SPIN launched in the peak MTV era, when an innovative — or even just salacious — music video could make or break an artist. Thirty five years later, YouTube is an obligatory part of any promotional push, but no one’s counting on a mind-blowing clip to sell a record. (The views do often matter — just not always the creativity.) A sizable chunk of the best videos came out during the ‘90s alternative bloom, when directors like Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Hype Williams experimented with the style and substance of this malleable medium. But the format hasn’t died with MTV: artists like Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar and Miley Cyrus all made this list for a reason — and it wasn’t to meet a decade quota. Here are the top 35 from the last 35. Ready or not, here we go again. – Ryan Reed 3...

The news comes after a curious Twitter user quizzed Top Dog Entertainment’s president Terrence “Punch” Henderson on the status of Lamar’s highly anticipated drop. “When is Kendrick dropping,” the user asked. Punch replied, “Pretty soon.” Another user followed-up, “As in…this year soon?” “As in soon soon,” he confirmed. Unfortunately, “soon soon” isn’t an actual date on anyone’s calendar, but the response suggests it may hit streaming platforms by the end of this year. Thundercat, a phenomenal bassist who appeared on To Pimp A Butterfly and DAMN, hinted at working on the new project in March. Kung-fu Kenny knows his c...

Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz Rumors claiming that Kendrick Lamar took his rap skills and left TDE have been circulating all over Hip-Hop timelines. The mysterious rapper decided it was time to respond to those claims. Tuesday (Oct.6), TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith shared a video on Instagram to share a PSA from the label’s crown jewel. In typical K-Dot fashion, he remains enigmatic, using his daughter’s Blue’s Clues stuffed animal to do the talking for him while SpongeBob SquarePants plays in the background. While roasting Top’s head, Kendrick shut down the silly rumors stating: “Top, you got to stop them from smutting my name, man. They been smutting my name all year, man. You ain’t said nothing. Enough is enough. Got them saying I done shook the label and all that.” “They...
