Spawn finally appears to be nearing his long-awaited big screen resurrection from Blumhouse Productions. The Jamie Foxx-led film reboot for the Image Comics antihero has shown new signs of life with the announcement by creator Todd McFarlane that the script will now be penned by a trio of new writers: Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Captain America: New World Order), and Matthew Mixon. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, McFarlane acknowledged he might not be the right person to direct the movie given the stakes involved. “If we’ve got an A-list actor, A-list producers, A-list writers, then do you want to shoot for A-list directors, A-list cinematographers?” he said. “The answer is, ‘of course.’ Let’s keep the momentum going.” McFar...
The Pitch: Bud Jablonski (Jamie Foxx) is a San Fernando Valley pool cleaner, but his mundane job is a cover for other, more exciting work. Casing the house next door while skimming a pool, he puts on a ski mask, loads up on weapons, and storms inside. The resident, a frightened old woman, asks “Who are you? What are you doing in my room?” Without answering, Bud blasts away at her with a shotgun. The woman, revealing herself as a vampire and baring her fangs, stands up with a gaping hole in her torso, and begins fighting back. Day Shift is the directorial debut of J.J. Perry, a veteran stuntman who played Scorpion and other masked fighters in 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and choreographed the intense fight scenes in Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire. And the scene that opens the vampire hu...

When Diaz says she’s anxious about announcing her return, Foxx gives a hand-off to Tom Brady, who hops on the line to offer some advice. “I was talking to Jamie and he said you need a few tips on how to unretire,” Brady quips. “I’m relatively successful at unretiring.” For those who don’t pay attention to American football, the future Hall of Fame quarterback retired from the NFL earlier this year for a grand total of 40 days before announcing he was rejoining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At an initial glance, the series — created and starring comedian Jamie Foxx as Brian Dixon — revolved around a widowed father attempting to catch up with his Gen-Z daughter, Sasha (Kyla-Drew). Sure, it relied on a common-but-true trope of young women viewing their aging, out-of-touch parents as humiliating, but it also appeared to highlight impactful and sweet moments between them. Foxx’s relationship with his daughter, Corinne, now 27, served as the inspiration for the show’s scenes. While Corinn...
