After the Cruella star explained to Kimmel that she used to watch the 1987 John Hughes movie on repeat while growing up, Stone proved it by nailing the iconic rant from the film. During the scene, Martin’s Neal Page says variations of “fuck” 18 times while going off on a Marathon Car Rental agent (played by Edie McClurg), who gets the final word by matter-of-factly stating Page is “fucked.” The speech is the sole reason why the otherwise tame Planes, Trai...

Perhaps that’s why a certain brand of pre-reggae Jamaican jamming keeps getting re-interpreted for different eras, and why the two-tone legends Madness are once again skascendent. The UK outfit is gearing up for a 2022 tour, and which they’ll preview with a new livestream, “The Get Up”, on May 14th. This busyness is to expected, because, as they demonstrated on Kimmel last night, during the skanaissance, every house is “Our House”. “Our House” came out on the 1982 album The Rise & Fall, ...
Middle kids are often said to miss out. Not these kids. Middle Kids surprised everyone when, in 2018, they scooped Triple J’s prestigious J Award for Australian album of the year with their debut LP, Lost Friends. The Sydney indie-rock outfit — Hannah Joy, Harry Day and Tim Fitz — saw that first LP crack the Top 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart and earn a nomination for the ARIA Awards, in the best rock album category. On Monday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance, the Flaming Lips revisited their past. The group’s set on the late-night show saw them perform at Oklahoma City’s Blue Note Lounge, which happened to be the first club they ever played at. Wayne Coyne and company — along with special guest Micah Nelson, youngest son of Willie — performed “Will You Return / When You Come Down” from last year’s American Head on Jimmy Kimmel Live. According to the venue’s Facebook page, the Blue Note is categorized as a “dive bar,” and “first opened in 1961, for travelers on Historic Route 66.” Check The Flaming Lips from the Blue Note Lounge below. On Tuesday night, Brittany Howard stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform “Short and Sweet” with her trademark show-stopping skills. However, unlike most musical guests on the show, she had the added pressure of singing in front of the former First Lady Michelle Obama, who was coincidentally a guest on the same episode. Unsurprisingly, Howard is a bonafide show-stopper and she delivered her rendition of the song flawlessly. Watch a replay her performance below. Howard’s late-night performance arrived on the heels of her whirlwind evening at the Grammy Awards this past weekend. She received a total of five nominations, including Best Alternative Music Album for her remarkable album Jaime, and ultimately took home a statue for Best Rock Song thanks to “Stay High”. She also sang the hell out...
Wolfgang Van Halen paid tribute to his late father, the legendary Eddie Van Halen, with a performance of his debut solo single, “Distance”, on Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. The song, which was released in November, appears as a bonus track on Wolfgang’s upcoming debut solo album under the moniker Mammoth WVH. While Wolfgang played all of the instruments on the album, he debuted his backing band for the Kimmel gig. The group includes Ronnie Ficarro (bass/vocals), Jon Jourdan (guitars/vocals), Frank Sidoris (guitars), and Garret Whitlock (drums). During the Kimmel performance, Wolfgang sang and played guitar as home videos of him and Eddie were projected behind him. The footage was similar to the music video he unveiled upon the single’s initial release. Editors’ Picks The late-night T...
Over eight crazy nights, Dave Grohl and his pal Greg Kurstin performed eight covers of Jewish musicians in celebration of Hanukkah. With the Festival of Lights concluding on Thursday, Grohl and Kurstin turned their attention to Christmas and linked up with Kurstin’s The Bird and the Bee bandmate Inara George for a cover of “Little Drummer Boy” on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “The Little Drummer Boy” was composed by the music teacher Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941. Apart from the melody, the song is instantly recognizable for the rat-a-tat-tat rhythm played by the titular little drummer boy. But medium-sized drummer man Dave Grohl had other ideas. He kicked off the song with a flourish before settling into a driving rock and roll groove, riding the cymbals and keeping the bass drum thumping. Kurst...
Taylor Swift joined Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night for her first television interview since releasing her second surprise album of the year, evermore, and sister album to this summer’s folklore. During the interview, Swift debunked a fan rumor that she is planning to release a third surprise album called woodvale. “This takes a bit of explanation,” Swift began. “I tend to be sort of annoyingly secret-agenty about dropping clues and hints and Easter eggs and it’s very annoying but it’s fun for fans and it’s fun for me because they like to pick up on things. And they’ll notice lots of things in music videos or photos or whatever, and then sometimes, I take it too far, and I make a mistake.” As Swift explained, woodvale was merely the working title for folklore and her team “forg...
Also, it’s the third-most streamed song of the year on Apple Music, and the year’s most-Shazamed tune (and the all-time record holder, with 24.6 million Shazams to-date). Tones isn’t resting on her laurels. She’s looking ahead to the 2021 release of her debut full-length album, and her new song “Fly Away” is currently flying on charts in her homeland, where it’s No. 24 on the ARIA Singles Chart and No. 2 on the ARIA Top 20 Australian Singles survey. On Wednesday night (Dec. 2), Tones stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to dish out her uplifting new song, with a full complement of bouncy backing singers. Watch below. Half a year may feel like a lifetime ago, but in that time, Perfume Genius’ Set My Heart on Fire Immediately has remained easily one of the best efforts of 2020. On Thursday night, Mike Hadreas’ project reminded us of this with a performance of “Jason” and “Nothing at All” on Kimmel. Hadreas and his band set up remotely at Joshua Tree for the performance, caked in dirt like they’d actually dragged their gear all the way from Los Angeles. But though the appearance was soiled, the magic hour “Jason” performance was as delicate and gorgeous as you’d expect from Perfume Genius. The band also played “Nothing at All” for an online exclusive, with the more dynamic song allowing Handreas to let himself go in energetic fashion. Watch both clips below. The Eric Andre Show is full of unpredictable moments and painful-looking surprises. According to comedian and host Eric Andre, a lot of those surprises actually hurt. Case and point: the most recent sneak preview of Season 5 captured John Cena hurling Andre into a shelf — a viral stunt that landed him in the hospital. Andre explained the whole saga during his recent stop on Jimmy Kimmel Live. When asked by Kimmel — who once was a former guest on his show — if being thrown by Cena hurt, Andre confirmed the obvious, though he absolved the WWE superstar of any blame. “John Cena did the stunt right, but we prepped for the stunt wrong,” he said. “That metal shelf came over and clocked me in the head and I got concussed.” Without wasting a second, Andre was immediately taken to the hospital to m...
