Jim Carrey Says He Worries About Paul Dano’s Dark Portrayal of The Riddler

Jim Carrey may be mulling retirement, but he seems to be considering a new career as a cultural critic. Case in point: Matt Reeves’ The Batman has widely been praised for its grounded portrayal of Gotham City, but Carrey isn’t too thrilled about the film’s darkness. The actor — who’s had his own turn as Caped Crusader foe The Riddler — said he had mixed emotions about the movie, and especially about Paul Dano’s interpretation of the character. “I’ve not seen it. It’s a very dark version. I have mixed emotions about it,” Carrey told Unilad. “To each his own and all that. I love [Dano] as an actor, he’s a tremendous actor.” Carrey played The Riddler in Joel Schumacher’s 1995 film Batman Forever, which starred Val Kilmer as the superhero. But where Dano’s villain...

Jim Carrey “Probably” Retiring: “I Have Enough. I’ve Done Enough.”

Jim Carrey says he’s “probably” retiring. In an interview with Access Hollywood, the 60-year-old actor and comedian said he expects Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to be his last film. “Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious,” Carrey said. “It depends, if the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.” He added, “I really like my quiet life and I really love putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.” Related Video Carrey has stepped awa...

Jim Carrey Calls Hollywood “Spineless” for Applauding Will Smith at Oscars

While doing the press rounds in support of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Jim Carrey blasted the audience at the 2022 Academy Awards for giving Will Smith a standing ovation minutes after slapping Chris Rock. Carrey said he was “sickened” by the cheers when it was announced Smith won Best Actor for King Richard, and blasted Hollywood as a whole for being “spineless” about the incident. “I was sickened by the standing ovation,” the actor told Gayle King, after being asked to share his opinion on CBS Mornings. “I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we’re not the cool club anymore.” Carrey added that Smith “should’ve been” escorted out of the Oscars after slapping Rock and speculated that the comedian only declined to press char...

Jim Carrey Says He’s Done Playing Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live

Jim Carrey is done playing President-elect Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live. The veteran comedian announced his departure in a tweet posted on Saturday ahead of the show’s Christmas episode. “Though my term was only meant to be 6 weeks,I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President…comedy’s highest call of duty,” Carey wrote. “I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that shit. But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting SNL Bidens!” Carrey’s tenure as Biden was met with mixed reaction from fans and critics alike. In a recent piece for Consequence of Sound questioning whether SNL should consider replacing Carrey, contributor Jesse Hassenger argued that SNL isn’t “a format that works particularly well for Carrey, a stranger and less pred...

Should SNL Replace Jim Carrey as Joe Biden?

What was big, exciting entertainment news just a month or so ago has already become routine tedium: Jim Carrey played presidential candidate Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live. For the third week in a row, the blockbuster comic returned to Studio 8H, where Issa-Rae hosted the festivities. Three sketches into his run, however, and it’s hard to find anyone who appears to be enjoying his antics. (Then again, social media presents a comically skewed demographic of people who more or less despise Saturday Night Live, but feel compelled to provide running commentary anyway. Come to think of it, that’s likely how a lot of SNL writers probably feel about the presidential election.) This week’s endless cold open–under 15 minutes, but, as with last week’s, feeling closer to a full hour–toggled between...

Jim Carrey Makes His Saturday Night Live Debut as Joe Biden: Watch

Saturday Night Live kicked off its 46th season with a cold opening parodying this week’s presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, with Jim Carrey making his debut as the former vice president. Appropriately, the cold opening began by acknowledging that Tuesday’s debate feels like “it was already one  hundred days ago” (in the time since then, Trump has been hospitalized for coronavirus.) Even so, “We thought it was important to see it again since it might be the only presidential debate, and it was pretty fun to watch — as long as you don’t live in America” the narrator explained. Carrey walked on stage wearing Biden’s signature aviator glasses and with fingers guns a-blazin’. He then pulled out a tape measure to check distance between the two candidates’ podiums. ...

Jim Carrey Cast as Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live

Jim Carrey will portray Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in the upcoming 46th season of Saturday Night Live. The casting was revealed by longtime SNL boss Lorne Michaels in an interview with Vulture. Michaels also confirmed that Alec Baldwin and Maya Rudolph will be back as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, respectively. Rudolph is up for an Emmy this year for her portrayal of the now-Democratic vice presidential nominee during the show’s 45th season. Baldwin won one for playing Trump in 2017. According to Michaels, it was actually Carrey who first broached the idea of playing Biden. “There was some interest on his part. And then we responded, obviously, positively,” Michaels said. “But it came down to discussions about what the take was. He and Colin Jost had a bunch...
