Several Indigenous Groups Call For Boycott of James Cameron’s “Blue Trash,” ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: 20th Century Studios / Avatar: The Way of Water James Cameron’s latest visual spectacle, Avatar: The Way of Water, is not sitting well with everyone. Several groups of Native Americans are calling for a boycott of Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to Cameron’s 2009 box office blockbuster Avatar. The protest is a direct result of some resurfaced comments from Cameron. The legendary movie director is a well-known environmentalist and, in 2010, spoke about campaigning against the building of the Belo Monte hydroelectric dam in the Amazon. He also mentioned how after learning from indigenous tribes, he was inspired to write Avatar. “I felt like I was 130 years back in time watching what the Lakota Sioux might have been saying at a point when they were bein...

James Cameron Conducted a Scientific Study to Prove Jack Couldn’t Have Survived in Titanic

For 25 years, Titanic fans have been adamant that there was room on the door for both Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) to survive the ship’s sinking. Director James Cameron, meanwhile, is positive that Jack had to die — so much so that he conducted a study to prove DiCaprio’s character could not survive the Titanic. “We have done a scientific study to put this whole thing to rest and drive a stake through its heart once and for all,” Cameron told the Toronto Sun. “We have since done a thorough forensic analysis with a hypothermia expert who reproduced the raft from the movie and we’re going to do a little special on it that comes out in February.” Cameron continued, “We took two stunt people who were the same body mass of Kate and Leo and we put sensors all over them a...

James Cameron Says Marvel and DC Characters “Act Like They’re in College”

James Cameron has joined the ranks of esteemed directors who have criticized comic book movies. In a New York Times interview, he said Marvel and DC characters don’t weigh the risks like the heroes in his new movie, Avatar: The Way of Water, who are now parents. According to Cameron, they instead “act like they’re in college” regardless of their personal lives. “When I look at these big, spectacular films — I’m looking at you, Marvel and DC — it doesn’t matter how old the characters are, they all act like they’re in college,” Cameron said. “They have relationships, but they really don’t. They never hang up their spurs because of their kids. The things that really ground us and give us power, love, and a purpose? Those characters don’t experience it, and I think that’s not the way to m...

Avatar Is Getting a Theatrical Re-Release in 4K

Buckle up (again), because James Cameron’s 2009 film Avatar is coming back to theaters. The sci-fi phenomenon is returning to the big screen on September 23rd, now in 4K High Dynamic Range (that’s four times the pixel amount of HD). Along with today’s news also comes an updated trailer, which you can watch below. Avatar was the highest-grossing film of all time until Avengers: Endgame dethroned it in 2019. A 2021 reissue in China bumped Avatar back up to its No. 1 spot, however, and we’ll bet this re-release will further cement its status. Upon its original release, Avatar nabbed nine Academy Awards nominations — including for Best Picture and Best Director — and wound up taking home the trophies for Best Cinematography, Production Design, and Visual Effects. It stars Sam Worthin...

The former Governor of California hosted the event, which was billed as “the biggest environmental conference in the world.” Schwarzenegger revealed that Cameron was one of the first activists to educate him about the impending crisis. “You talked to me about the environment way back when I didn’t understand what you were talking about.
