Kano consumer council confiscates products worth N100 million

The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KSCPC) says it has confiscated expired and counterfeit drugs and other products worth N100 million in the state. This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Kano by Mr Musbahu Yakasai, the Public Relations Officer of the council. Yakasai quoted the acting Managing Director of the council, Alhaji Baffa Dan-Agundi, as saying that the products were confiscated following raids on some markets within Nano metropolis. The council’s boss said that officials organised raids on the Sabon Gari market and other markets within Kano metropolis between April 2 and April 5. “The confiscated products include drugs, lemon flavor and other consumables,” he said. Firms get N1 million fine for breaking sanitation law in Kano

The Kano State Environmental Mobile Court on Saturday ordered two factories to pay N1 million fine for violation of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state. Newsmen report that the affected factories are GP Tank and JP Company. Chief Magistrate, Auwal Yusuf-Suleiman, gave the order during an inspection exercise at the Sharada Industrial Area in Kano metropolis. Yusuf-Suleiman said the factories were found guilty of operating within the stipulated hours of the sanitation exercise contrary to Sections 61 and 104 of the National Environmental Laws. He, therefore, ordered each of the factories to pay N500,000 fine. Kano restates commitment to sanitation, hygiene

The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to the improvement of sanitation and hygiene for sustainable development in the state. Dr Kabiru Getso, the state’s Commissioner for Environment, stated this while inspecting the monthly sanitation on Saturday in Kano. Getso said that the state government had introduced the monthly exercise to mobilise residents’ participation in waste and drain clearance in their communities. Kano distributes 500 gas cylinders, improved stoves

Kano State Government says it has distributed 500 improved stoves and Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) cylinders to encourage development of alternative sources of energy. Abdulhamid Bala, Director, Ecology and Forestry in the state’s Ministry of Environment, disclosed this in an interview to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Kano. Bala disclosed that the items were distributed to deserving households to discourage use of fuel wood and control desert encroachment. He said that the items were distributed as part of activities to mark the 2020 World Desertification Day, adding that the state government would establish a five hectre woodlots in selected areas in the state. One killed in Kano petrol tanker fire

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed one person killed in a fire incident involving a petrol tanker at Kofar Ruwa area of Kano metropolis. The spokesman of the Service, Saidu Mohammed, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday in Kano.
