Our 21 Favorite Concerts of 2021

Ah, 2021 — the year live music (mostly) roared back. After 18 months of livestream drudgery, it felt like unicorns dancing on a rainbow every time someone so much as plugged in a guitar. It was a year of “post-vax concert stories,” where every show was a hard-won reunion, a triumphant homecoming, and a victory all at once. Strangest of all, it was the year when we found ourselves getting misty just being able to look out at a crowd, marveling at the gift of singing shoulder-to-shoulder with someone other than our cats. Okay, so we’re still a little sentimental. The point is, in a year when every show was a grand slam of catharsis and joy, it was slightly painful to narrow this list down. But after not getting to do one at all in 2020, we are ecstatic and proud to give you some of the highe...

Source: Ronald Siemoneit / Getty Film and Hip-Hop have a unique relationship being that you can always find a reference to a particular movie in a rap song. One movie in particular that always gets a nod from your favorite rapper is The Matrix. There is no denying how much of a stranglehold The Matrix has on pop culture. It’s made evident due to the film’s many references in other movies, television shows, cartoons, and music, especially in Hip-Hop. Since the movie’s 1999 release, The Matrix, plus its mind-blowing plot, has found its way into the songs of many rappers over the years. With Lana Wachowski’s highly-anticipated 4th film in the franchise, The Matrix: Resurrections, right around the corner, you can bet there will be even more Matrix-related bars popping up in new songs. Until we...

Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dogg to Perform at This Year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

Blige and Long Beach’s own Snoop Dogg. This will be Dr. Dre’s first live performance since headlining Coachella with Snoop Dogg in 2012 (the one with 2Pac’s hologram). “The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career,” Dr. Dre said in a statement. “I’m grateful to Jay-Z, Roc Nation, the NFL, and Pepsi as well as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige an...

Macklemore’s White Guilt When He Won Grammy Over Kendrick Lamar Led To Drug Abuse

Source: Johnny Louis/WENN.com / WENN History has shown us that The Grammys doesn’t reflect nor truly represent our culture. One of their biggest gaffes apparently caused one performer to turn to illegal substances. As spotted on AllHipHop.com Macklemore was a recent guest on Talib Kweli’s People’s Party show. The two discussed his meteoric rise in 2012 with the release of The Heist with Ryan Lewis. The album would go on to put his name on the map via the crossover single “Thrift Shop”. Naturally, his Grammy Award win for Best Rap Album over Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City in 2014 came up during the conversation. To hear the Seattle native tell it, the win was a bigger curse than it was a gift. “It wasn’t just the Grammys that we won. We won every f***ing thing,”...
