statistics test — and headed to a nearby practice space. The next day, Neukermans found himself taking the stage to a crowd of nea...
With no power comes no responsibility — but it does come with a reboot. Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn has revealed that he has eyes on a “big reboot” of the cult favorite R-rated comic book movie franchise Kick-Ass. Speaking at a virtual press junket for his upcoming The King’s Man, Vaughn was asked about another of comic book creator Mark Millar’s other successful film adaptations: Kick-Ass. The black comedy came out in 2010, just at the genesis of the superhero movie craze. Starring Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Nicolas Cage, and Chloë Grace Moretz in her breakout role, the film brought a level of ultra-violence and foul language to crime fighting that received as much outrage as it did fan appreciation. A sequel followed in 2013, and Vaughn is now looking to restart the blood...
Dolly Parton has gotten a dose of her own medicine. On Tuesday, the beloved country singer received the first dose of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine — which she herself helped fund. Back in April, Parton contributed $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s research efforts for a vaccine. Vanderbilt’s research subsequently played a key role in developing Moderna’s vaccine. “My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards research of the coronavirus for a cure,” Parton said at the time of her donation. Fast forward 11 months, and Parton is reaping the rewards of her sizable charitable donation. That said, even though she was eligible due to her age, Parton...
John Peel’s BBC 1 radio show was iconic at the time it aired. In hindsight, it’s only grown all the more legendary. The legendary broadcaster recorded over 4,000 sessions with over 2,000 artists, which is, objectively speaking, a lot. To help make sorting through the Peel Sessions archive easier, angel-in-disguise and blogger Dave Strickson has uploaded and alphabetized hundreds of available recordings from the show to stream online (via BrooklynVegan). Most of the original studio sessions from Peel’s radio show were released as Peel Session EPs by his label, Strange Fruit Records, but many of those are unavailable to stream online. Thankfully, listeners occasionally upload those almost-lost-to-time recordings to YouTube. That’s where Strickson comes in. To help make the process of di...
