Bacon had to improvise a bit in the latest installment of his ongoing "Goat Songs" series. Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, and a Toy Goat Cover Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers”: Watch Abby Jones
The Pitch: Did you know that in Britain, there’s a long and proud tradition of ongoing series putting out special episodes for the holidays? More often than not, they’re even broadcast on Christmas Day, when it seems that entire nation turns into couch potatoes. In America, though, our more couch potato-y holiday happens to be Thanksgiving, and our biggest ongoing series happens to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thus, this week’s release of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special feels pretty apt. Clocking in at 42 minutes (including post-credits scene), James Gunn’s breezy holiday confection offers a little bit of set-up as to where the titular Guardians, including Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Drax (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillen), Rocket (Bradley Coop...
The Pitch: Conversion therapy is the pseudo-scientific process of trying to change a person’s sexuality or gender identity through manipulation, abuse and torture. Generally operated by religious groups who claim to be doing their victims a favour, this practice is generally carried out in isolated retreats on groups of young people. The new horror film They/Them attempts to frame this specific real-world evil through a likely more familiar horror movie iconography. After all, the idyllic American summer camp has been a home for terror for decades, in the form of brutal murders and/or adolescent awkwardness. A nice trip to the woods offers young people a place of freedom, disconnected from who you’ve been before — while the offer to serial killers is simply a place, disconnected. Most famo...
The full trailer for They/Them has been released, and it’ll leave viewers grateful that summer camp weather will soon be coming to an end. The conversion camp-meets-slasher flick thriller will premiere on August 5th on Peacock. The film follows a group of queer and trans campers attending a LGBTQIA+ conversion camp run by Kevin Bacon’s Owen Whistler, who uses a number of horrific methods to “help them find a new sense of freedom.” Something is lurking at Whistler Camp that’s even more sinister though, with the trailer revealing a terrifying masked slasher. We’ll have to wait and see who exactly is behind the mask, but it’s not very reassuring that Bacon can hardly keep a straight face as he delivers the trailer’s last line: “Just enjoy the sunshine and work on your tan.” Watch th...

This ain’t your mother’s conversion therapy: Today, Peacock has unveiled the official teaser for They/Them, the upcoming slasher flick starring Kevin Bacon as the director of a mysterious sleep-away camp that resorts to some drastic measures in an effort to turn its attendees straight. Premiering August 5th, the film marks the feature-length directorial debut of John Logan, whose screenwriting credits include Skyfall and Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator. The teaser for They/Them (get it? “They slash them”?) opens on a wide shot of Whistler Camp’s latest fleet of LGBTQ+ campers. This year’s crew includes Jordan (Theo Germaine), whose gender identity conflicts with their religious upbringing; Alexandra (Quei Tann), a young transgender woman on the brink of being kicked out of her hom...
Kevin Bacon is officially joining the upcoming remake of The Toxic Avenger. Not to be confused with those other Avengers, the film is Legendary Entertainment’s reboot of the 1984 Z-movie superhero comedy by Troma Entertainment. Bacon will be portraying a villain opposite Peter Dinklage, who’s slated to star as the film’s title character. Thus far, Jacob Tremblay and Taylour Paige are also signed on to the reboot. The original Toxic Avenger movie told the story of Melvin Ferd, an ordinary janitor who becomes a mutant after being pushed into a giant vat of toxic waste. Upon this unfortunate transformation, he becomes an unlikely defender of his family, friends and the community of Tromaville against gangs, drug dealers and a criminal overlord named Cigar Face, subverting virtually every...
Kevin Bacon has baby goats, and apparently the kids are big Radiohead fans. In a video posted to his Instagram, the 62-year-old actor busted out an acoustic cover of “Creep” while an adorable little goat chewed on his shirt. “The goats wanted me to play this, I don’t really think it’s appropriate,” the Footloose star said at the beginning of the clip. Still, “the goats were insisting,” so Bacon went ahead and played the first verse and hook until one of the babies got too curious about what was in his pocket and he had to stop. Thom Yorke probably can’t relate. Watch the impromptu barnyard jam session below. Maybe next time Bacon can serenade some pigs? As it turns out, this isn’t the first video that Bacon has posted with the hashtag “#GoatSongs”. Back in November he covered Fra...
