Marcus Rashford penalty gives England win over Romania in Euro warm-up

Marcus Rashford’s penalty earned England an unconvincing 1-0 win over Romania in their final warm-up friendly ahead of Euro 2020 in Middlesbrough on Sunday. However, victory for Gareth Southgate’s men was again overshadowed by booing from supporters as the players took the knee before kick-off. Southgate’s selection will also be questioned as he named an experimental line-up with five players who are not part of his final squad making an appearance at some point in the game. There is still one place up for grabs in Southgate’s 26-man squad, though, due to an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold. James Ward-Prowse, Ben Godfrey and Ben White were all given the chance to further their case from the start, while Jesse Lingard and Ollie Watkins came off the bench in the second-half. An inexperience...

Euro 2020: Gareth Southgate invites Bukayo Saka, 24 others

Gareth Southgate hit back at the critics after selecting Trent Alexander-Arnold for England’s Euro 2020 squad as the Three Lions boss admitted Harry Maguire is a doubt for the opener against Croatia. Alexander-Arnold had to endure a nervous wait before learning he had made the cut after spending much of the season out of favour with Southgate. The 22-year-old was left out of Southgate’s England squad for their World Cup qualifiers in March. But Alexander-Arnold’s strong end to the season with Liverpool convinced Southgate to restore the right-back to his squad. Alexander-Arnold responded to his selection by tweeting: “Always believe in yourself. Silence the doubters.” Irritated by the inaccurate pre-announcement reports that he would drop Alexander-Arnold, Southgate insisted he never lost ...

Manchester City willing to break £100 million barrier to sign Aston Villa skipper

Manchester City are willing to break the £100m barriers to sign Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish. The Daily Mail says Grealish has long been admired by Pep Guardiola and City’s manager wants the 25-year-old at the hub of what he hopes he will become the second great team of his reign in Manchester. Villa rewarded Grealish last September with a lucrative new contract and the club captain still has four years to run on his deal. His importance to Dean Smith’s side is huge and, as such, they would not entertain selling their local hero for anything less than a new British transfer record. City have not had the most expensive player in the Premier League since they signed Robinho for £32.5m at the start of the Abu Dhabi era in September 2008 but there is recognition that recruiting Grealish w...

Man City want to sign playmaker with 19 goal contributions, aware of release clause

Manchester City are aware of the release clause in the contract of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, Football Insider reports. The England international has had another fine season for the Villans, registering seven and 12 goals from just 23 appearances in all competitions. It was recently claimed that Grealish would welcome a summer move to the Cityzens as he looks to play Champions League football and win the Premier League. It is now reported that the Cityzens are aware of the buy-out clause in the midfielder’s contract ahead of a potential move for his services this summer. Sportslens view: Grealish has played for the Villans in his entire career, but he may be assessing his options when the current campaign comes to a close. The Midlands outfit were in the mix for European footbal...

‘Stimulus for us’: Leeds man makes interesting claim about ‘great’ Villa player

Marcelo Bielsa has described Jack Grealish as a ‘great’ player ahead of Leeds United’s Premier League game against Aston Villa on Saturday. Grealish missed Villa’s defeat against Leicester City in the previous match. He is apparently suffering from a leg injury and is doubtful for this weekend. While it is a huge boost for Leeds if Grealish misses out, Bielsa has suggested that he would want his side to face the playmaker. The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form for Villa this season, and Dean Smith is confident that he can shake off his injury and play against Leeds. However, Bielsa being Bielsa, he feels that his players will perform even better if Grealish plays, hinting that his presence could motivate his players to play out of their skin. “On one side he is a great player, a pla...

Gareth Barry believes Aston Villa star would thrive under Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola

Former Aston Villa star Gareth Barry believes Jack Grealish would thrive under manager Pep Guardiola, should he make the move to Manchester City this summer. The Villans captain has transformed into one of England’s best attacking players and he has excelled this term with six goals and 11 assists from only 19 top-flight games. His form has led to speculation that he could pursue a big-club move to play in Europe, but Barry feels Grealish could still achieve the aim with the west Midlands outfit. He told TalkSPORT: “He knows where he is until the end of the season, he should try and get Aston Villa into a European spot. “He’ll want to be playing European football and if he can be doing that for Aston Villa next season then that would be fantastic for him and the club.” Grealish has been li...

