Good news, ghouls and gals: Blumhouse has a few tricks and treats for this year’s Halloween season. Today, they’ve announced a new partnership with Amazon Studios that will see the release of eight new horror flicks for their Prime Video service. The first four will roll out as double features beginning this October completely free. It’s called Welcome to Blumhouse and the pseudo film festival of sorts aims to present “a distinctive vision and unique perspective on common themes centered around family and love as redemptive or destructive forces.” It all begins Tuesday, October 6th with the premiere of The Lie directed by Veena Sud (The Killing, 7 Seconds) and Black Box directed by Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr. (Born with It). Mere weeks after Stephen King released his new novellas collection, If It Bleeds, prolific producers Ryan Murphy and Jason Blum have already called dibs on “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone”, a short story from the book. According to The Hollywood Reporter, their feature film adaptation is being created in partnership with Netflix. Things are coming together quickly it seems. John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, Saving Mr. Banks) has already been tapped to write and direct. In addition to Murphy and Blum, Carla Hacken will serve as a producer. Plus, Blumhouse Television’s Marci Wiseman and Jeremy Gold have joined as executive producers, too. Today, Universal announced it will be taking over weekends with a series of Twitter watch parties, and Laurie Strode herself will kick things off this Saturday, May 16th with 2018’s Halloween. She won’t be alone when she returns to Haddonfield, Illinois. Director David Gordon Green will co-host alongside the Scream Queen and entertain special guests John Carpenter, Jason Blum, Judy Greer, James Jude Courtney, and Nick Castle.
