Jon Stewart Rips GOP for Blocking Veterans’ Health Bill: “Fuck the Republican Caucus”

Jon Stewart has slammed Senate Republicans after they blocked a bi-partisan bill expanding healthcare to military veterans exposed to toxic burn pits called the PACT Act. The former Daily Show host first ripped into the GOP senators on Wednesday, July 27th with a series of tweets calling out Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA), who urged colleagues to vote against the bill because of its allocation of discretionary funds. “Congratulations Senator Toomey. You successfully used the Byzantine Senate rules to keep sick veterans suffering!!!” Stewart wrote. “6 trillion for war- No guidelines or oversight…but for Veterans Healthcare?? Let’s play budget gimmick games. We live in the upside down.” Advertisement Related Video Later on, he added, “Fuck the [Republican] caucus and their empty promise to our veter...

Jon Stewart to Receive 2022 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor

“The secret source of Humor itself is not joy but sorrow,” Mark Twain wrote in 1897. He might have been talking about Jon Stewart, the former Daily Show host who is once again mining life’s agonies for laughs with his Apple TV+ program The Problem with Jon Stewart. In honor of his accomplishments, Stewart will be awarded the 2022 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on April 24th. Via Rolling Stone, Stewart said in a statement, “I am truly honored to receive this award. I have long admired and been influenced by the work of Mark Twain, or, as he was known by his given name, Samuel Leibowitz.” (It was actually Samuel Langhorne Clemens.) “For more than three decades, Jon Stewart has brightened our lives and ch...

Jon Stewart’s Irresistible Is A Snarky, Silly Plea for Less of the Same: Review

The Pitch: In Jon Stewart’s Irresistible, the year 2016 and the U.S. presidential election very much happened. The Democratic National Committee is left licking its wounds in the wake of what was to be a slam-dunk win for Hillary Clinton. All the strategy, all the super PAC money, all the campaigning, photo ops, polls, and beyond still couldn’t put a seasoned veteran in the White House. Gary Zimmer (Steve Carrell), a leading DNC strategist, is burrowed under his bedsheets, dodging calls from MSNBC, CNN, national networks, and the rest of the circus. He was too smart, too punchy, too confident, too well-funded, and too connected for this to happen. Fast forward to the present. Zimmer discovers a viral video of a town meeting interrupted by a Marine colonel, Jack Hastings (Chris Cooper), pro...

Jon Stewart Discusses Police Brutality and FOX News in New Interview

With all that’s going on in the world, there’s no better time for the return of Jon Stewart. The former Daily Show host is back making the media rounds for his new movie, Irresistible, coming to PVOD on June 26th. Given the political nature of the film and the socio-political landscape it’s being released into, it’s no surprise Stewart has a lot to say about the current state of things. In a new interview with The New York Times, he touched on everything from Trump to police brutality to FOX News, all with his usual intelligence and nuance. Some might wish Stewart would return to the televised political comedy and commentary scene, but even if he were to return (he’s certainly not eager to) it wouldn’t be like The Daily Show. He praised the show’s current host, Trevor Noah, ...

Jon Stewart’s Movie Irresistible Getting Digital Release This Summer

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a complete reshuffling of movie releases, what with theaters across the country shuttered. If there’s a bright side in all this, it’s that certain films are getting delivered directly to consumers much earlier than planned via paid video on-demand. The latest feature to receive the streaming push is Irresistible, the political comedy written and directed by the great Jon Stewart. Originally scheduled to debut in theaters on May 29th, Focus Features has announced that the film will now see PVOD release on June 26th. Priced at the standard $19.99 for a 48-hour rental period, Irresistible will be available on most major on-demand platforms, including Amazon, Apple, Comcast, DirecTV, Fandango, Google/YouTube, Charter/Spectrum, Verizon, Microsoft, Dish, Vud...
