Ted Lasso Expected to End with Season 3

Brett Goldstein, who not only writes for Ted Lasso but also stars as the cantankerous footballer Roy Kent, believes that Season 3 of the Emmy-winning comedy series will be its last. “We are writing it like that,” he said in a new interview with The Sunday Times (via Variety).“It was planned as three. Spoiler alert — everyone dies.” His comments echo recent statements by Jason Sudeikis, series creator and Ted Lasso himself. “The story that I know is the one that I wanted to tell, and so that’s the one we’re telling with the help of numerous people in front of and behind the camera, so it’s by no means me typing every key stroke and saying every word,” he told Entertainment Weekly last year. “It’s nowhere near like that. But the story that’s being told – that three-season...

Olivia Wilde Served Custody Papers from Jason Sudeikis at CinemaCon [UPDATED]

Olivia Wilde was served custody papers from her ex-fiancé, Jason Sudeikis, while presenting the trailer for her upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling at CinemaCon, Deadline reports. The actress/director was previewing her upcoming project, which stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, at the gathering of movie theater owners when an unidentified person approached the stage and slid her a manila envelope marked personal and confidential. “This is for me?” Wilde asked, according to Deadline. It was later confirmed by Deadline that the envelope contained legal documents. Update: According to a source close to Sudeikis, the documents were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the couple’s children. Jason Sudeikis Returns to SNL: The Six Best Sketches

Jason Sudeikis returned to Saturday Night Live this week, his first time hosting after spending ten years (or an “actor’s dozen,” as he called it in the monologue) as a writer, then a cast member. Sudeikis arguably has one of the most successful post-SNL careers of the past decade, appearing in multiple hit movies and winning a bunch of awards for his current sitcom Ted Lasso. Having a beloved alumnus return to host can be a deceptively dicey prospect, for a number of reasons. Not needing to work around a particular host’s skill set can create high expectations of an all-killer episode—which can then be dashed against the rocks of callbacks, revivals of old characters, and cameos from the host’s time on the show. The Sudeikis episode had a little bit of all of that, but not enough to tank ...

Jason Sudeikis and Kim Kardashian Among Initial Hosts for SNL Season 47

Saturday Night Live will return for its 47th season starting October 2nd, and the initial four hosts include a beloved SNL alum, an Academy Award winner, a Wedding Crasher, and a… Kardashian. Owen Wilson has been parodied on SNL plenty of times, but the Wedding Crashers and Loki star will finally get his chance to host on October 2nd. He’ll be followed on October 9th by Kim Kardashian West, professional famous person and “goth girl” mom. Then on October 9th, Oscar winner Rami Malek will probably get a chance to show off some of his moves from Bohemian Rhapsody, and October 16th will see the Emmy’s most Outstanding Actor, Jason Sudeikis, returning to the set that made him a star. Sudeikis’ return will be especially sweet. He was a regular cast member from 2005 to 2013, a...

Emmy Awards 2021: Ted Lasso, The Crown & The Queen’s Gambit Among Big Winners

The 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards took place on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Now in its 73rd year, the annual ceremony honored the best in US primetime television. Cedric the Entertainer, one of the Original Kings of Comedy, served as the evening’s host. Unlike last year’s awkward digital presentation, this year’s Emmy Awards took place live and in person. All attendees were required not only to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19, but also a negative COVID test received within two days of the event. Among the night’s big winners was Ted Lasso, which claimed the prize for Outstanding Comedy Series. What’s more, Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis, was honored with the trophy for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series, while Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingh...

How Foo Fighters’ ‘My Hero’ Influenced ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 2

Among his favorite recurring sketches are what the comedian-actor calls “bar songs,” which involve “four guys sitting around listening to a song.” “The first one I did was an idea that I’d had to ‘Danny’s Song’ by Loggins and Messina,” Sudeikis recounted. “Especially when it’s something that went verse into the chorus, verse into the chorus, you would tell a story joke during the verse, and then everybody comes into the chorus and sings the chorus. Then you go, ‘Oh, you know, this song reminds me of this, this song reminds me of that and then you go into that.’ “ The sketch Sudeikis references appeared in a 2007 episode of SNL featuring the comedian along with Will Forte, Bill Hader and guest host Rainn Wilson sharing memories about their lives that quickly went from sentimental to bizarre...

There to help him through it in the second season is Brendan Hunt (who plays Lasso’s soft-spoken assistant coach) as well as co-stars Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster, ...

2021 Golden Globes Winners: The Complete List

The 2021 Golden Globe Awards took place on Sunday night after being delayed for nearly two months due to COVID-19. Now in its 78th year, the Golden Globes honor the best in film and television as determined by the Hollywood Foreign Press. Film was scattered, but as expected. Nomadland and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm predictably ran away with their respective top honors, Minari won the only nomination it (tragically) could, Daniel Kaluuya matched the award seasons buzz with his Best Supporting Actor win for Judas and the Black Messiah, and Soul nabbed both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score. Television belonged to Netflix with essential wins for both The Crown and The Queen’s Gambit. The former ruled over Best Drama, Best Actor for Josh O’Connor, Best Actress for Emma Corrin,...

Jeffrey Wright to Voice Batman in New Podcast Series

HBO Max is developing a Batman spin-off series for TV, and apparently they’re crafting a Batman miniseries for your ears, too. Say hello to Batman: The Audio Adventures, a new podcast by HBO Max starring Jeffrey Wright as the Caped Crusader. Don’t expect it to get too dark, however, because the roll call also includes comedic actors like Seth Meyers, Jason Sudeikis, and dozens more. Written and directed by Dennis McNicholas, Batman: The Audio Adventures is a multi-episode series that’s putting “a comedic take” on the Dark Knight, notes The Hollywood Reporter. It’s separate from DC’s multi-year deal with Spotify — which includes the new Batman Unburied podcast written by David S. Goyer — and as such it will hit WarnerMedia’s streaming service sometime in 2021. To help draw out the laug...
