John Carpenter and his musical collaborators, son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, have unleashed the new song “Rampage.” It’s the latest preview of the Halloween Kills soundtrack, which arrives October 15th alongside the film. “Rampage” is a sinister slow burn, using skittering synth loops and anxious drums to build tension. If the title is accurate, the actual killing may start around the 1:10 mark, when a very loud and heavy chord falls on the track like an axe blow. The menace intensifies around 2:30, and one can imagine the bodies piling up. But the denouement is a relatively calm affair, perhaps suggesting that someone — good or bad — got away. Check out “Rampage” below. Pre-orders for the Halloween Kills soundtrack are ongoing. Last month, Carpe...
As August continues on, many artists have begun to prepare for the return of fall and, more specifically, Halloween festivities. None more so than CHVRCHES, who recently traded remixes with one of horror’s most iconic figures, John Carpenter, the director of legendary films such as Halloween and The Thing. In addition to directing some of the most influential horror movies of all-time, Carpenter is also widely regarded as one of the most impactful composers in the genre and has scored many of his own classics. Together, CHVRCHES and Carpenter created their own spins of one track from each of their respective catalogs. CHVRCHES decided to enter the realm of terrors and give Carpenter’s “Turning The Bones” a retrofuturistic spin. While no vocals are pre...
Synth-pop group, Chvrches, and multi-faceted creator, John Carpenter, teamed to remix each other’s songs. They are available digitally now and will be released on 7” vinyl on December 10. Carpenter took Chvrches’ recent single “Good Girls,” from their forthcoming album, Screen Violence, and gave it a bit more edge. It still has the dream-pop vibe that Chvrches encapsulates in the original but with more buildup to the chorus and the addition of an electric guitar solo towards the end. Stream “Good Girls (John Carpenter Remix)” here. On the other hand, Chvrches have reimagined Carpenter’s “Turning The Bones,” taken from his recently released album, Lost Themes III: Alive After Death. We understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses, how to communicate without words, and the process is easier now...
