106 Musicians Predict the 2022 Baseball Season

The powers-that-be did their best to prevent this year’s Major League Baseball season from happening, but, alas, we’re back. By we, I mean the annual SPIN baseball preview. As usual, everyone (or almost everyone) is optimistic about their team’s chances in 2022. In 2021, a good chunk of the season was played with minimal fans in attendance, but things should be mostly back to normal this year. As I said last year about the season: Will it be weird? Probably. But aren’t they all? If it wasn’t a weird season with bizarre injuries, what kind of season would it be? Not baseball, Suzyn. Somehow, we almost doubled the number of participants from 62 to 105. Maybe we go for a cool 162 next year? If nothing else, we know that musicians love America’s Pastime (even if many feel that it doesn’t love ...

Jack White Impersonates Beck at Nashville Show

During an intimate acoustic Beck performance at Nashville’s Basement East, Jack White pretended to be the “Where It’s At” singer at the beginning of the show. “Hello ladies and gentlemen, I’m Beck. I’m gonna play you one of my favorite songs from the 1990s that I wrote,” said White as he began the bit. White proceeded to play a part of “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba and “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers. Beck entered the stage after a short period and asked Jack what he was doing. White jokingly quipped he “warmed it up for you” and even tuned Beck’s guitar. Footage of the exchange was posted the Third Man Record’s Instagram page. White has recently been busy with his own musical solo endeavors. Fear of the Dawn will be released on April 8 and Entering Heaven Alive on July 22. So...

Jack White Reveals Mellow New Single, ‘Love Is Selfish’

Jack White has already detailed plans for two new albums in 2022 — Fear of the Dawn on April 8 and Entering Heaven Alive on July 22 — and today brings the release of “Love Is Selfish,” the first single from the latter project. White directed the video for the track. “Love Is Selfish” is a surprisingly mellow change-of-pace for White, especially on the heels of the fuzzed-out “Taking Me Back,” the lead single from Fear of the Dawn. The artist largely accompanies himself on acoustic guitar here; in the video, he’s alternately performing alone on stage at an empty American Legion Hall or sitting at the bar nursing a can of Narragansett beer. Lyrics like “I’ve got a sailboat with her name painted on it / but I don’t know how to sail” underscore the loneliness at the heart of the song. [embedde...
