The duo has once again concocted an intoxicating house formula and bottled it for the masses. Perhaps no EDM artist has remained busier over the course of the global lockdown than Grammy Award-nominated dance music vet Kaskade, who has released a whirring bevy of new music in recent weeks. His latest comes in the form of a joint effort with frequent collaborator Mr. Tape, who helps Kaskade drop a house anthem oozing with the spirit and empathic oomph of a club heater. “Hand Hip” is house bop that moonlights as a phlegmatic middle finger to COVID-19, urging listeners to dance instead of wallow. “No shoes, no shirt, no problem / just shake that naked bottom,” Mr. Tape exclaims as he incites a deep house fracas. You can feel the sass as the refrain chugs along, am...
Following the cosmic implosion of Kaos, Kaskade has been mired in a lawsuit to receive the remainder of his contract. Kaos opened its doors back in April 2019, introducing a grandiloquent nightclub concept to an increasingly stale Las Vegas nightlife district. Organizers went on to announce a staggering list of residencies that seemed too good to be true, signing on Skrillex, Marshmello, Eric Prydz, deadmau5, and Armin van Buuren, among other artists of EDM’s corps d’elite. They also confirmed Cardi B, Travis Scott, and Latin superstars J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Ozuna. However, just as ostentatiously as it opened, Kaos closed in public fashion a mere seven months later in November. Following the news of the club’s cosmic implosion, one of its high-p...
The wholesome content we all needed. There’s nothing more wholesome than seeing an artist, especially of Kaskade‘s caliber, interact with fans on a personal level. The esteemed DJ and producer hosted a Zoom meeting with “a few hundred of [his] homies,” discussing his recent album Arkade Destinations Living Room. The album is a new concept for Kaskade, into the world of lo-fi beats. Prior to dropping the full 17-track album, he debuted its lead singles, “Parasite” featuring Lucid Luv and “When You’re Dreaming” featuring Finnstagram. The impressive collection of collaborations features a beautiful mix of muted synths, dreamy piano chords, jazz-inspired horns, and crisp percussion patterns. While it’s a side-step from most of wh...

COVID-19 is like a disposable camera—it has no place in modern society, but it conjures nostalgic memories of old. iPhones are to disposable cameras what COVID-19 is to live music. The only difference, however, is that live music will eventually return. Until that happens, though, we can only look at the past through rose colored glasses and hope the hues don’t fade. To that end, a number of electronic music artists and labels have taken to social media in recent weeks to share old videos of intoxicating concert moments that are crystallized in time as mementos of a once-vibrant EDM zeitgest. However, these little vignettes should be emblematic not of a culture lost, but a culture with a stormproof foundation ready to be reborn. Here are 10 glorious pre-pandemic EDM concert moments f...
2020 has thrown us a lot of curveballs, the latest of which is Kaskade entering the lof-fi world with his new track “When You’re Dreaming” featuring Finnstagram. The journey began last week when he released “Parasite,” the lead single off his forthcoming Destinations: Living Room project. Very few producers can traverse the popular stylings of any given era with such grace as Kaskade, and he’s here to show us how it’s done right. Never one to be conformed to a genre box, Kaskade enlists the help of Finnstagram to deliver a whimsical soundscape of muted synths, smooth electric guitar riffs, and beautifully syncopated percussion patterns that just hit differently than any of his other works. It feels as if we are receiving an old radio broa...
Ahead of the release of his forthcoming Destinations: Living Room project, Kaskade has unveiled its lead single, a spellbinding downtempo tune featuring Lucid Luv. True to its title, the single is a bona fide earworm. Eschewing his recent penchant for deep and tech house, Kaskade opted for a 78 BPM backbone, crafting a hypnotic ballad reminiscent of his “Redux” sound. It is newcomer Lucid Luv, however, who helps to launch “Parasite” into the stratosphere with a mesmerizing vocal effort. His languid, vocoded vocals flutter effortlessly over Kaskade’s typically forward-thinking production, which lend to a sultry feel that serenades us through the nuanced arrangement. As of the time of writing, Kaskade has not divulged a release date for Destinations: Living...
After COVID-19 stomped on the sandcastles of the entire live music industry, the nation’s clubs, bars, arenas, and concert halls saw their businesses decimated and left vulnerable in its wake. Many of those venues are finding themselves rudderless, desperately picking up the pieces as their local governments navigate the painful process of reopening. In order to drum up business during these unprecedented and uncertain times, Chicago venue Whiskey Business is thinking outside the box. In collaboration with renowned laser artist Will Kent and his company Coherent Designs, the Wicker Park bar has installed a rig on its rooftop to host dazzling laser light shows as Illinois powers through its fourth phase of reopening. Kent, who has designed mind-bending light s...
Kaskade has had an excellent year so far, releasing his highly-anticipated Redux 004 as well as a handful of dancefloor-ready singles for fans to enjoy during their long stays at home. He’s now enlisted the help of Brazilian duo Chemical Surf for his latest offering, “POW POW POW.” “POW POW POW” drums up more energy than both Kaskade and Chemical Surf’s previous releases from this year by enchanting listeners with powerful horns, a bubbly bassline, and an addictive pre-drop vocal. The track is perfectly balanced, as Kaskade’s signature melodic touch and upbeat production add an extra layer of depth atop Chemical Surf’s crisp percussive moments. Without a doubt, this addition to Kaskade’s Arkade imprint is a welcome o...
In a historic performance, Kaskade has netted a new achievement as the first producer to perform at the Grand Canyon Skywalk. In the first-ever effort, Kaskade brought his music to the wonder of the world, and performed against a breathtaking natural backdrop unlike any other. The Skywalk is a horseshoe-like platform that extends seventy feet over the edge of the Grand Canyon. The tourist attraction is not for the faint of heart, however, as it has a see-through glass floor and towers an astounding 4,000 feet above the Grand Canyon floor. The great heights did not seem to bother Kaskade in the slightest. As day turned to night, he danced on the glass floor the whole way through. The sunset performance included timeless Kaskade originals such as “I Remember” and ̶...