‘Just embarrassing’: Steve Nicol tears Aston Villa man to shreds for what he did v Chelsea

Former Liverpool defender turned popular pundit Steve Nicol has slammed Aston Villa star Jack Grealish for being a diver. The 25-year-old is a fantastic player to watch and he has been in terrific form this season. However, there is constant criticism against him that he dives a lot, although he draws more fouls from opposition defenders as well. Grealish was superb against Chelsea last night as Villa managed a 1-1 draw against the Blues. They remained unbeaten throughout the month of December and have jumped to fifth in the Premier League table. Nicol has suggested that Grealish is a ‘brilliant’ player but he is constantly looking for free-kicks by diving on the ground, and at times it looks embarrassing. “Jack Grealish throws himself on the ground 50 times a game. I was actually looking ...

Have Manchester United missed a trick by not signing Jack Grealish?

Aston Villa produced arguably one of their best away performances under Dean Smith as they won 3-0 against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. While Ollie Watkins grabbed the headlines with a brace, it was Jack Grealish who once again was simply outstanding for the Villans. The Villa captain was superb last season, and he is brimming with confidence following his inclusion in the England national team set up. He has four goals and five assists in seven Premier League appearances this season, and his virtuoso display against the Gunners once again brings back the question why Manchester United didn’t sign him this summer. Grealish was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, and there were contacts made if the reports are to be believed. United made Jadon San...

Marcelo Bielsa says Aston Villa ace Jack Grealish ‘very good player’

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has raved about Aston Villa attacking midfielder Jack Grealish, as quoted in Leeds Live. Grealish, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, is set to start for Villa in their Premier League game against Leeds at Villa Park in the Premier League on Friday evening. Ahead of the match, Bielsa has spoken highly of the England international, and believes that the 25-year-old is going to grow as a player. Leeds Live quotes Bielsa as saying about Grealish: “He’s a very good player. It’s normal for a player once he’s been called up for the national team that he’s going to be confident and grow.” Jack Grealish is on fire Grealish has been superb for Villa so far this season, and has played an important role in Dean Smith’s side winning all fo...

Stan Collymore thinks ‘unique’ Aston Villa player good enough for Liverpool

Stan Collymore has suggested in The Mirror (print edition, page 47, October 13, 2020) that Aston Villa star Jack Grealish is good enough to play for Liverpool or Manchester City. The former Liverpool and Villa striker rates Grealish highly, and believes that the 25-year-old England international attacking midfielder could flourish at the Reds or the Citizens. Collymore wrote in The Mirror (print edition, page 47, October 13, 2020): “Jack is unique in the Premier League in that he draws players towards him and goes past them.” The former Liverpool and Villa striker added: “But if he sustains his current levels, Jack could shine in midfield for Manchester City. Or for Liverpool or Real Madrid or Barcelona. Yes, he is that good. Could Jack Grealish end up at Liverpool or Manchester City? Grea...

Aston Villa interested in signing Liverpool youngster

Aston Villa are interested in signing the Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster this summer. The 20-year-old striker was on loan at Swansea City last season and he managed to score 11 goals for them. Brewster needs to leave the club in order to play regular first-team football and it will be interesting to see if the likes of Villa can agree on a fee with Liverpool in the coming weeks. According to Independent, Sheffield United are keen on signing the young striker as well and they have already spoken to the Reds regarding a move. Liverpool value the young striker at £25 million and they are hoping to insert a buy-back clause in the contract if Brewster is sold this summer. Such a deal would be ideal for Liverpool as it would allow the player to develop with the regular first-team football el...

Jamie O’Hara brutally trolls Agbonlahor for comparing Aston Villa man with prime Iniesta

Jack Grealish confirmed his commitment to Aston Villa by signing a new deal at the club yesterday. The Aston Villa captain was outstanding last season, and he was heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer. However, he has decided to stay put, much to the delight of Villa fans. He has received tons of good messages from fans, former players, pundits, and players from other clubs. However, he would surely shake his head in disbelief after what Villa cult-hero Gabriel Agbonlahor has said on talkSport today. We all know and agree that Grealish is a brilliant player, but Agbonlahor has taken the praise to the next level by comparing him with ‘prime’ Andres Iniesta. It has sparked a massive reaction among the football fans, with Agbonlahor facing a brutal backlash of public ...
