Not to mention the many, many other projects he’s guest-starred in over the last few years, a list that includes What We Do In the Shadows, Our Flag Means Death, Bob’s Burgers, Dickinson, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. “I’ve been so lucky to be able to be on so many of the shows that I liked,” Kroll tells Consequence. “And it’s something that I’ve tried to work on, to tell those people that I like their show and that if they ever wanted to have me on i...

Puss and Boots is down to his ninth and final life in the new trailer for DreamWorks’ The Last Wish. This is the long-gestating sequel to 2011’s Puss in Boots, which itself was a spinoff of 2004’s Shrek 2. Antonio Banderas returns as the titular fearless feline, who begins the trailer by defeating a giant, but who lingers in his victory speech a little too long and finds himself crushed to death. That’s nothing new to Puss in Boots, who, as he soon recounts, has died a number of times. There was the bull-fighting incident, the time he didn’t land on his feet, the mix-up with seafood, and the whoopsie in a cannon. He’s a bit slow to count it up — “I’m not really a math guy,” he says — but to his horror, he soon realizes he has already perished eight times. “What do ...
This weekend’s John Mulaney-hosted episode of Saturday Night Live felt more affected than usual by outside circumstances—and not, thankfully, in the sense that it featured topical yuks in a political cold-open sketch. On the contrary, the show opened on a surprisingly somber note with a performance from the Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York, singing the Ukraine national anthem. While sometimes SNL’s dips into sincerity can feel maudlin, this time it was a blessed relief that the show didn’t feel the need to drag out any “doddering Biden” or “crazy Putin” gags. If anyone was counting on Mulaney to lighten the mood, well, he did, but on his own terms, performing a stand-up monologue where he discussed his recent off-camera struggles with addiction. Mulaney’s showcase monologue displaced the...

John Mulaney is set to join Saturday Night Live’s Five-Timers Club as he returns to host on February 26th. LCD Soundsystem will serve as the episode’s musical guest, marking the band’s first visit to Studio 8H since 2017. Mulaney, who worked on SNL as a writer between 2008 and 2014, first hosted an episode of the show in 2018. He’s since hosted in each subsequent season, making him one of the fastest hosts to join the illustrious Five-Timers Club (three years and 320 days, to be exact). In fact, only Steve Martin and Buck Henry joined the club in a shorter time frame. Following Mulaney’s most recent turn as host in October 2020, he entered rehab for substance abuse. After completing treatment, he began dating actress Olivia Munn. The couple welcomed their first child in December 2021. Mula...

On Wednesday, November 25th, after business hours closed and Americans looked forward to a long Thanksgiving weekend, Spotify suddenly took down thousands of comedy tracks by Robin Williams, John Mulaney, Mike Birbiglia, Jeff Foxworthy, and more. The move appears to be an aggressive response to new organizations trying to collect literary royalties on behalf of comedians. On November 27th, Birbiglia tweeted, “Random question: Does anyone know why some of the Comedy Central albums got taken off Spotify? 3 of mine are gone, some of Mulaney’s, one of Attell’s, but then some are still there— like Hedberg. Anyone know about any rights things happening behind the scenes with comedy albums?” Earlier this year, Birbiglia signed with Spoken Giants, a rights administration company formed in 2019 to ...
Ahead of its November 5th debut, Netflix has shared the Season 5 trailer for Big Mouth, which will be introducing love bugs and hate worms into the mix. What’s more, there will be a special Christmas-themed episode done with puppets and stop-motion! Narrated by John Mulaney’s Andrew, the typically raunchy clip opens with a reference to a hormone monster threesome before bringing the aforementioned love bugs into the life of protagonist Nick Birch (series co-creator Nick Kroll). Meanwhile, his love interest Jessi (Jessi Klein) is exploring the boundaries of her own sexuality with Ali (Ali Wong). Missy (now voiced by Ayo Edebiri), Jay (Jason Mantzoukass), and Lola (Kroll) are all back as well, with the latter two apparently in a love triangle with Matthew (Andrew Rannells) Their adolescent i...
John Mulaney has revealed that he and his girlfriend, Olivia Munn, are expecting their first child together. The comedian confirmed the news during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday night. “I got into this relationship that’s been really beautiful with someone incredible who has dealt with the non-coked-up Bambi version of me and that’s been very incredible,” Mulaney noted. “She’s kind of held my hand through that hell and we are having a baby together… I’m going to be a dad.” Advertisement Related Video Prior to revealing news of Munn’s pregnancy, Mulaney recapped the events of the last year that led him to this moment. “I went to rehab in September, I got out in October, I moved out of my home from my ex-wife, I host Saturday Night Live on Halloween.
