As Ticket Price Controversy Rages, Bruce Springsteen Joins Bleachers at Radio City

Bruce Springsteen has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in the past week, as fans have expressed outrage over Ticketmaster’s “dynamic pricing” algorithm offering outrageously expensive seats to The Boss’ upcoming North American tour. Tonight (July 26), the artist briefly sidestepped the controversy by joining Bleachers at New York’s Radio City Music Hall for a surprise performance of “Chinatown,” their collaboration from the latter group’s 2021 album Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night. “We’ve only ever done it acoustic before, so let’s tear the fuckin’ roof off this place,” Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff shouted as the song kicked in, with Springsteen strumming an acoustic guitar and reprising his vocal parts from the studio version. Antonoff was visibly moved at the song’s ...

Hear Diana Ross/Tame Impala Track From Rise of Gru Soundtrack

As tipped here last week, Diana Ross and Tame Impala lead the star-studded list of contributors to the soundtrack for Minions: The Rise of Gru, and their collaboration, “Turn Up the Sunshine,” is out now, ahead of the album’s July 1 release via Decca. A clear homage to Ross’ ‘70s and ‘80s disco-driven pop hits, the track was co-written by Jack Antonoff, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, singer Sam Dew and Grammy-winning Swedish musician/producer Patrik Berger. It begins with what sound like the voices of young children repeating the titular phrase, with Ross intoning in staccato phrasing during the verses and then soaring into the chorus. Minions: The Rise of Gru features ‘70s covers from such artists as Phoebe Bridgers (The Carpenters’ “Goodbye to Love”), Thundercat (Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Li...

Diana Ross, Tame Impala, St. Vincent Go Back in Time on Minions Soundtrack

The wacky world of the little yellow Minions from the Despicable Me film franchise will be enhanced by the suitably eclectic soundtrack to the movie Minions: The Rise of Gru, which hits theaters July 1. The film is set in the 1970s and tells the origin story of super-villain Gru, so it’s only natural that the Jack Antonoff-produced soundtrack, also due July 1 from Decca, comprises mostly covers of memorable songs from that era by such artists Phoebe Bridgers (The Carpenters’ “Goodbye to Love”), Thundercat (Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like an Eagle”), H.E.R (Sly and the Family Stone’s “Dance to the Music”) and St. Vincent (Lipps Inc.’s “Funkytown”). One of the only newly written tunes is an eye-popping, danceable collaboration that will serve as the lead single: Diana Ross’ “Turn Up the Sunshi...

Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers Make Saturday Night Live Debut

When Roddy Ricch was forced to cancel his Saturday Night Live performance after getting exposed to COVID-19, Bleachers were more than happy to jump in and take his spot as musical guest. It was Jack Antonoff‘s band’s first time playing SNL (it was hosted by West Side Story‘s Ariana DeBose), and they made their debut a memorable one. Bleachers played “How Dare You Want More” and “Chinatown” from their third album Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night, which was released last year. For the first song, Antonoff brought out his father, Rick Antonoff. Bruce Springsteen features on the studio version of “Chinatown,” but did not appear. Taylor Swift Plays Songs From folklore and evermore at Grammys

Coming off the mega-success of her sister albums folklore and evermore, Taylor Swift had a little help from her friends during her latest major Grammy moment. On Sunday night, Swift performed a medley of hits from her Billboard-topping 2020 albums, including “Cardigan,” “Willow” and “August,” as she sang and played along in a woodland surrounding. The elegant performance, featuring Swift sitting on a mossy roof and joined by collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner inside what appears to be a mini-cabin, helped celebrate the milestone success of their two latest projects. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″,&...

In fact, Interview magazine just released the transcription of a phone conversation between Rey and frequent collaborator and friend Jack Antonoff that revealed that the new album isn’t done yet. While Rey admitted that they were “incredibly close” to the finish line, the two discussed how Chemtrails Over the Country Club came to be. “I was thinking about how different it’s been making this one because of how much I’ve been distracted by poetry this year,” Rey said. “Just when you think you know what you’re doing, something else pops up.” Antonoff, who revealed that he was in New York working on Rey’s album, told the singer, “When you would send me them, ...

Lorde has kept quiet for the better part of..well, forever. That changed on Tuesday. In a newsletter sent to fans, Lorde opened with some pleasantries about quarantine life before getting to business. Working again with producer Jack Antonoff, Lorde outlined their process (going between Auckland and Los Angeles) and how losing her dog impacting the process. “It was summer, a time of year which is usually so clarifying and special to me, but I was grieving hard for Pearl, carrying it everywhere with me,” she wrote. “I found a note in my phone from November which said: I eat a grief sandwich / I wear a grief coat / I see a grief film.” But, it’s brought out some good songs apparently. “I started going back to the studio again in December, just for something to do, and to my surprise, good th...
